Had More Power Than Tyson... One Punch Knockouts and the True Story of Tommy Morrison

Спорт

Tommy Morrison will forever remain one of the most tragic figures throughout pugilistic history. In the 90s the blond giant with a chiseled silhouette was the embodiment of a knockout machine. But the prominent heavyweight’s career was cut short in the prime of his potential, suddenly and irrevocably. Today we remember the legendary power and dramatic path of boxing’s "great white hope".

He was on Steroids and knew he had AIDS before turning Pro. Why would you glorify his crimes in the ring and celebrate his memory?? How many lives do u think he took with him between the women he infected and the CTE he likely dished out from the PED's?? Videos like this keep him alive for all the wrong reasons. He should be remembered with guys like Panama Jack - NOT MIKE TYSON!!!

Sad but true. It's the worlds temptations and desire, sin that we give into to fix the hurt rather than embracing it and using it to mold us into better men. There's one that roams the earth like a lion tempting us and looking to devour. He will offer you the world but of what gain is the world if you lose your soul? 1 Peter 5:8, KJV: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Wow, this channel really knows how to capture the essence of boxing legends, and the Tommy Morrison story is no exception. It's a poignant reminder that talent can shine incredibly bright but can also dim too soon. Morrison was a beast in the ring, a knockout machine that had fans on the edge of their seats. But his story also serves as a cautionary tale, a lesson about the fragility of life and how quickly fortunes can change. Thank you for doing justice to the complexity of his legacy. I'm eagerly waiting for your next deep dive into the universe of boxing history. 👊🌟

Truly, the most perceptive comment! For all our actions whilst here on the spinning globe... there are consequences for every reaction... A sad shame for someone that had found fame AND Fortune... to not cap its reality, and calm down in appreciation... BUT, "Boys" will be boys... in empathy and sending condolences... this IS our chosen life... it is honestly a wake-up, in how to make life's best choices. YET, Another talent destroyed by flamboyance and false administered "Self-worth"... there is ALWAYS the retribution of "The balancing Act" that can NEVER be ignored! Sadly, he did! Choices, choices... everywhere, not all roads lead to Paradise! ...or to the Ultimate success, no matter WHAT you do, but this a fine example of what NOT to do!

He played at my table in a disguise when I said hello he asked me to keep it quiet as guys were always challenging him. He was very calm and didn't bet a lot of money but seemed pretty normal. Other fighters I've met were bone crusher smith, vinny pazienza, get this Joe Frazier lived in my town. Humble and Tommy Morrison could never be mentioned in the same breath. Here's a great example of how Social media can change the narrative many years later. Boxing fans in the past had the Boxing knowledge to dismiss the KO's of unranked fighters. Nowadays fans don't know the difference. Tommy was decent but he had a weak chin. He had a good left hook but he was undersized. He even showed some mobility and a ring IQ when he fought an old Foreman.

I didn't see the precision in Tommy that I did in Iron Mike, but that being said it isn't always necessary: Gene Fullmer beat Ray Robinson twice (plus 1 loss add 1 draw), and Sugar Ray way by far the more polished and precise boxer. I felt like Tommy never was the same after the Mercer fight. I think he sufdered actual brain damage. I was shocked he wasn't killed. I maintain to this day that the ref should have stopped it sooner. He was criminally derilect in letting any fighter take that kind of pummelling. To a casual fan ot would have seemed like a good shellacing, but I know a lot of boxing officials who were swearing at the TV by the time Morrison stunbled out of the corner, still taking Mercer's best shots to the head.

Despite his downfalls I would like to say his accomplishments certainly outweighed his regrettable behavior, publicly speaking. Being a person who has suffered a lifetime full of alcoholism and addiction, but also was a star athlete in my earlier years. I always longed for the title, but never could succeed, although I was a safe bet to be contending for it, as I possessed similar character as Tommy in my passion for the game and natural abilities when playing. I digress from what my point was in that it's admirable he chased that dream at the level that he did for the time he did and the success truly that he earned along the way. We all have pasts and things that we are not proud of but none so publicly as some of these star athletes that we are quick to judge. I believe that this athletes demons made him the athlete that he was and made him the legacy that he will always be in my mind. To bounce back every time except the last obviously and be on top or on his way back cuz up so quickly and consistently is amazing. It's truly a testimony to his character and proof of his integrity as a human being in this screwed-up world in which we live. Thanks for the opportunity to share as well as this video submission. God Bless.

This was one of the best retrospective looks at a career I've ever seen. I grew up the 90's and somehow how was living under a rock because I never knew who Tommy was. I recently watched Rocky V for the first time in my life and I was so impressed by his ability and started to wonder if he was actually an actor or a real athlete. And then I found this video that taught me so much about him. I'm so heartbroken that his life ended so tragically and that he isn't here right now to keep passing on his knowledge to future generations. Truly one of the best fighters I've ever seen. Much respect to Tommy "The Duke" Morrison. And thank you to whoever made this video and cut it all together. That's no easy task.

yeah high probably i would say at least so far but a puncher against a puncher who is a little faster or a little faster and a little more range or just a little faster and harder single explosive punch/s , even he have less kondition , is in a knockout boxing match that e.g. after regulation 10 rounds a 3min in advantage btw he have a good physique but he is not so quite strong in his strokes and he is also not quite as strong at his arms and shoulders (at least so far not so much musclemass there) but he is already strong and athletically and have good potencial in terms of movement and also quite enduring from the system her and at least from the physical point of view comperatively good abilitys to box intelligent moreof a mixture of a puncher and a athlete , more of a allrounder then an pure boxer

I remember watching Holyfield vs. Tyson, had a whole group of people drove hours to come see it. Lasted like like 5 minutes and ended in disqualification... Great fights, but not a great time for sportsmanship. Although I guess there was always a darkside to every sport, boxing just really hit a rough patch there. Not many idols to look up to, regardless of their talent. Also kind of sad his nickname was "The Great White Hope", I'm not sure it's touched on here since I've only started it, but there was a lot of racism back then and 100 percent that's what that title was referring to. A lot of racism today too, but it was very common from my experience to see people explicitly rooting for their race to win the fight. Which is just such a stupid, pathetic piece of of human culture. Like it means anything.

He was a really hard puncher, but he was never "the best at his profession". He was not even a top 5 Heavyweight at any point in his career. I loved Tommy Morrison, and was crushed when he lost to that asshole Ray Mercer. But I would never go as far to say he was the best. I do admit I would've loved to see a prime Morrison vs. prime Tyson though. I think a prime Tyson would win early because pre Douglas, Mike had a good chin, and could have likely absorbed Tommy's big punches or would have not been hit with his head movement, bobbing and weaving. I could easily see Mike putting The Duke down with one punch though. Perhaps an uppercut like he put Jose Ribalta down with or a devastating overhand right like he put Larry Holmes down the first time with. The difference is, Ribalta and Holmes, especially Holmes, had a granite chin. Tommy Morrison's chin was always like a fine piece of china.

Good looking guy great boxer glad I stumbled onto this video. Thanks. The images of him at the end of his life are so sad. A lot of people got HIV in the 80's and 90's. We must NEVER forget all the lives lost to that virus. However, I sure would have loved to see him and Iron Mike go 15 rounds.

I'm so glad for channels like these that talk about boxers I didn't even know growing up in the 90's because of star power. I knew Tyson and all the other big names, But these boxers had amazing skills that the media didn't care about. Such talented boxers.
