I’m glad people are noticing that Naoki always liked Kotoko, most of his attitude problems towards her were rooted in jealousy and embarrassment. The thing is we don’t notice at the first watch because we’re seeing it from Kotoko's pov and she’s dense, so we the viewers are dense too.

That's right, i need to watch this drama every year to realize irie's pov to kotoko and it's fun to get something new everytime i rewatch

Too bad the drama didn't show Naoki teaching most of Class F after the students and Kotoko begged him. That would perfectly show how much he cared, low-key, for Kotoko. Him tolerating an entire group of not-so-bright students take a toll on an introvert who cannot stand slow people.

Honestly, in my opinion, when she first confessed he couldn't be bothered with her. Kotoko with her father moving in with his family was when he unconsciously decided that he wanted to get to know her... him reading the letter was when he decided to "give her a chance" ...

My theory is, Naoki likes Kotoko, when Kotoko by accidental flying his exam results paper, and Naoki stepped on it so it wouldn't fly too far. there Naoki said more or less "for the first time seeing such bad grades" and then when Naoki saw Kotoko giving a love letter, Naoki seemed nervous and confused. So he rejected her. But the day after that he would donate. And the day when Kotoko and her father came to Irie's house, Naoki out for a little while because he feel nervous. 😁😁

I would love to see your translations on the full versions of the series ( both S1 and S2 ) because your analysis gave me more in depth understanding of the series more. You see i am a fan of the series. Been rewatching it multiple times. And also leaves my own analysis on his character development over a lot of mischievous kiss videos you see on the internet for people to understand him more as what the writer wanted it too. FUN FACT : KAORU TADA WAS THE SERIES ADVISOR FOR THIS VERSION AND HE WAS THE HUSBAND OF THE OG WRITER WHO WROTE THIS WAY BACK 1996. ACTUALLY AS PEOPLE NOTICED THE STORY WAS INCOMPLETE BECAUSE THE WRITTER DIED IN AN ACCIDENT BEFORE SHE COULD FINISH THE FINAL DRAFT. AND AS A MEMORY OF HER. HER HUSBAND WANTED TO HAVE ANOTHER VERSION OF THE SERIES TOLD IN HIS POV. HE MADE THE CHARACTER MORE FLAWED, AND UNPERFECT AS HE WAS NOT THE PERFECT MAN HIS WIFE THOUGHT HE IS. AFTER SO MANY YEARS HE STILL WANTED FOR HIS NAME TO STAND NEXT TO HERS AND THAT'S ONE OF HIS MAJOR REASONS FOR REBOOTING THE SERIES. UP TO THIS , HE DIDN'T REMARRY ANYONE AND WAS CAREFULLY CENTERED HIS LOVE AND ATTENTION TO KOTOKO'S TESTAMENT OF HER LOVE FOR HIM. AND THAT'S KOTOMI. THEIR ONE AND ONLY DAUGHTER. IT'S SAD THAT AFTER KOTOKOMI TURNED 5 YEARS OLD HER MOM DIED JUST LIKE KOTOKO EXPERIENCED IT HERSELF.

This is the drama that i always rewatch in every year. The 'poop poop poop' bgm everytime they together, is such a earworm 😅😅

Actually, I desagree a little bit. I know that all the versions have something different but are based on the same story. I think that everything started to change for Naoki when he taugh Kotoko. Yes, she desesperated him a lot, but at the same time she was showing him her persistance and determination to win him the bet. I guess that change a little bit the perception that Irie had bout the noisy and annoying Kotoko to a better one. And naturally he started to feel comfortable with her by living together to the point to sleep infront of her. And that comfortable feeling, with the past of the time, make him feel free to joke with her, pay attention and take care of her in its way. And Long short story, he felt for her uncounciously and he realized when he was jealous of Kinchan. So in other Words, theres no exactly point to say when he felt for her bc it was naturally and progressive. But we can say that everything change and those two started to get closer after the teaching lessons.

I don’t know why my most favorite scene was when kotoko and irie fought and kotoko let all her anger out, it’s just satisfying

Watching this made me realise I was introvert and didn't know how much my husband suffered. He onĺy had guts to tell me I am like a stone when we had already three kids 😢😢😢

This is my favorite Japanese drama since I was in middle school! But sadly, the ending in season 2 seems like they fast forward everything. But I admit I really miss this one. it's time to rewatch it again >.< I'm so glad I found your KZread account while scrolling here 💕

I’ve watched this series over and over since it is my absolute favorite story. I don’t really understand the concept or agree that he developed feelings for her when she gave him the letter and confessed. Like he stated in the episode (and I believe in the manga?) he knew he felt something for her when she stated she was going to stop loving him. All this time she’s been pestering him, showing her affection, and doing everything she can to win him over and the moment she told him she was going to give up and forget about him, he did not expect that and it made him frustrated. If you watch a couple of the scenes/previous episodes before their first kiss, he asked her a few times if she was out with Kin Chan and he always kept his eyes on them when they were together. He definitely displayed jealousy since she was giving her attention to Kin Chan during those moments and not him. It was definitely her persistence that won him over but I do believe he was developing feelings for her over time. I mean, come on. She was literally the only girl that got turned down by him so many times and yet continued to chase after him. I feel like there’s so much more to explain but it’s 11:57 at night and I don’t feel like typing the rest out lol.

I agree with a lot of your assessment, yet I can't help thinking that his interest and curiosity with her piqued a little earlier than the love letter. My thought is that Kotoko, Jinko, and Satomi were well known around the entire class for their loud talking and bubbly personalities. Kotoko may have caught his attention just because she is very cute and noticable. That may be one of the reasons he stopped to pick up her test papers when she dropped them. As an introvert who doesn't like to make small talk with unnecessary people, why would he have taken the time to initiate a short conversation with her even if he ended up insulting her? He specifically asked her if she was in class F. I think he knew who she was before she gave him the letter. His interest only grew after he found out that she liked him and moved into his house.

I think I kinda relate about the coffee stuff 😂. My SO said I make him coffee better than him making for himself. ❤ Thank for your analyses.❤

I thought, Naoki little bit interest to Kotoko, because Kotoko was easy and relax when she know her exam result not good. Kotoko mood still good. And when kotoko's house was destroyed by meteor, and irie father asked to all family how if aihara live with them, i thought Naoki easy to say yes, thats why he tasted Kotoko with money.
