This series was naoki' pov. In fact this is the only series where naoki's different self is explained properly

one thing I loved about this version of the story is how they had Kotoko be good at making coffee- most of the other versions had her being bascially useless on her own, I really liked how this version gave her something she was good at that she and Naoki could enjoy- their cups of coffee together- its often the small things like this in relationships that stand out as meaningful

@@huggledemon32 It's like a hot second maybe, it might even just be implied. And in the original japanese version (itazura na kiss, which you can watch on KZread, if you've never seen it, you should. I know the girl who played kotoko is in Mischievous kiss, she plays the nurse who escorts Naoki to Yuki's room, and she's even playing Kotoko. And the guy who plays Naoki is also in season 2, although I will tell you I have no idea where and can't tell it's him, but that's what I read in the comments, and he's playing a doctor, although not Naoki, because that would be too much), I think she's good at making tea not coffee, but again it's a hot second they mention it.

@@super_siri If I remember correctly, in the manga, there's a part where it shows how good Kotoko is at balancing trays because of her experience helping her father at the restaurant and Naoki is kind of impressed with her skill. Also in the Taiwanese version, I remember her making that miniature pastry to give to Zhi Shu for his birthday (I think it was his birthday), and honestly it's hard to make these things in miniature so she has to have at least one little talent for art. And you can see that she is very 'creative'. I hope u understand my English, I'm bad at studies.

It's really interesting that you post these videos analysing Naoki's decisions and why he makes them. I never really thought about it but because the story is told from Kotoko's perspective we, as viewers, also judge Naoki from her perspective. Once you try to look at things through Naoki's eyes, many of his actions make more sense as to why he acts way he does.

On the season 2 of this series you would understand and realize more on why naoki never turned to kotoko's side of the bed that day they slept on one bed before getting married. Because only seeing her at close encounters or seen her laugh or just being plainly and annoyingly noisy could turn his urge on. He has been proven that theory multiple times as the series progresses to their married life. At the first intimacy scene they had on their honeymoon. Naoki expresses his dissatisfaction on the events that passed the days they were in honeymoon because they were interrupted by an annoying honeymoon couple who has a crush on naoki. That's why on the last night of their stay he said i am not OK now. Because they never did that thing ever since they arrived. She's either asleep or drunk the past days at the time. And on ep. 3 he wants to have a baby with her already.

My opinion is, kotoko's virginity has lost when they are honeymoon. And Naoki feel satisfied. And why he always urge on when they are just only two in private.

i'm so in love with this version ever since i found it in 2019. the actings are so on point, especially furukawa being naoki. the script dialogue and subtle attitude make the introvert and rebellion guy of teen/early adult in naoki alive. this video analysis is also on point. definitely agree with the pace that introverts are needed. personally, i love season 1 more because the angst and slow burn is definitely my thing 😌

The episodes will never be the same again after watching this 😭 my mind would turn green immediately 😂

Because of your edits, I'm starting to watch the different versions again. There's this scene when Naoki and Kotoko just finished studying all night for finals. Naoki woke up and went downstairs and saw Kotoko making coffee. I love how the Japanese director shot Honoka Miki framed by the morning light, and the breeze gently blowing the kitchen curtains. And Furukawa Yuki did such a good job of stopping at his tracks for just a second, and his eyes widened, and you can see on his face that he just found her so beautiful. And that even he was surprised with what he felt. He couldn't understand the moment, so when Kotoko said, "Good morning." He was flustered and he didn't know what to say, so he just replied in his cold tone as usual, "we ended staying up all night." So the next time they stayed doing homework until the morning, Naoki refused to let Kotoko make him breakfast, but he reluctantly admitted he wanted her coffee. But you can see on his face that he remembered the moment she looked so beautiful and his heart skipped a beat. Remember, Naoki has eidetic memory--he remembers everything clearly. That was the moment we as the audience can see he's falling in love. He didn't kiss her out of the blue--he has been falling in love with her but didn't have the heart to tell her! Plus if you think about what an assault to the senses it is for a boy to just suddenly live with a girl. They share a bathroom. The Korean version did it so well by portraying something normal and not impossible, but can actually stir the imagination. Oh Ha Ni left her underwear because she took a shower first. I can just imagine Seung Jo's head thinking of the possibilities. The bathroom would smell like her soap and shampoo and perfume. Think of how that can turn someone on. Plus, both in the Taiwanese and Japanese versions, Naoki/Zhi Shu really is the one who moves closer. Always. As someone in a long-term relationship with a tsundere type, he has admitted that boys do think physical stuff. But introverts especially don't really want to initiate.

Yes exactly. I loved your analysis. To add up although introverts like himself hates to initiate anything he tries to initiate more for her. He really did say boys do think sensual occassions and agreed that any man could turn into a hungry animal when neglected. And he wasn't an exception and since everyone ( even himself ) thinks he was smart he said the words " even geniuses can turn into animals".

On the scene kotoko passed out because she was drunk. He tried to wake her up by moving her body a little and by calling for her name multiple times. But to no avail. As he watched his wife soudly asleep he remembers mari's words that night. Mari is kinda of mocking kotoko because even after marrying naoki she still addresses him by his last name irie. That's why he said. Wife , we're back in our room. And then another scene after kotoko was rescued by naoki when she wandered off Okinawa alone because of misunderstanding. By the time they went back their room. He said the words " we had a long way to get here and i am not OK now ". He meant he wasn't ok with the idea of them not having physical relationship throughout their honeymoon. If you noticed on that scene. After he had said those words they already had sex. And then when they we're in the plane you could see from their facial expression that they we're tired because they both fall asleep with their heads on each other

i love this comment! i watched the taiwanese version with joe cheng and ariel lin and fell in love with this story. then when i watched honoka miki/furukawa yuki, i admittedly skipped to the sequel bc i didn't know if i could take the emotional rollercoaster of the first part! but now this is making me want to watch it fully this time. also, other drama apps have some scenes cut out so i'm glad to see the full versions here!

Also, after reading her letter, Naoki touched Kotoko's hair after breakfast the next morning. Instead of just telling her as usual that she has crumbs and let her brush them off herself, Naoki picked the dirt out of Kotoko's hair after he read the letter. It's like even he surprised himself by touching her and doing something quite intimate.

Love these lovely little analysis. Makes me appreciate the series more. Good to know the he was always a normal teenage boy until he’s given free rein (aka a marriage license) to act on his urges. 😂 Also, I forget how tall Yuki is until he’s standing directly next to her. Those kissing scenes makes it even more obvious because of how far down he has to bend. Finally understood why the director has him sitting all the time during scenes with them.

I watched the first live action Itazura na kiss in 1996 when I was a kid and fell in love with kassy kashiwabara. The second version, the Taiwanese one is one of my favorites, but Zhi shu (Naoki Taiwanese version) smiles too much and too expressive. The Korean version is the most popular but i don't know, i couldn't finish watching it. When Mischivious Kiss 2013 aired on TV, it was like taking me back to the 90s. And it became my most favorite version of all

I have watched the Taiwanese version, and I always thought I clicked more with Naoki's character than Kotoko's.. No matter I think I'm dumb like Kotoko but inner personalities I am more like Naoki... so this is why... Because he is an introvert... I known about being an introvert in my 20s.. I watched the Taiwanese version in my high school days.. This is a glad for me because I always think there's something wrong with me and that I'm more boy than a girl... I'm relieved that's not the reason...

When in his life has he ever met anyone who is better than him at something... He really hasn't, all the students at every school he's been to are not as good as him, no one plays tennis as well as him, he could have passed the hardest college entrance exams with his eyes closed and only a little finger to write with, he helped design a video game in MONTHS, instead of the usual years it takes, and it's actually really good. He is a superior human being. The first experience he has with jealousy is when the woman he loves more than his own life starts talking with another guy who is better at him at taking care of someone, and it seems like she also likes him (she doesn't, at least not as anything more than a friend), and his brain breaks a little.

Actually it's a real story. The real life couple didn't get the happy ending they deserved. The author who wrote this actually imagined herself as the female lead. She died because of an illness so her husband wrote the rest of the story so that it can get a happy ending. The ending they couldn't have. Her (the author's) husband was a jpop star. She was his fan. So you know where this idea of male lead (the perfect image) came from. They didn't have any kids so it's just the author's husband's imagination. He wanted to be involved in his late wife's work and have his name beside his late wife one last time. That's why he participated in this. He wanted to say one last time that 'all these times when you were trying hard and giving me all your love, I had already fallen in love with you.'😅

I myself feel they did that on purepose, at first they took those scenes from a far zoom, then by their emotions grow up, the closer zoom those scenes are... now after watching the whole series many times, these hint from away angle like gold to me!!!

My favorite version + series! Loved this analysis and I’ve started rewatching it but I will definitely pay more attention to Naoki.

I realized something about Naoki. Naoki always kissed Kotoko first. I think he really want kiss Kotoko more. Because he always hold to kiss Kotoko at season 1. Even he hold intimacy when Yuki was sick. 8:52 when they're nose met, is best kiss i think. How Naoki felt like he miss "touch" Kotoko. I think evety night he always "do the activity" before sleep, even for short moments.

I highly recommend reading the manga, might be a bit long for sure but I swear it's really worth it. I haven't got any closure though. The ending felt like they just left me hanging, it just ends like that. (RIP author) Ngl this version is the closest compared to the other versions, except anime. I'm just frustrated that there are a lot of good parts that were missed out. You will better see Naoki's POV and that he's more than the tsundere that we know.

remember there is a chapter where he works for Sudou's villa, there is a scene that after Naoki found out that Sudou is the one who expose where he is working to Kotoko (and she ends up bringing the whole house there), and after the two found out that he also reveals that information to the Masumoto sisters, and she gone mad and chaotic bla...bla... When Naoki starting to bring her stuff into the room, she says thank you to him, but he just replies to it with "moron". when watching machitsuki analysis every motive and reason behind Naoki's gestures and manners, I wish that she could give some light and hypothesis about that "moron" reply since I cannot figure it out myself, but it turns out that in this 2013 version (which is the closest, as you say) they also cut that scene out :((( and I still cannot figure out what is the meaning behind that "moron" answer :(( So yeah, it is true that they change some of the very best part of this manga. edit: not to mention that he wakes up face to face with her on that winter day at his apartment, too :))

I was just sad that they cut those little but beautiful details. I really wanted to see the I forgot exactly the Tonan Festival, with the quizzes and Tonan Queen and King and ofc the story of Kotorin. Though, Kotorin was mentioned here, it wasn't elaborated lol.

@@khavytran4496unfortunately they didn't include that villa scene like what was portrayed in the anime version but they highlighted the right words in translation to that " moron " statement you are curious about. It's a scene where kotoko falls asleep in the hospital when yuki was hospitalised. In a dream kotoko and naoki went on the rooftop of the hospital. And naoki says; " HEY KOTOKO YOU ALWAYS SAYS YOU LOVE ME BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT I REALLY FEEL FOR YOU? " in which kotoko responded " WHAT DO YOU I MEAN DO I KNOW? OF COURSE I DO. I KNOW THAT YOU DIDN'T LOVE ME THE SAME WAY I LOVE YOU. " in reply he said " STUPID THAT'S NOT TRUE ". and then kisses her. It was supposed to be just her dream except that naoki really kissed her In secret that time. Yuki even saw him doing it. You could see from his facial expression after that kiss that whatever kotoko's dreaming about isn't exactly just a dream.

Sometime in our 7 year friendship, we discussed that we both get paired up by our relatives numerous times and saying no to offers to meet up with someone because it's unnatural. Like they'll of course check on you how it went, what your opinion is, and that's way too meddlesome. He never had gf until 27. I had mine at 25 but I'm the only one invested so it didn't last long (which I'm now grateful of), then healed 2 years and became happy being single again for more than a year before our friendship took a different turn. This is my most favorite jdorama. I love everything about this drama series, although most of the time, I find Kotoko annoying 😂😂😂 but the chemistry is auperb. One of my favorite love teams. While watching this back then, this made me long for a hug that is full of feelings, touches that feels like burning and hot kisses like how Iriekun do to Kotoko. The intimacy, the passion, the deep love, I want to experience all of them 😅😅😅I kinda envy Kotoko which made me dream that if I were given a chance to act and remade any drama, this one will be it. I want to be Kotoko, Pinoy version 😊😊😊

Rewatching this drama again, I really appreciate the Taiwanese version, "It Started With A Kiss" especially the sequel "They Kiss Again" which is about their marriage. Joe Cheng (as Jiang Zhi Shu/Irie Naoki) brings such depth to the character as you can see how he changes & deals with his new emotions. Ariel Lin (as Yuan Xiang Qin/Kotoko) also is so impressive as she also gives her character more depth, you can see how she's growing & maturing. Mischievous Kiss (1 & 2) will always have a special place in my heart as this is the first version of Izaura Na Kiss, but the Taiwanese version is my favorite as it really shows the growth of BOTH characters. As a Introvert i love this series, the things i want in love or how love should be done in my life. Just like Yesterday i can feel the boy is having a crush on me and i find it cute and he talks alot which is good but i don't really like talking so all i could do is agree with him nodding my head like that. She wants to emphasize the pattern of Naoki's level of intimacy to his wife. As you noticed on the video he never let her do the first move when he wants to make out or be intimate with her in bed. The only time kotoko initiates physical contact was the altar scene.

Let me explain about this "Yobai" scene ( 5:56 ) Yobai (夜這い), which means "night crawling", was an old Japanese custom usually practised by young unmarried men. It was once common throughout Japan and was practised in some rural areas until the beginning of the Meiji era and even into the 20th century. Basically young single men would silently enter houses with young single women. A man would quietly sneak into a woman's room and make his intentions known. If the woman consented, they would sleep together (as we can see in this scene 6:00 ). In the morning, he would leave. The woman's family might have known, but they pretended not to. It was common for young people to find a mate in this way.

This is totally different from Korean version....very few romantic scenes as the main lead is not that romantic...but their love and affection was well shown in little scenes ...here the male lead very intimate nowhere he is

I like this version the most. But I gotta be objective. Their kissing isnt passionate. They have a lot of chemistry except when they kissed. Their lips basically just touch each other's lips. No movement. Their upper and lower lips didnt even open. They didnt enjoy those scenes. It wasnt hot. I cant feel the lust, the urge, the passion from Naoki in his eyes, his a bit of roughness, his a bit of rush, his adrenaline. Their lips just touched, then zonk, nothing at all.

@@ravepirates yes and by the time they filmed it's sequel she was 18 at the time. And he was 29 years old. They had a 10 year gap what would anyone expect right? I also noticed that although their chemistry were off charts they lacked the intimacy you see on normal couples when filming kissing scenes. I've seen playful kiss on 2010 and then it started with a kiss and they kiss again on 2006 and their kissing scenes were really hot specially the Taiwan version. They had almost a 20 min make out scene on the honeymoon episode hahaha. Considering that they never became a couple in real life that is. But all of the lead actresses who potrayed the same goofy, bubbly character like kotoko has pretty much off legal age at least. She was just 16 when they filmed the series season 1 and he was 27. 2 years after it's success the sequel followed soon after and she was 18 at the time. While he was 29 nearly 30. Such a big age gap

@@guzinha nope honoka the one who played kotoko was currently 26 years old and is still single. While yuki the one who played naoki was already married for about 7 years already and had a daughter with her.
