When cops don't like it when you assert your rights

At the heart of this incident is the question of what rights individuals have when accessing public properties for journalistic purposes. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. It notably protects the press and its ability to gather information, a principle that underpins Steve's presence at the Public Works facility. However, these rights are not absolute and can be subject to reasonable restrictions, particularly concerning safety and security.
Steve entered the Public Works facility without prior notification, relying on the assumption that his actions were protected under public access laws. Generally, public properties are accessible to the public, but restrictions apply, especially in areas where safety and secure operations are at risk. The legal framework surrounding trespass in government facilities often hinges on whether the areas are open to the public or if there are clear restrictions and signage indicating limited access.
In Washington State, where the incident occurred, trespass laws stipulate that entering or remaining on properties without permission can constitute civil or criminal trespass, especially if the areas are clearly marked or if individuals are asked to leave but refuse. The staff's insistence that Steve should have checked in is a reflection of local policies designed to safeguard both the facility's operational integrity and the safety of its visitors.
The crux of Steve's argument lies in his right to film activities at a government facility. The courts have upheld that filming government officials in public spaces is a protected First Amendment activity, as long as it does not interfere with the officials’ duties or compromise safety. However, the specifics of the situation-such as entering a construction area with heavy machinery-introduce complexities related to operational security and safety regulations, which might justify certain restrictions.
The interaction between Steve and the civil deputy also highlights the role of law enforcement in managing such situations. Law enforcement officers are tasked with upholding the law while also respecting individual rights. The deputy's involvement centered around ensuring that policies regarding safety and public access were communicated and adhered to, reflecting a balancing act between enforcing local regulations and respecting constitutional rights.
Several precedents, such as Glik v. Cunniffe, have affirmed the right to record public officials in public spaces. However, these rights are balanced against local government’s authority to manage their properties and ensure public safety. The nuanced debate in Steve's case revolves around whether his journalistic activities should override the operational concerns of the Public Works facility.

The lawsuit for the claimed rape and human trafficking of Cathy O'Brien and her daughter by Reagan, Cheney, Byrd, etc., could not proceed in court because the rapists/abusers (many government officials) hid behind "national security". They claimed through their lawyers that if they had to be deposed, that would endanger "national security". How convenient. Cathy has been very vocal about what was done to her and her daughter, wrote a book about it, talked about it in many conferences/lectures. The perverts were completely quiet. You would think they would at least sue her for defamation if they were truly innocent. None of the perverts sued. They were hoping it would all just go away. Imagine what the deposition would be like. I would like to be a fly on the wall when the depositions go down. Our world is ruled by satanic perverts and their lackeys, many of them clueless when it comes to our Constitutional rights. That's exactly how the ruling elite want them. They simply act as brainless muscles to bully the "slaves".

It was interesting that one of the male officers stated that he took his cues from their attorneys that there needs to be an offense committed in order to trespass someone from public property, especially since there was an apparent lack of restrictive signage. Other than very minor pushback from the administrative assistant, this seemed to be a very positive encounter and showed that neither the officers nor public administrators were ego driven.

I've never heard the term "Civil Deputy". She's armed. A lot of civil disputes are solved with arms though.

It does seem to be significant overkill for the "guard" to be wearing a gun and vest for protection. She has to call for police because she has absolutely no knowledge of what's allowed and not allowed. Somehow I don't think very many county equipment facilities are broken into DURING BUSINESS HOURS by any individual, let alone violent ones!

The level of paranoia, and the level of delusion over "ownership" of public property coming from taxpaid employees...is disgusting.
