I definitely remember my mom laughing for waaayyy too long when she realized that-despite consistent church attendance since birth, and being in a Christian school since kindergarten-it didn’t hit me until about age 14 that “Christ” wasn’t Jesus’ last name, or even part of his name at all. I was reading something that referred to him as “Jesus the Christ”, and was confused and amused because it sounded weird to me and I thought it was a mistake in the text or something. Then I realized nothing ever says anything like “Joseph and Mary Christ”, or “the Christs”, and that I knew what the word meant, so I SHOULD have caught on, but I hadn’t thought about it before and blurted it out and Momma could not stop laughing.

@Go Woke go Home Broke Yes. I can’t begin to imagine how or why they could even attempt to avoid that, as he was Jewish, and Christianity didn’t exist yet…? He was called, although usually derisively by his enemies, “The King of the Jews.” And, you know, it's very thoroughly established throughout the whole Bible, both testaments. So, yes, it’s quite standardly taught in depth, in churches and in Christian schools. I even spent time studying in synagogues with my Jewish friends. It’s definitely not a secret, _especially_ to someone who was heavily educated in Biblical religion, that Jesus not only had "Jewish roots”, but was completely and fully Jewish-not even a Christian, Himself, as he didn’t worship Himself, and the religion formed through his followers after his life on earth. And for the record, no one “taught” me it was his last name. I was quite simply and clearly poking fun at *myself* for a silly memory of my own goofy self. Have a blessed day, and my apologies for whatever I apparently said to make you react seemingly annoyed.

Read the bible and you will believe, and see why Jesus Christ is King over the Jews and the Gentiles (: like yourself bud :).

Nope, never looked for one. I derive my explanations mostly from a sort of "taalgevoel". An innate feeling of soaking up meanings and intentions, rather than booksmarts. I only speak 4 languages (EN, NL, FR and DE in that order), but can make sense of about 11-12 in total. Especially ancient Greek helped a lot with getting a foothold into other languages like French and Spanish. All you need to do is get started, and have a bit of luck =P

As a linguistics lover, I'm reposting my comment which I think would be of interest to you and I encourage you to look it up. Matthew 1: 21 says, "...and his name shall be called Jesus". This word "Jesus" is "SAVIOR" which can still be seen in the margin some KJV Reference Bible. It is the Greek word "sodezo (G4982) meaning to save, deliver or protect. The Hebrew-Greek dictionary shows that Sodezo is the Hebrew equivalent of YASHA (H3467) which is the root word for Yashayah (My Savior). THAT is THE NAME of what is translated as Jesus.. What has been shared is what has been commonly taught is Christiandom and what I was also taught .. BUT Yashayah is 'hidden in plain sight' right there in Matt 1:21 and corresponds with the CONTEXT, purpose, biblical function of Christ. By the way, another greek word for solter(G4990) which means 'a deliver; but Matt 1:21 says, "...he shall SODEZO his people from their sin.." Thanks for allowing me the platform for sharing this truth.

In Islam we have Jesus's name described as "Isa ben Marium" translated as "Jesus the son of Mary" and as "Isa Messih" means "Jesus Christ"♥️ Peace😊

@Pantha Medulla Read the text. The way Jesus spoke, was mostly not against wicked stuff, but for righteous stuff. Instead of speaking out against hate and injustice, he spoke about Love, Justice and righteousness. Jesus came to call people to repentance and into his Kingdom (reconciled with God), and in his Kingdom we are all equal. Just, read the text, atleast to understand what the man taught.

They heard about him while taking a World Religions class in college. More than likely, they only relate to Him as an historical religious rabbi, teacher or a great prophet as even the Islamic writings of their prophet Muhammad states in the Quran. People who disagree only do so for that very reason that when a man gains secular knowledge, he usually becomes atheistic or agnostic because God is not required to follow the rules of man. That’s a respectable stance in theory, but in practice it’s not realistic for names from 2,000 years ago where naming customs have completely changed and the written language is different. Even in the modern world not all people can pronounce all sounds in all languages. Translations have to happen when different alphabets are used, and different countries still have different naming customs. First and last names are a relatively new but important invention.

Tayfun Saral, im not sure this is the reason, but i can tell you that many jewish teachings were passed down oraly and not necasserly written down, infact it was even prohibited to write down holy teachings untill Rabi Judah Ha'nasi in the second century permitted to write in paper and gather holy teachings.

justice start that’s not really how it works man. The Bible is a very complex book full of books and letter and poems that were written in a different language. What you have now it’s a translation which might not even be accurate. I don’t believe god would make it as easy as reading a book that has been edited by men for hundreds of years so we can go to heaven I think that everyone needs to question everything that exist and you can perceive to question how and why. You’ll never get an answer so all you can really do is hope. I do believe in his teaching and I think everyone should follow them if they don’t well then they don’t lol. But everyone should look after their neighbors.

Oh my gosh I love you! I Googled the question was Christ Jesus' last name (I knew it wasn't but wanted to hear why) and came across your KZread video explaining this. It was explained in an amazingly informative way, answered my question but it was your delivery of these facts that was just so freaking awesome. You drew my attention 100%, I learned and retained the info. I would have thought you to have been the best teacher in the world had you been one of those that taught me. Good job on the Greek pronunciation. It's one of the few videos that Greek was pronounced as it should by an English speaker. I'd like to point out that Christ comes from the Greek 'Χριστός' (which as you said is the translation of the word Messiah and means 'anointed')

So can I ask, as a Greek, do you know if the name Χρηστος existed in Greek society before christianity arrived there or did it only catch on as a result of Christianity? I mean do you guys have people in your history that predate christianity that had the name Χρήστος? Is it derived from the Greek word for gold, χρήση?

The first thing said was incorrect. Jesus name in Hebrew is not Yeshua. That is the greek transliteration. Jesus name in Hebrew is, Yehoshua. Which is, Joshua.

@@mortezporter2566 Actually you almost had it correct. You just have the "u" in the wrong place. It's Yahshua. The reason why we have it translated in the 1611 edition of the KJV as Ioshua is because the translators understood the diphthong existing between the vowels yhw=yod hey waw. Because they are understood as vowels, the 'hey' and 'waw' make one sound "AW". Therefore the 'yhw' is YAH and not Yahu. This is also borne out in the abbreviated form of the name Yahweh, which is Yah, Psalms64:8, Isaiah12:2 and many other places. It is also what we have at the end of the names of many men of Israel like Isaiah, Zechariah and even HalleluYAH. In the name Ioshua(Joshua) you can also see the diphthong translated as the letter "o" and has the pronounciation "aw". It can easily be translated as Yahshua once you change the English "J" in "Joshua" to an I or "Y"(preferably). In addition, a variant of Yahshua(YHWSA) in Hebrew is YHWSWA (found in Deu 3:21 & Jdg 2:7), where there's an extra "waw" between the 'shin' and 'ayin' . This 'waw' forces the pronunciation 'shua' as the 'waw' is translated as a "u" sound. Thus we have Yahshua again and not Yahusha. Yahawashi isn't even Hebrew. This is an attempt by some black Hebrew Israelite groups to reinvent the Hebrew language. They don't realize that biblical Hebrew has been translated 2,000 years ago and agrees with what we find in most biblical Hebrew language books that teach Hebrew today.

@@mohumar I'm sorry but you are wrong. The Holy Bible is God's Word, not aliah's. Jesus said in the gospel, which means GOOD NEWS, "I am the way, the TRUTH and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6. Jesus saves us. Jesus Christ died for our sins, not Judas or aliah. If you die without Jesus as Savior, you will meet aliah and it won't be in heaven...HELL, with Satin the great deceiver. God's Word is Truth. God can not lie; and His Word will set you free from sin and death. Who ever believes in Jesus Christ as Savior will never die, but have eternal life with Him in heaven forever..

I cannot count the amount of times in which I called upon Jesus's in name in time of need or distress. To name a few, When I was sick with covid and had an unbearable migraine that that made me feel like dying, I called upon His name and the pain instantly became more tolerable. When I was struggling with addiction, I called upon His name and He lead me away from Babylon. When I'm in deep thought or meditation, I call upon His name and I feel my pineal gland grow immensely. I don't care what the world says, Jesus exists and He has always been by my side since the beginning. I will continue to refer to His name as Jesus until the day I die.

I had my personal experience. I'm part-time street evangelist and received many gifts as written in 1 Corinthians 12. I used to cast out demons in name of 'Jesus'. I was born-again because of the name 'Jesus' in my living room in Germany. We pronounce J as Y. Started with name issue, I was bit confused, Jesus, Yeshua, Yahushua, Yashua, Yahusha, so I prayed about the name, but no immediate answer. One day I had so bad dream, but was so real like I was awake. A group of demons with different ranking attacked me. So I started with name 'Jesus' as I used too because most my brothers/sisters were evangelical Americans pronounced like English speaking people. Some demons run away, but many still there, so I started to use those different names, most demons run away. The high and highest ranking of demons started to laugh when I used most of the names, except Yahusha because Yahusha not so common. The highest ranking demon was close to kill me, so no other choice then to use the name Yahusha, so I said "In Yahusha's name I command you to go away". They all run away including the highest ranking, they were so afraid. I understood just recently that Yahusha was a Old Hebrew name before Babylonian Captivity which similar to Isaiah which in Hebrew YeshaYAHu means YAH (shorting for YHWH or YAHUAH) is Salvation. But in active form, YAHuyesha (YAHusha) or YAH saves. Most Prophets had name YAH included. Elijah which actually ELiYAHu means YAH is ELOHIM (YAH is my GOD). Jeremiah which actually YirmiYAHu means YAH exalts. John is actually Yochanan (YAHochanan) means YAH is gracious. HalleluYAH means simply Praise YAH, not Praise the Lord. Most Angels have name with EL. MichaEL or Mikha'EL means Who is like EL (GOD). English translations can be considered as the worst translations of the Bible. All names have suddenly no more meaning.

Crazy stuff dude. I had a similar experience. Had a dream where people said that my buttocks are really nice and firm. Can confirm, I train them at the gym. Isa was the name given by God to his prophet, son of Mary, as mentioned in the Qura'n (the unchanged word of the Creator verbatim). On the day of judgement he will be called by the name *ISA*.

I believe that you also mistakenly call his Rock by the mistranslated name of Peter instead of his name given by Yeshua which was Kephas. Yeshua spoke Aramaic, not Greek. It is important to call people by their correct names. Yeshua did not change the name God placed on him and you doing so is against God's Will. Jesus is not the name given by God.

Christ means "scientist", Jesus means "healed by", best translated. They called him "the scientist whose words heal".

It wasn't mentioned, but יֵשׁוּעַ "Yeshu'a" is actually the Aramaic form of the name, itself a contraction of the original Hebrew יְהוֹשֻׁעַ "Yehoshu'a". The name is parallel to אֱלִישָׁע‎ "'Elisha" which is contracted from אֱלִישׁוּעַ "'Elishu'a" as both Jesus/Joshua and Elisha mean "God is my salvation", but using a different name for God; Jesus/Joshua from "Yah" (which appears at the start of "Jonathan"), and Elisha from "'El" (which appears at the end of "Daniel"). "'El" is used to refer to "god" as opposed to "God" in a way which "Yah" isn't, and because of this, Elijah's name which combines both elements can be understood as "(my) god is God".

El in the Hebrew portion of the Bible could refer to the one true God or a false god, sometimes even angels and other spiritual beings depending on the passage. Yahweh is the name the one true God called Himself when speaking to Moses at the burning bush. Show me any manuscript in any language referring to Jesus of Nazareth as "Yeshua". "We know that's his name because that's the Hebrew translation of his name". First off we don't have any Hebrew records of his life but if you go to Israel and ask any Hebrew speaker what they call Jesus they'll say Yeshu (ישו). Every Syriac source calls him Yeshu (West Syriac) or Isho (East Syriac) (ܝܫܘܥ). Every Greek source calls him Iisous (Ιησούς). Every Latin source calls him Iesus. Every Arabic source calls him Isa (عيسى). Every Armenian source calls him Hisus (Հիսուս). "Yeshua" is nowhere to be found. It's a modern made up invention. A "reconstruction".

Jesus was in India for his 16 missing years he learned love and affection from buddha and he was a worshipper of Krishna. When he returned back he was called Yeshu Krishna. Which later called Yeshu Christa transformed with Pronunciation differences Krishna was called Christa and then to Jesus Christ. As in India we have common practice to add Ram or Krishna to any name since 5000 years.

@Dom the best well I interpreted his name differently but I respect your belief.

What about his arabic name which muslims use Essa bin maryam (peace be upon him). Muslims also call him masseha (meaning christ). This part should also have been added to the video.

So if you listened to how his contemporaries called him, it would have sounded something like Yeshua?

The modern equivalent would be Joshua.

It never was and never will be isa Isa is the fake christ The antichrist It was actually Yeshū3 (3 = the guttural ayin sound found in Semitic languages). Later in the Syriac dialect of Aramaic there was a habit of pronouncing an initial aleph pronouncing was an ī and the vowel wāw (giving the ū sound) became pronounced as ō, so yeshū3 > īshō3. There was probably a switching of the final 3ayin to the beginning when entering Arabic, as there was, apparently this happens, and a shīn in Aramaic is equal to the Arabic sīn (which also had a shīn but uses it where Aramaic uses t/th) īshō3 > 3īsō (long o/ō existed in Quranic Arabic and various pre Islamic Arabic dialects) > 3īsā with the final wāw becoming an alif maqsura pronounced as ē (long e) in Quranic Arabic and as ā (long a) in classical Arabic. In summary: yeshū3 > īshō3 > īsō3 > 3 īsē (Qur. Ar.) / 3īsā (Cl. Ar.). sorry for the late reply in my mind i proved that his original name given to him by god was not isa but was infact Yeshuah In my mind his original name will always be his name in every language because thats the name given to him by god in gods original language meaning his name is yeshuah and will always be yeshuah in every language in every spelling

Flamix Flame dude be logical don't just write anything ,Arabic Hebrew and Aramaic are Semitic language so they are quite close .in Aramaic he has a name in a certain writing to get the same pronouncing of the name in Arabic you have to change the letters and that's is the difference there is a reason abrahamic religion where in Semitic language in the first place go read about those languages and will be amazed of how close they are and most of prophets names doesn't change that much a very slight changes unlike English most of them are completely different and if you need help in Arabic I'm here

ht moh HE IS JESUS HE KNOWS ALL. What point are you trying to make cause it’s not a good one. Everyone cant call Him the same thing because we dont all speak the same language that’s why there are TRANSLATIONS. Jesus is not a regular person so calling Him by His name in ANY language would not be hard for Him to understand, what don’t you get?

That is not correct either. People in that region at that particular time spoke Aramaic, not Hebrew.

I don’t get why people are saying Jesus is white when basic facts are in front of them.

Other than from people claiming that "why do people say jesus is white", I've never heard people say jesus was white...Maybe some ignorant people in the early 20th century but not today.
