Alan Watts Opens Up About Religion (thought provoking video)

“Speech extract from "Jesus: His Religion" by Alan Watts, courtesy of alanwatts.org”
This summarised lecture by Alan Watts is from the Alan Watts Library at alanwatts.org.
The image of Jesus is owned by the church traditions and authorities. He has been moulded to fit the interests of the church patriarchs for centuries, so much so that the prevailing image of Jesus is now so far removed from what he truly represented.
Namely an energy from the future who came to earth to bring illumination and knowledge to humanity.
The reason why the Jesus/Jeshua personality came to earth was to create an opening or doorway to a different state of consciousness.
He wanted to set an example of the possibilities that are available to each human being. He wanted to hold up a mirror to human beings and remind them of their own divine origin and the dormant potentials they carried within.
The potentials for peace, freedom and mastership over oneself.

I've been there. Now I enjoy them all or only the popular ones so far. I'm trying to learn, read, watch as much as I can. One thing I feel in my soul to be true is that there is Good and Evil. And Evil can be helped to be good and good can be tricked into being evil. If I have free will than I'm able to come to my own conclusions. Religion teaches us to much to discuss here but one thing it teaches is to be kind to all living beings. To forgive, because God does. Intelligent humans from the beginning of time wrote down these prophecies.. I don't think we will ever call something we say a prophecy ever again lol. So I humble myself to all religions and respect people's beliefs because of those who went out of there way to bring this kind of education on how to live your life in peace. It is us who chose to use these ancient writings to divide us. But to dismiss such brilliance is a sin in itself.

I’m Also Catholic and have read the Bible and I’ve questioned all things since I was very young, and again in my teens and late teens and very much in my 20’s & 30’s, and even more in my 40’s thru now in my 60’s…. I’ve found that to be a very good thing, maybe we found different answers but my experiences are on the whole it has brought me closer to Christ and with a deeper understanding of why I carry and build a stronger faith in our Lord and Savior, and with the Blessed Virgin Mary…. Today we have Medjugorje and I admit I had to question this as well and 1-2 years later I find that I also believe the messages are from heaven and The Blessed Mother and are also true. As we have knocked on many doors and opened them is what God wants us to do, and not be a robotic tool that doesn’t think or come to him with that attitude or mindset As we’ve heard n known “that we must have the faith of a child”, which is easy enough yet very challenging at times, and we all get dry sometimes.. I know most people then ask or say, that’s dumb or why should an adult have the Faith of a child… Very simple, cause like the change in your pocket, there’s 2 sides, Good n Evil. And for most people it’s just natural to become syndical with age, experiences and becoming desensitized due to life. So once your weak in faith wouldn’t someone make an easier target for the evil ones to destroy that faith you known makes sense in your heart n soul ? Again everyone one of us is different in all ways of our center and it’s decision making so we will come up with different answers and ideas and more questions Take care and don’t loose your faith in these most wicked of days

Correct, I also felt that way. Each and every religion professes their god is the only god. So how many true gods are there? Is it like the Greek gods, one for water, one for land, another for the sky ! If there is a supreme being and maker of humanity, it's not going to be like a club of gods competing on which one gets the most love and admiration. What kind of supreme being would allow babies and children to be slaughtered as is being done right now in the middle east??

Seek and ye shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened. I've been seeking for about 6 months because I had so many questions that I was afraid to ask due to my 47 years of Christian background, and I am completely blown away by all of the information I am learning as I continue to dig. I honestly feel that I am seeking in my heart and I am being shown the truth. All of this makes so much more sense and answers many of my questions compared to the answers I get from any religous follower that have more experience than myself or any preacher both local or all those on KZread. Here are a few questions I had after "trying" to get through the first 5 books of the old testament without being confused for the 2nd time (the first time I tried to read , it scared the crap out of me, I put the book down and went back into my box.) Here I am, 7 years later trying again and I feel no different than I did back then: 1.) How or why are we automatically born into sin? An innocent child coming out of the mother's womb with no sin is still considered a sinner? What makes this so? 2.) Why was God favoring a certain group of people? Aren't we all God's children? Aren't we all created by God? 3.) Why isn't the Rapture talked about in Revolations? I always thought it was, but it's not. Where did this come from? 4.) Why in the New Testiment is there so much talk about food and sacrafice? There was so many references to sacraficing animals. 5.) Why were so many people, including children murdered by God? The reasononing I heard preachers state was that God created life and it is a privlage to be alive, so he can do what he wants. Those children would have turned out to be awful, murdering, and corrupt people, so he did a good thing. I find this hard to believe. There is so much corruption now, so what's going on with that? Why aren't the current corrupt being destroyed by God now? 6.) God spoke so much of being fruitful and multiplying yet suddenly we are to spend our entire life with one person, yet so many men had several wives. Most all men back then and even now can't go an entire day without thinking of sex at least once per day. If the purpose of sex is to pro-create bringing children into the world, why did God allow sex to feel so good? Why is an orgasim one of the best feelings a person can experience? Some may say that it's the devil making us feel like that, but I say it's a sensation that was given by God in our body and the devil had nothing to do with that feeling. They may also say that people wouldn't pro-create as much to populate if it didn't feel good, but most have this desire to start a family at some point in their lives and would do it regardless of the feeling in order to start a family. I don't like to work because it doesn't really make me feel good, but working gives me something I want (money), so I do it regardless, however sex feels so good and is a beautiful experience, so why is it looked upon as a sin if you aren't in a union with someone? Why would even thinking about a person sexually be considered audultry? Everyone for the most part has felt this way about someone else at some point in their life. Is this something created by the Romans to make us feel guilt and shame? I could go on and on with the questions, but my main questions that lead me down this road was "How do I pray properly" because so many of my prayers go unanswered. This is when I learned about the lost gospels that weren't accepted in to the biblical cannon. The others were "How was the bible created?" and "When was the bible first distributed?". When I realized that the Romans were the main people that "decided" on the scripters permitted, I was super confused and unsure of so much. The Romans were violent dictators. They killed for sport. They were huge sinners and did un-Godly things, yet Constantine decided he wanted to be a Christian so everything changed after that??? Hell, the first thing I think of when I hear the words Roman Catholic Priest is "child molester". How many have gone to prison for this? Many....how many Christian leaders have turned out to be scam artists, rapists, and sexual molesters? During my search on the history of the bilble, I learned about many other texts that were not accepted and wondered....why??? I wondered if any of these texts could have been edited, altered, or changed. Many may say, "of course not"., but I say "what if?"....is it possible??? Yes! This is likely why there are thousands of different denominations in Christainity. Why so many? Are we that far apart on what is right or wrong? I am now at the point where I just love Jesus and I love God as the creator. I believe that Jesus was awake and understood God and creation and was a messenger and taught us how to be in oneness with God and the way we should live and try to be, but I believe God is loving and wasn't as harsh as the old testiment says and is accepting of most all people. I don't know what will happen to the corrupt and evil people, but I feel I only need to keep myself happy, strive to be a good person, take care of my family, be fair, and most importantly, to LOVE all. I am so confused on this because I do attend church and I feel as though I don't belong and I don't want to raise my children in a belief that could be false as I believe I was through my family. I feel now like I did when my parents told me Santa wasn't real. I feel betrayed but I still have faith that God is everywhere and in all of us. Maybe I'm just crazy, but I have a feeling that when I die, I will still go up to be with God because God loves all of us more than we realize and God wants us to do the same. I feel it's really just that simple. Great video by the way!

A higher power doesn't care what religion, race or sexual orientation you are so then religion became obsolete for me. I believe in the universe and that when our body surrenders the soul transforms for the next step. We came here with just a soul and as our souls are infinite meaning that our souls existed long before our arrival on this planet. I have found my soulmate meaning that we have shared countless lifetimes together and just as we were destined to find each other again so it will be in our future forever

You can’t blame God & the Bible for what flawed human beings do, especially when what they do are specifically frown upon by God, Jesus & the Bible. If you decided to leave the church or Christianity, it should just be because you wanted to for your own personal reasons, not due to someone else. You could always be a Christian privately without going to church or dealing with religious hypocrites. As for the other things you stated, you are very misguided on those things. You have created your own idea in your mind about who you wish God to be, with no real references to back it up. How do you know that our souls were here long before our bodies? Or that God doesn’t really care about this & that? You choose to discredit one belief system for the next, when there is no proof the new one is even right. With all that being said, let me just be blunt by saying that reincarnation & many lifetimes are FALSE! But I’m probably a very small minority of Bible believing Christians out there that believe that God created a system or force in the universe or spiritual realm, that tracts every thought, action & word that come from us, whether good or bad. And we attract certain things, circumstances, and people in our lives that are meant to teach & heal us in our lives. All in the name of better preparing us to be good candidates for Heaven when we leave here. For example, if someone needs to learn patience, you’re going to attract things & people in your life that will continue to try your patience until you heal that part of yourself. If you need to learn unconditional love, you’ll probably have to deal with a partner, your own child, someone else, or even learn to accept certain things about yourself that you don’t like, etc. And for the people that seem to have very little to no problems in life, and almost everything seems to be perfect, they too are being tested to see how they handle they good fortunes, good looks, how they treat others, etc. Life is meant to prepare you for Heaven, but unfortunately not everyone will make it. Everything is not about love, and God is not all about love. He has standards. And love rebukes sometimes. Not because you love your child means that you just let them get spoiled and out of hand, just to bear the name of you being a good parent or person. How can a loving God not rebuke or punish sinners, especially killers, thieves, rapists, etc.? They just get to move on to the other life? Would that be just? Would you want to live in a society with evil & dishonest people like that, especially when there’s no consequences for their actions? Of course not, so why would God want that in his presence, or even competitive and argumentative people? If He welcomed all, or even most, then Heaven would be a repeat of what Earth has always been. Do you think the people creating the problem in societies today, as evil as the world is, are religious God-faring Christians? Most of them are atheists & agonists criminal, even if they celebrate religious holidays; or they’re atheists & agonist wealthy people that think they’re too sophisticated & educated for the God of the Bible. And that’s why atheists & other Bible skeptics should stop asking ridiculous questions about if there’s really a God, why are there so much evil in the world. God gave us instructions and warnings after warnings about how to live righteously and peacefully with each other in the world, but human beings go against those principles, then blaming God as if we don’t have freewill. I guess they would’ve rather He made us like robots & not have freewill. But when Adam & Eve was created before they transcended sins on the future human race, they were already created to have freewill, which we inherited since they were our original ancestors. And lastly, my question for you is, if the God of the Bible didn’t create us & the universe, then how did everything in the universe get created?

Early Christians, after John wrote Revelation (into the second century AD), were not Catholic but attached still to what First century AD Christians (Jesus' followers and disciples) taught and believed. The straying had begun then, but not all strayed. Those who strayed became Catholics, those who apposed the straying slowly faded overall, even though some withstood the test of time at least according to their times. Catholics' attachment to Peter as a claim for an inheritance is unfounded in Gods word (more on this when anyone responds). And yes, God has USED people of the world to have his word or prophesies fulfilled, and those early "Catholics" were used in the same way. The Dead Sea Scrolls gave new light to True Christianity as Gods name was re-introduced into Gods word as it was suppose to: Gods name was never ever meant to have been replaced with "LORD" or just God in many places. The Dead Sea Scrolls gave better light to the Christian Scriptures as Jesus and some apostles quoted from the Hebrew Scriptures where Gods name is found so "LORD" and "God" and such titles have bee correctly replaced with Jehovah. Jesus is by far and away not like any other man mentioned in any other religious or spiritual book ever written. God did not send his only begotten son, the second most powerful and holy being in the universe, to be spat on, mocked, humiliated, imprisoned, beaten, tortured and killed, just so that it would be okay for everyone to have their own way of thinking spiritually. That is not how it works. God is a God of order and his word, The Bible, has been proved true and accurate time after time and again: only those who want and wish to do their own thing will believe what this shameless and uneducated video said. "The Great Tribulation" will without fail come soon enough, just take a look around the shameless and unholy world, Gods word comes to fulfillment every day. The time is short, as spoken in Revelation 12:7-12, but you still have time to beg God to help you find his True people before the end. I chose to live on a paradise Earth for ever and ever, as guaranteed by God himself--a paradise Earth everlasting.

In Catholic theology, the concept of personhood is intricately tied to the understanding of the Trinity, where God exists as one essence in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. This divine unity underscores the relational nature of personhood, emphasizing the interconnectedness and mutual dependence within the Godhead. When individuals open themselves to Jesus, they not only enter into a transformative relationship with Him but also embrace a broader connection with everyone else in relationship with Jesus. This inclusive love mirrors the expansive nature of God's love, which extends to all humanity. This relational understanding extends to the concept of eternal life. In the Christian faith, eternal life is not merely a continuation of existence after death but rather a dynamic communion with God and others. It is a state of perfect union and intimacy with the Triune God and the entire community of believers. This eternal communion transcends time and space, offering a vision of everlasting joy, peace, and fulfillment in the presence of God. Thus, embracing the relational aspect of personhood opens the door to a profound understanding of eternal life as a boundless journey of love and communion.

Hare Kṛṣṇa "Open up", too, please, if you can, or must, about irreligion, especially about irreligion that would pose as religion for the purpose of displacing religion as a goal of civilization! In the ranks of the planet's scientists today, there are no ... nescientists, eternally benighted souls attached to an atheistic theory, or atheistic philosophy, that would pose as the Absolute Truth? or as the ... Fountainhead of all that Be? No longer a nation "Under God" are we? If not, under what, if anything, is this Nation under? Science? Darwin? Whatever? Nothing at all? Insanity posing as Sanity? This leader, here called the Spirit of God, is literally (the wind of God or the breath of God) and was instrumental in the creation account. In the ancient world soul and spirit are both frequently denoted by wind or breath and we can see that this Spirit was indeed God The Bible says there was a sound like wind. We are Devin Sinners by our very nature... I can guarantee you as a man you will never find a demon even in the blackest pits of hell who could cause suffering like I can because unlike any demon I know exactly what love is & why we fear to lose our connections to it. No demon can wager a cost I will ever horner with any certainty, as I can be betrayed even by myself at any time I might choose to no matter how much I might wish not to or know with all certainly I will regret my actions... Likewise the Devine must be especially fearful of me because it's in there very nature to pull up just as it's in mine to pull down as I'm regrettably an unfaithful servant whom my master is all to aware will betray him time and again just like Judas. And I hate that I know I will always be forgiven when I don't want to forgive so I can't forget what I do not wish to bring back into this world as myself...

Catholicism is not Christian. If you have jumped to the idea that you are a god, you have attached yourself to the greatest bondage of all. Freedom is found in Christ. If you did not find freedom, you were not in Christ. We cannot save ourselves. We need the Savior.

What is love without God? God is love. The Bible is an historical document. This man opens up with lies. In Jesus day, they read and Jesus quoted from the Septuagint LXX of the Old Testament. Hebrew translated into Greek (the language of trade of the day). And we did not get our english Bible thanks to the Catholics. The Catholics read the Bible in Latin. KJV was translated in english from Latin in 1511 but that was not the first english Bible. Ultimately, that doesn't matter because we have over 45,000 manuscripts of the Bible it the original Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. You can put the New Testament together alone based on the sermon notes of first century preachers such as Irenaeus, Justin Martyr and many more. More evidence on Scripture that your very existence. You can reject it but you have to be a deliberate simpleton to deny it. I preach Jesus Christ of Nazareth not denominations or the demonic roman catholic church. Hell is to hot to be deliberately ignorant and deceived by these charlatans and workers of darkness.

Alan watts you are wrong bro now I'm not saying that you are totally wrong with the Catholics adopting the idea of Christianity but the real truth is the devil has them to take it partially over to corrupt the masses to mislead the youth and the general people of the public becuz if you have that KZread caption that reads that they made it all up then you are also mainly saying that they made up the whole existence of Jesus Christ and if you deny Jesus you are basically denying the the creator God which is Jesus father .and you are also denying the events that lead up to Jesus being born into a manger.becuz look at it like this from my perspective I'm talking about God the creator having the ability from simple train of thought in the back of Gods mind to think of Jesus being born into Marys womb and it can to be this is why in the bible God has rested the seventh day the bible says .so if God has this type of power to create his son in the virgin Mary then God is infinite he is inside of everything every living thing the trees he is embedded into the core of our DNA so to deny Jesus is to deny God himself .God is an extension of our selves.now I'm not saying that the Catholicsl churches didn't try and take over Christianity but some of Catholic people also have been misguided by the devil and all and what I mean by that is the devil can manipulate and deceive the people of the public .becuz he doesn't want the real truth to get out about the real holy bible .me Alan watts I'm going to ask you this very one question if that story is all made up then why would the virgin Mary lie about her pregnancy being born with jesus.when the KZread content creator had wrote a caption that says: and I quote they made it all up .well if they have made it all up then the very existence of God the creator is also none existing and the big bang theory also never happen too as well .everything around you is created by no other then God.and time was ideally already though of and created by God the creator himself .to me in my opinion time and motion is the same thing that's just my opinion becuz we cannot see the wind but we know that the wind is there .and again we can't see God the creator but we know he is there .and sometimes the devil's people makes false doctrines to also throw off the people of the general public.thst is basically what u are saying in your caption or the KZreadr is saying in the caption inside of the KZread video they made it all up .the devil is mainly using the media when u break down the word m-e-d-i-a take that word and apply it to another word of the same origin m-e-d-i-t-a-t-e,just like the word m-e-t-a -v-e-r-se everything within the confinement spaces of the origin of those words has the same similarity of that word.and marker Zucker burge is the one who created the metaverse and he is the CEO of Facebook and all.let that sink in.

I believe Jesus must have felt it constantly, and just wanted to show us how to experience it.

I'm 29 now, and have slowly began to realize that no one knows anything. I began demystifying the way I thought about psychedelics and life. The way I used to think about spirituality, and the way many do is all just cope. You don't need anything outside of yourself, and the present moment. Only you can "save" yourself. Alan Watts, the maestro of Eastern philosophy and the art of living, reminds us that life is not a problem to be solved, but a mystery to be embraced. His profound teachings invite us to let go of our rigid perceptions, dive into the depths of existence, and dance with the ever-changing rhythms of the universe. Through his wisdom, we find liberation in accepting the impermanence of life and discovering the beauty in every moment. Of COURSE there are problems in this world that NEED to be solved. Dancing w/ the universe is not the solution. Jesus's life & teachings are, & his presence is. All people are interconnected, but it's not people or the rocks or trees that save people from themselves. Mankind very much needs saving from itself. As Jesus said that God would do, God sends the Holy Spirit of Truth in Jesus's name & as Jesus said, the Holy Spirit is a teacher. The Holy Spirit is very real & is *Amazing.* I have much direct experience w/ the Holy Spirit. People don't know what they're missing & what it's supposed to be like on Earth. God sends The Holy Spirit to those who truly repent of sin, ask God's forgiveness, & accept Jesus as Lord & savior. Many people who consider themselves to be followers of Jesus actually don't understand him & aren't following him. I feel sorry for anyone who has no idea that they have a soul & that it's the most important thing they'll ever have & that the most important question in life is where your soul will go after life on Earth. Do yourself a favor & read a red-letter, modern-language New Testament w/ Jesus's words in red. Focus on Jesus. Not on what a student or apostle of his taught. Focus on Jesus. People who are dismissive of him make a huge mistake & don't know what they're missing out on.

I was born in a Catholic Church, but never had much influence of god in my time growing up. I didn’t pray for anything, and I knew that I’d be lying to myself if I forced myself to believe in something that simply doesn’t seem real. I’m not denying the possibilities of *a* god existing. I do not believe in any religion though, and I am very happy not doing so, because I know I am free. The only reason I would believe in Jesus is if I was afraid of where I go after dying, but I’m not. I am afraid of leaving behind the people I love, but where I go isn’t something to overthink about. What happens, happens. I believe this society we have is built on beliefs and ideas, but *life* is so much more complex to us because we are so smart.

I’m grateful to have understood this from a very young age. For all her faults, my mother managed to teach me the truth of this, and I took up the task to learn more about it. As a musician, I started performing for all kinds of churches, learning their procedures & most of their various teachings. This is why I am of all religions & none of them, and perfectly comfortable worshipping anywhere, with anyone, regardless of their beliefs. If there is an humanistic religion, surely I practice a credible version of it.

WRONG.

Thank you ❤ for posting this. Alan Watts is a master. I have recently experienced what he just described. In my early age, I was Catholic, then in my teens a born again Christian. I’ve gone through so much pain and suffering (health related) and have this tremendous curiosity of life, of it’s purpose and if there is a creator. 6 years ago I saw a sign about meditation at a cancer center at a clinic. That journey led me to science and eastern philosophy (Buddhism, Psychology, Evolutionary Psychology Neuroscience, Hindu, Daoism, Confucianism)). That’s where I ran into books by Alan Watts, Robert Wright and others. Videos like this are amazing. I have started to see without the lenses or tint of my human nature. I can see clearly like never before. I Can see what ppl call imperfections but now. I Can see the fleeting nature of feelings and understand why they arise. I Can identify the inner chatter in mind and recognize it’s not me but my Default Mode Network (part of the brain that plans, left hemisphere). Despite my health issues, I accept them as part of this beautiful and miraculous life. And its only the beginning. I know I sound crazy but I can see and definitely experience what Alan Watts is describing. I wish with all my heart you all do as well. I wish you all my success, health, love and no suffering. 🙏🏻 I’ll be sharing this wonderful video with others.

Christians believe that the human spirit is somewhat sinful and needs to follow Jesus to become free from sin. True freedom would be to say: there's no sin. Therefore, there's no condemnation and no specific path. All paths are possible.

I tried to live without a faith in a higher being, a meaning with life and everything. It was the darkest, most destructive part of my life that almost killed me and made me suffer a lot. The darkness took over me and made to walk in a path towards ultimate destruction. I would not be alive if I didn't open my eyes and realize that I am being lied to about that there is no God or meaning, no darkness or evil. I don't literally believe in religion as it's written by humans in a different age(some things are wrong in the bible and can be disproven), but I do believe in a higher being that some call God. This faith helps me with everything in my life. It makes life feel more meaningful, me more happy, stronger, smarter, wiser, a best version of myself. While religions have issues (especially fanatics which are blinded by darkness), I also see downsides with atheism. A lot people feel mentally bad, they loose the meaning of life and become destructive and depressed. A lot of decadence, drug abuse to feel some more meaning and less depression. Many loose themself, some even die in this process. We live in a dark time, a faith can help to heal your soul. You don't need to be religious or believe in religion to believe in "God". God is within us aswell. It's the love and light, and our soul.

I myself committed my life to Christ at age 26 in the throws of a bi-polar manic episode (my first of a few). Now, 38 years later I still believe in Him. Its been a rough ride, interspersed with 2-5 year periods throughout of blatant ungodly living followed by repentance. I am stronger in Him today than ever but at the same time more aware of just how deeply I am permeated in sin even though it isn't dispayed in such blatant or obvious ways, such as drug/alcohol abuse and sexual sin. A lot of sin is derived from pride, bitterness, resentment, and wanting what I want when I want it. God is showing me that the fruit of the Spirit; Love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control is what is most important. For this will glorify God in heaven when others see these attributes in a man who claims that Jesus is Lord of all. Just as importantly, when a man becomes aware that he is posessing these attributes then surely Christ has made His abode inside of him. For he promised; "I stand at the door and knock. If any man opens to Me I will come into him and make my abode with him. And dine with him. And I will manifest (or reveal) Myself to him." Now that is a promise I will do my all to hold Him to.

    @yvonneollivier7088

    7 ай бұрын

@@Success1-xc4by I have not done research into A. Watts since seeing, hearing this video. I'm not enough interested in a narrative about him, positive or negative. I recognized the views expressed here as valuable. Period. I am not looking for a guru. It would be a mistake to assume that one who takes Jesus at his word, "The Father is greater than I," has not recognized the reality, existence and goodness, of our Creator, God. Too many people have, IMO, deleted the Christ's teachings and example from their minds and lives. They substitute worship of him, idolatry, rather than living in the example of his loyalty to God and truth or in following his way of integrity, whatever the consequences. It is easier to say, "Jesus died for my sins," than to "Seek ye the truth," much less to live it. A man, Mr. Watts specifically if your summary of his end is true...and I have no reason to doubt that, can be right in some things, while very wrong in others. The reason I had never looked him up, before or since, is that I was awate that he was something of a "spiritual", or perhaps more accurately "philosophical", rock star and he frankly struck me as full of himself in any brief audio/visual encounters/writings that I'd stepped away from. Until the above. What he said here, although I agree with it, has not made me a disciple or even a fan. Consider that honest people can speak falsehoods unknowingly, holdng unrecognized false beliefs. Fools or charlatans can also speak a portion of truth, with or without intention. He is not what counts. True words are. I agree with you, if you mean to imply that self-absorption is a dangerous road. I do think, from the little I have encountered his work, that he was self-absorbed. If the inner reality was all that mattered, there would be no need for others, society, or even creation. One's intuitions need to be checked against what is observed. In ambiguous cases, surely Spirit, God, must be asked for wisdom and clarity. To make any specific man or prophet into one's God is idolatry. But to regard one's own insights as one's highest reference, one's God, is also. If he did that, it was in error. No wonder he was not satisfied by it. Our souls/human spirits are indeed specific aspects of God. A part is not the whole. We are not God. We are not complete in ourselves. And because God created us of Himself, we are also precious to God, and no good thing remains lost forever. God is wills to share his nature with us, and to reveal Himself to the extent that we can absorb divine nature. We need each other and our Creator. It is also true that we are engaged here in a 'trial and error" process of discovering truth. I wouldn't hold Mr. Watts' diminishment and unfortunate death against him. It goes with the territory of living as a limited, sometimes mistaken, human being. I assume that he did his best as he understood life. Although not my cup of tea, he probably inspired many people to look within for the first time. It's too bad if he thought that was the whole ball of wax. In the movie, Groundhog Day, the main character begins, with some reason, to believe that he may actually be God. He is only brought back to reality when he cannot save the life of an old man. Maybe, next life, Mr. Watts sees it all. Or maybe he already does, and he has served his purpose on Earth by his work and teachings. Despite having a blind side, for those who can separate content from personality, and who are drawn to him without hero worship aspects, he may present needed signposts. Thanks for your comment. Yes. The whole ball of wax IS God. It is His creation. Just give us credit, we are the parts of God that He sent to serve in the trenches, and often on a very limited 'need to know' basis. There is a reason for all of it. Truth, indeed love, can only prove to be superior and divine when challenged. Earth challenges. And in us, the one God creates individuals of His own being.
