What's inside a GP-5 filter?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

What's inside a GP-5 filter?
In this video I cut open a GP-5 filter to show you what is inside, a particulate filter containing asbestos, a divider section, activated charcoal pellets and a cotton wool layer to contain the charcoal.
Please do not cut open a GP-5 filter inside your house and follow rules for asbestos disposal.
There is also lots of shards of metal and paint dust that come loose when opening these filters.

    I like the "straight to the point" way of you explaining things. No logo animation that lasts 20 seconds, no loud and obnoxious greetings, nothing out of the topic. You may record your stuff home in a room anything but tidy, but you give more info and give better explanations than many other people. You're pretty good at what you're doing.

    filter 2 (after the charcoal filter) can be replaced with an air filter from parts of a new motor matic vehicle. then to be more sterile you can add a material coatings from the n95 mask as the third layer. so in order to be maintained, the mask is used only once in certain of emergency conditions (usually toxic gas). mask model can be made according your taste, but using the hose as a respirator connector is better because the filter can be replaced in many times. honestly i have never made it but from the instructions of this video you can imagine the results later like what. thanks ☺️👌

    I have cut open an ekastu a2b2e2k2p3 filter and it had like suspicious looking parts that like blocked the charcoal and were put between the activated carbon and the particulate filter it hab like long thick fibers there. Also the Particulate filter didnt burn it just smelt like plastic when I put the flame under it. The filter expired in 1992 but i dont know when it was made i think in like the 1970s. Would you be able to take the Asbestos part off of the bottom and take out the charcoal/lead stuff and be able to have a cosplay filter?

    Hopefully soon we can get some data for GP-7/PMK filters, assuming we don’t already. If that sort of info exists already, I’d like to know.

    You sir, have a lot more balls than I do. I hope you survived without inhaling any. This was a good video, thanks, although I do wonder why there was any asbestos at all in the paper section. (On a side note, theoretically shouldnt the charcoal and cotton prevent any inhalation of the fibres?)

  • @Weaponsandstuff93

    @Weaponsandstuff93

    Because the Soviets mixed asbestos into the paper layer. As for blocking the asbestos, depends on how small the fibres are that break off.

    Aye, I know that, but why bother? There was so little asbestos it would be unable to really add anything to the filters potency, so it makes little sense to use/waste it on something so trivial.

    Would a GP5 filter still be useful for safety uses after the particulate filtration section was removed? If not, I could eventually remove the particulate filter and just put the GP5 back together for cosplay and skits. Correct?

    I have heard that the filters contain a percentage of lead which can dissolve to inside the filter or something over time, or in the paint. Anyway either im curious about testing it with one of those lead tester things, i dont know how accurate those are but i guess they can give a general idea whether something has lead in or not. Not sure how much it will be able to detect, i have never used one. Also im curious about the paint on the intake containing lead, which i doubt, but hey i wouldn't be surprised if it did.

    Hey, As I've shown you on twitter I opened my soviet canister. After 3 months the bags which I stored the particular layer in started to decompose. So I put the particular layer carefully inside a glass jar and closed it (+ I put duct tape on top so it won't open by accident). A small amount of the particular layer (about 1x1cm and 0.3cm in height in total) flew away. I think I probably don't need to call any fuzzy hazmat disposal teams??? The area which I opened my filter is an open area but its surrounded by apartments. Also lastly I only used gloves and a respirator to open the filter, how do I properly clean or decontaminate myself. Me and my friend just used a lot of soap and scratching afterward.
