Out of all of the gas masks, I like Number 9, the GP5 gas mask. As it does appear a lot in games, I like it for it's simple design, despite not being russian, the design is heavily used in most games that use masks, the only two games that most resemble the mask, I'm not an avid gamer, so please do tell if there are any that also resemble the mask, was Mr. Foster from KF2 and Smoke from Rainbow Six Siege.

I think the scary thing about gasmasks is the dehumanizing effect. It's like with our firefighter masks, you don't see a face behind it, you don't see if the person behind it is angry, sad or frightened, and the sound most gas masks make, especially with an air tank like we have them in the fire department, with just the constant wheezing when in- and exhaling, it has a rather frightening effect.

With WW1 masks you're meant to bite down on the inside of the exhale valve to breathe out of it, modern masks don't have that problem.

If a dude was coming up to me with one of these on his face I certainly wouldn't be happy about it

if theres something i love more then flamethrowers its Gas masks, when i tell you i can use 4-5+ hours just looking at them when im in a war-related museum, like damn. I would like a gas mask for my history collection

I think the reason they're so creepy or scary is because when you see someone wearing one in a contaminated/toxic, potentially war-torn land, their facial expressions are hidden. You don't know if they mean harm or if they're there to help you. Either way, it can be terrifying.

I think I remember my Grandmother saying that she had to wear one of those British Mickey Mouse masks seen as she grew up during ww2.

If she was young enough then that would have been possible, I don't know what the age cutoff was for those rather than the normal civilian issue masks.
