I saw a Polish education movie from 1950's mentioning disinfection of gas masks by formalin solution or denatured ethanol.
Not sure if you can get it elsewhere but here in the US you can get this stuff called Trident food grade silicone spray. It's the absolute best rubber preservative and works great for preserving gas masks.

I wonder should I spot clean my MSA Millenium gas mask with a rag or submerge it in water
Great video. Look forward to more. Whats your take on the avon 50mm cartridges vs the 40mm cartridges? Pros and cons?

Hi, I don't know what you mean by 50mm cartridges but if you have on mind the proprietary ones used in Avon M50, I always advice people to use masks compatible with classic 40x1/7 threaded filters. 👋

@cbrnacademy ya the proprietary ones. Im curious why avon thought theyd be a good idea. But it is nice theyre selling to the public now so you can source more.

@@adamdyment9732 Couple of reasons why there're being used in military (the same goes for similar filter types in British GSRs). They are decently low profile and evenly balanced in comparison to 40mm cartridges. Most importantly, the key component are those self-sealing valves to ensure safe change of filters in contaminated environment. But my guides and tutorials are meant for civilians throughout the world and 40mm filters are the most accessible, not to mention various protection factors you can choose from, which is not the case with proprietary ones.

@cbrnacademy thats good information, thanks. I plan on buying a 40mm kit for my m50 for the reasons you mentioned. But maybe a spare set or 2 of the proprietary 50s is a good idea as well
hello there, i just want to ask, do you think my czechoslovakian m 10m (the upgraded version) can be cleaned like this? its kinda old, so i just want to be assured.

Absolutely. Check out our M-10M assembly video, which you can also use as a guide for proper disassembly. With the facepiece completely stripped, you can clean it the way described in this video. ☺

Wouldn't this process harm the internal system for the vpu on the fm50/c50?

No, never had a single problem with it, but I get what you mean. This is written in the C50 user manual when it comes to cleaning: "Immerse the respirator in warm water containing a weak solution of mild disinfectant or a mild, non-allergic soap."
Mine is a little old, it’s from WW1 and I can’t seem to take off the filter 😔
Do you suggest I do this with my 1984 M17 A1 gas mask? Mine has no hood and it’s black

Once the mask is fully disassembled, why not. Even though a user manual (found on the internet) only describes the casual cleaning method. It would be best to check cleaning instructions from a user manual that came with the mask.
Nice video but can I do for gp5?

Yep. Just go step by step although there is nothing to disassemble with the CM-6 before cleaning.
