Filter buying advice

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Advice on buying respirator/gas mask filters. Lots of people complain they cannot find filters for a sensible price but they are often looking up the wrong terms.
Preferably you want to search for "ABEK filter" or "RD40 filter" these are the commonly used industrial terms for NBC/CBRN filters, an A2B2E2K2P3 filter is the same as a high end CBRN filter. As their is more competition in civilian industry and no real reason for surplus, it is far cheaper to buy the same filters this way than trying to find NBC/CBRN filters that are somehow in date.
The RSG filters I showed in the video were just under £10 for a pair, making each filter roughly £5, both the filters are dated to expire in October 2018 and are sealed well, the production date is 2013 meaning the filters have a shelf-life of 5 years, but could be expected if sealed to last longer than this.
RD40 is the same as 40mm NATO/STANAG, so I would always advise searching for RD40 filters over NATO filter if you want something in-date.

Is it just me or are filters not only hard to come by, but also expensive as hell to the point where stocking up is pretty much impossible and searching for any decent one especially the more specialized ones such as to survive basic smoke fumes is astoundingly steep in price.

It was something to do with the Covid pandemic, the prices of everything gasmask related have just increase by a lot, also lots of people collect old Soviet gas masks so the sellers increase the price knowing people who like games like stalker and metro are gonna buy these masks for cosplays and for collecting.

And since 3m only gives them 5 year shelf lives id imagine these would last another 5 or 10 years.

Maybe gp5 owners should just buy plastic 40mm nato filters and force those it, as the plastic will deform before the metal, keeping your mask safe, but also deforming into the threads, thus giving a more air-tight seal. I would do it, maybe do it the way you tap threads, as in screw in, screw out, screw in further, screw out, and repeat. Do it at your own risk, but if you don't feel like spending 20 dollars on shipping+the filter itself for you gp5, its worth a try.

Before I watch the video. (And I apologize for doing this in advance it's a bad habit) on the subject of filters is there anywhere or way to properly dispose of gas mask filters. One of the Soviet era filters for my GP 5 has become damaged and it's leaking charcoal Asbestos and other nasty stuff all over the place. Considering some of the materials in the filter are considered hazardous I really don't feel comfortable just chucking it in the trash thanks man.

Yeah it's illegal in most developed countries to throw asbestos in with regular rubbish, you will have to bag it and follow asbestos disposal instructions.

Wandering Ranger I already did look into that. Turns out the closest disposal facility for hazardous substances is two and a half miles away. The fire department was kind enough to take it off my hands and dispose of it for me. That seems odd however.

great deal. I am not really a preper, mostly curious, so not a big deal for me. But i like good deals nonetheless. Over here in germany its probably easiest to get the dräger x-plore ones(from a couple of hours of research yesterday). Not quite as cheap as yours there but around 10€ a piece if theres like 1 year left on them. Completly new ones from a proper shop with like 4 or 5 years left on them usually for something like 20€. not bad at all.

  • @Weaponsandstuff93

8:07 To be frank, let's say it's 20, 30, or even 50 dollars every 3 years - even then it's worth it (if it's gonna buy one life...). Actually, even better - just buy a brand new filter, and it will last times more than 3 years, so in the end it will still be 10$ every 3 years, no (I'm just speculating, I'm not an expert on filters at all)? How much a brand new filter lasts?

This is only a slightly more obvious display of the inhumanity of this system.
