How long do Gas Mask filters last?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Information on how long Gas Mask/Respirator filters last.
Gas mask filters are often given best before/expiry dates of about 5-15 years depending on the filter. Filters will last longer than this when sealed properly but the amount of time is unknown.
Once a filter is open depending on what the filter medium is exposed to will affect how long the filter lasts.
The size of the filter will also make a big difference, Russian EO-14, and EO-16 canister/coffee can filters will last far longer than compact filters designed to be light-weight and mount to the side of a gas mask.
The internal components of a filter will affect the lifespan as well, for example, a filter with a chromium layer will last longer than a filter without chromium that relies on activated charcoal alone.
Lastly, particulate filters have an independent lifespan from carbon inside the filters.

    If you buy a filter in the game(which most don't do since you get enough filters it shouldn't be an issue) they last a lot longer, like a half hour. The idea being your filters, being scavenged, are almost done already. Still a bit silly though since they'd be bad by sitting open in a contaminated environment.

    Adsorption is the adhesion of molecules of gas, liquid, or dissolved solids to a surface. This process creates a film of the adsorbate (the molecules or atoms being accumulated) on the surface of the adsorbent. It differs from absorption, in which a fluid permeates or is dissolved by a liquid or solid.

    I have a few questions. Question 1: Can any modern Russian filter work well with any GOST threaded mask ( as long as it's the right size of course )? Question 2: Since it's not really possible to know exactly how long a filter will last in action, what signs will let you know that it's failing and you need to swap it out? Question 3: Are there any modern versions of the larger filters that are safe to use? Question 4: Can you recommend a cheap filter I can use with my gp-5 for Halloween?

  • @Weaponsandstuff93

    @Weaponsandstuff93

    6 жыл бұрын

    1. Yes as long as you don't get a proprietary filter, all modern Russian filters are GOST threads. 2. If you detect odour through the filter, the activated charcoal layer is failing, if it's hard to breathe through the filter, the particulate layer has clogged up. 3. Not as far as I'm aware. 4. Any NATO filter will work if you force it on, won't make an air-tight seal but is fine cosmetically, you might ruin the filter port doing that though.

    @Weaponsandstuff93 I got a couple Avon GPCF50 Filters today from 9/16 (Manufacture date) and i tore the seal on one of them to make sure it would actually fit my M40 and only had the plugs off long enough to check the seal/ if it's air tight, etc with my mask. I plugged both ends back, put it back in the package. Would it still go for the usual expiration date like one not opened?

    This may be a dumb question (and yes I am late to the party) but where do you normally find your gasmask filters and what would a fair price would be for a full protection CBRN filter? I've looked around online (amazon & ebay) and have only found sparse and expensive results: the stuff I found was simply in low quantity and had pretty steep prices. I suppose you could say I'm looking for a good, trustworthy source to buy these CBRN or even Level 3 particulate filters.

  • @Weaponsandstuff93

    @Weaponsandstuff93

    6 жыл бұрын

    P3 filters often turn up on Amazon new for about £6, otherwise seard RD40 filter, ABEK filter, or CBRN filter. You just have to be sensible when looking at price VS expiration date.

    I have two GP5s which I recently got. I’m still confused to date the filters because one says 90-411-11-76 (Idk which is the year) and my other just says 4-49. I’m well aware of the asbestos thing in these filters, from what I seen there not damaged and were stored properly but I just need to know how to date them for future reference...can anyone lend a hand?

    Hey guys I have a question. I bought a gas mask which I only want to use as a.. mask. Like for helloween or something. My questions are when is the filter activated? When you remove the seal cap at the bottom? What happens when I open to top cap? Basically I just want to use it as decoration on my face and not use the actual filter (while still being on the mask). My idea is to remove the rubber on the exhale holes so I can breathe in also through it. Does wearing the filter hide any dangers?

  • @Weaponsandstuff93

    @Weaponsandstuff93

    Just attach a safe filter to the mask rather than destroy a mask by ripping the exhale valves out.

  • @Weaponsandstuff93

    @Weaponsandstuff93

    As long as it reseals to be air-tight only minimal damage will have been done to the filter, but obviously a fully sealed factory filter will outlast a filter that's been opened and resealed a few times.
