@@TheStaniG "One would think" - Is that a scientific statement of fact? or the feeble rantings of some moronic troll who doesn't actually have any factual knowledge so has to resort to put downs? What is the similarity between a nerve agent and a Virus? What web site? The CBRN is not an organization and doesn't therefore have a web site! I've been to Canadian Prepper's web site of course but can't see a source to specifications that actually answer my question. Do you even know what the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) specifications are? The N100 I referred to is set by them and has nothing to do with CBRN. Just because it has a "B" in the abbreviation doesn't mean it can protect against all and every biological molecule, agent, element or compound. Also if you so smart please tell me if a virus, which is usually between 0.005 and 0.3 microns in size will be stopped by these filters? Are you 100% sure it's going to block it? You ASSUME and try to use some kinds of implied logic but that is not science or fact... The CDC guys have a totally closed loop system with their HAZMAT suits. So when they are going into unknown situations there is no filter they breath air that they take with them in tanks and can keep there suits sealed. So this is why I asked the question to try and get a definitive answer from somebody that actually has expertise and KNOWS not ASSUMES. If you are a qualified expert please do enlighten us - otherwise people could be risking their lives using something that isn't actually going to work to prevent a 2019-nCorV infection. I've no doubt these filters, as general prepping and survival filters are great, but just like any Swiss army knife - compromises are always made with design and they might not handle particulate this small.

@@stewartrv They filter infectious airborne particulates, yes. Such canisters used with PAPR in some wards (expensive gear); but remember that the gear must be decontaminated and the canisters go to the biohazard garbage - so one use = one new filter (or 2 if it is a twin model !)

I am sold on this filter, I do not get the complaints over the price point on the items you have for sale. I have bought gear from amazon, army surplus and Canadian preparedness, People need to learn there is "no free lunch" , and you get what you pay for. They will not receive a free shipment complaining about the price point or trolling the video. I am far from rich, how ever when I see something, I save my money, a little out of each pay, then I order what I want. The unites I have bought from CP are the only items that have not failed me when I use them, and I have abused each and ever piece of equipment. I will put the argument into this perspective, I have bought three different saws from camping supply outlets, all failed me at some point, the blade broke or went dull fast, I must have spent over one hundred dollars on them, then I bought a silky big boy for about sixty dollars from CP, I have processed soft wood, hard wood and even frozen wood. The saw has never failed me, and you get what you pay for. I would have saved money if I just bought the silky say first. I save money by just buying the one piece of equipment that exceeds the quality. You can buy it once from Canadian Preparedness or buy it thee times from Walmart or Coleman, that would be up to you,

I look forward to your next video, and I'm sure it's scary stuff, even from an objective fact based approach and not fear mongering. Between genetically engineering our crops to be only a couple strains (meaning all it takes is one fungus to wipe out all of them when you don't have genetic diversity), the absolute devastation we are creating from factory farming (waste contamination from the factory farms themselves AND chemical contamination from the fertilizers we use to grow the grain we feed the animals, to overflow of waste sewage pits every time there's a storm), the unsustainable nature of industrial agriculture, and draining of the aquifers, there is plenty of scary stuff out there that doesn't rely on conspiracies or fear mongering.

Gas mask filters will last indefinitely if their sealed from moisture, you could make one and vacuum seal it and have it last until the seal is broken. The filters for the m50 mask come in sardine like cans and pop when you open them. Once open they degrade based on use in humid climate, they have a little indicator that turns blue when its recieved too much moisture, you can still breath through it and itll filter out dust, but it wont absorb chemicals any more. We use expired filters for training. Also any filter, if submerged in water is ruined. So i would say 70+ bucks is too much for them, considering you can buy activated carbon dirt cheap and cotton filters even cheaper

Not necessarily. The plastic bag used to seal the filter is usually permeable to gases at some level, and the filter itself (especially plastic components) exhibit "off-gassing" of volatile compounds, which slowly adsorb into the activated carbon, degrading it over time. Over time, degradation will almost certainly occur. Storing the filters in a cool place (e.g. a refrigerator, or even a freezer, if they can withstand it) away from gases (including any odors) and moisture would slow down the process, but degradation is still likely to occur at a timescale of decades (or perhaps longer under very optimal storage conditions).

Depends on the humidity of the environment, filters will last forever aslong as their vacuum sealed. Activated carbon dosnt expire, but if it recieves too much moisture/ pollutants it will stop being effective. These are over priced as hell, and the 20 year shelf life is a hoax, they look like good filters, but any similar filter will last the same if still sealed. As for time of use, it depends on the environment. If your breathing heavy in a humid enviroment, they wont last more than a few hours probably, but if your breathing normal in an arid enviroment, they could last more than double that. Also any filter that is exposed too a chemical threat should be disposed of immediately during decontamination. The more chemicals the filter is exposed too, the quicker it runs out. If you breath heavily in a cloud of chlorine gas for 5 min, it could use the filter up. (You wouldnt be able too breath in a cloud of chemical gas as their would be no oxygen anyway)

I'm curious why this filter is $80 when a standard NATO filter for an Israeli gas mask is $14.99 and has a shelf life of 25 years and does the same thing. Thanks for the content.

Good video of a great product. I'm looking forward to the threat to the food supply video. I've always said that if I see other countries like China and Russia buying up huge amounts of grain, it makes me think they're getting ready for some thing in the future, and I just heard China is now buying.....I "THINK" they said 7 million MORE pounds or bushels of grain a day from the USA, so it's some thing to watch and think about. Maybe it's the trade deal and tariff pressure President Trump is putting on them or maybe some thing else. Keep up the great work.

The main difference between these two European brands (Mestel is Genova based, Gumarny Zubryi is in East Czech republic, guzu.cz/ - Mira is only a reseller in USA) is that actually the masks are used by Army and pro in Czech Republik and elsewhere, they have the experience of making gas masks for chemical war since the 1930s! while Mestel made a few years ago a kind of adaptation of a full face diving mask (Ocean Reef) for CBRN, and their mask is not widely used and bought by pro, if not at all (nearly never seen a pro team with the SG, they have Dräger, Scott, MSA, 3M, ...). Both are not validated for being sold in USA (OSHA) but they passed European tests (which are reliable). The front screw thread of the Mestel comes from the SCUBA attachment of the diving mask (!!!) and is not so convenient, better to use side twin filters ... Pretty sure as well that Mestel does not make the canisters. Could be Pirelli or other European brand. And the Czech mask has nearly everything included, not the Mestel. There should be even some faked copied Mestel sold outside ECC - to be confirmed. Gumarny Zubrii sells two models CM6 (rather civilian and rescuers), with visor, and CM7M (military aimed or high end resistance to toxic, twin visors). For details check the original web sites of these two brands. Personally, I should prefer the Czech masks, with Butyl version (and silicone inner mask).

@@Muhovc Not sure, I guess they assemble in their plant the cartridges, but indeed the activated charcoal is produced elsewhere. Since it is a special order filter - the 20 years life rated NRBC (security - military - terrorism control), we dont have full access. Anyways, please remember that 1 ) if you have to deal with any nerve gas or lethal toxics as during an industrial leak, you have the professional skill, the authorizations, and the team (+ the right gear); 2 as a civilian, you are not likely to be exposed to nerve gas and other high concentrations of such toxics as acid gases, ammoniac, etc. So, outside the professional context (emergency, industry, military), any high quality industrial gas mask /respirator is perfect, and any industrial cartridge as well (the R code is a plus). The most important points are the right fit, the comfort of wear, the budget. Most hazards, not speaking of domestic home fire (requiring special hoods), require common filters, smoke from wildfires, toxic smoke from industrial /chemical plant fire, volcanic ash and vog from an eruption, pesticides, ...
