What Happens On The Boat Stays On The Boat [obscure 70s soft rock vinyl]

Музыка

This 70s soft rock entry, restored via ai music magic, represented not only a tonal shift in Davey Locker’s style, but also his return to the general music scene…and eventually American Bandstand. Temporarily changing his name to Davis Lockheart and over a decade after his expulsion from the very same stage after performing My Baby Loves Sea Men, Locker found his way back to the airwaves - much to the dismay of one Dick Clark.
“About halfway through the song, I see Dick Clark go from limp to absolutely throbbing with rage,” Bandstand producer Brent Styles said in a 1982 interview about the incident. “Then Dick got up and started screaming ‘He changed his f*cking name! And it’s barely any different!” This was, of course, in reference to the famous 1959 incident when Locker was chased off the stage during the performance of My Baby Loves Sea Men - a song Clark (and some regulators) considered too lewd for television. “The beard and ample chest hair really fooled him. So you’ve got to give Locker a bit of credit.”
But just like his performance as a young man in 1959, Locker would leave the building in cuffs. “All of a sudden security arrives and wrangles the band,” Styles continued, “and all I hear is ‘THIS AIN’T OVER. I’M GONNA F*CKIN’ KILL YOU, CLARK!’ again and again. The audience was pretty stunned. But then Neil Diamond came out and sang Sweet Caroline and got things back on track. That man’s a professional.”
“Yeah, he basically smothered my career in the cradle,” Locker said soon after the incident, “but I think we can finally put this whole thing behind us. I’m not bitter. Not in the slightest.” When confronted about his alleged threats on Clark’s life, Locker said, “It’s just boys being boys, you know? Things get tense out on the water. And like I tell everyone - when I’m sailing, Dick is always welcome aboard.”

Lyrics:
I'm a sailor man
And I'm doin' what I can
When I pull up on the shore
I meet my lady, ain't she grand?
But when I'm at sea
I'm still a man, I still have needs
And sometimes I'm gone for a week or two or three
What happens on the boat stays on the boat
What happens out at sea is between you and me
What happens on a raft is just part of the craft
We're just two guys tryin' to stay afloat
So what happens on the boat
Stays on the boat
We're ten sailor men
And we're doin' what we can
And when we reach the shore,
Our ladies meet us, ain't they grand
But when we're at sea
We form a circle to be free
And beneath the sun we go to work on everyone
What happens on the boat stays on the boat
What happens out at sea is between you and me
What happens on a raft is just part of the craft
We're just ten guys tryin' to stay afloat
So what happens on the boat
Stays on the boat
We're just a couple dozen guys
Tryin'a stay alive
So happens on the boat
Stays on the boat

Surprisingly this song was deemed too macho for Navy recruitment ads and they went with the village people instead. Although not used officially every naval officer I met in life knows and sings this song for years

I remember when I was 8 years old and singing along to this as it played on the AM radio when my mom would drive me to the bus stop in 1975.

This anthem should be played at the Republican National Convention - very loudly - and a full blow-up picture of the album cover..
