Late 1960s folk music group The Humming Byrds tried to keep themselves clean of politics but when band leader James Callypso disappeared for two weeks in 1968, they couldn’t stay silent any longer. “I thought I was a gonner,” Callypso said. “After the first week, food and water were scarce. I saw a guy drinking his own urine and a lady try to sell her baby to a man 10 places higher up the queue. I wanted to make a pact with the person next to me - that we’d inform each other’s loved ones if something happened to one of us - but went I went to ask him, he was already gone.” When asked if he had any advice for those looking to renew their driver’s license, all Callypso said was, “It’s the DMV. And the DMV is hell.”

I remember the song leader at youth camp got so emotional when he sang this for talent night...hell...I remember looking up at my dad and he was tearing up also!
I miss the old story songs like this. Sad ending made me cry, tho.
