He is fluent in English, French, and Italian. In his late teens Edoardo dated Chiara Mastroianni, daughter of Marcello Mastroianni and Catherine Deneuve. In 2007 Edoardo married Sasha Alexander, an American actress who has appeared in shows like Rizzoli & Isles and NCIS, since 2007. They have two children together: a daughter named Lucia and a son named Leonardo.

Sophia Loren also has some notable relatives in her extended family. Her brother-in-law was Romano Mussolini, the youngest son of the fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, who married Maria Scicolone, Sophia's younger sister. Romano and Maria had two daughters, Elisabetta and Alessandra Mussolini. Alessandra is an Italian politician and a former actress, singer and model. She served as a Member of the European Parliament and the Italian senate. In 2004, Alessandra became the first woman to lead a political party in Italy.
