► This is Blanche Monnier, born in 1849, from a wealthy neighborhood in Poitiers in western France. A French socialite from an aristocratic and well-respected family of old noble origins, she was renowned for her physical beauty and attracted many potential suitors.
At age 25, she fell in love with an older, "penniless" lawyer, whom she desired to marry. Her mother Louise disapproved, but to no avail. Blanche's heart was true to the man of her choice. No one was prepared for the tragic future yet to come...
Her Mother was determined to prevent the marriage and together with her son plotted a heinous plan. They locked the girl in a tiny dark room in the attic of their home to force her to agree to their demands. But, she refused to forsake her true love and Blanche, vanished from public view. Considered missing, and presumed dead.
Her mother and brother had even mourned her and went on with their daily lives, all whilst hiding a terrible secret. The lawyer who she wished to marry had also died unexpectedly in 1885, and as time passed, she slowly became forgotten by society.
Then suddenly on 23 May 1901 an anonymous letter was received by an attorney which in part said as follows:
"Monsieur Attorney General: I have the honor to inform you of an exceptionally serious occurrence. I speak of a spinster who is locked up in Madame Monnier's house, half-starved and living on a putrid litter for the past twenty-five years - in a word, in her own filth."
Blanche Monnier, now a middle aged woman, was rescued by police from appalling conditions, covered in old food and feces, with bugs all around the bed and floor, weighing barely 25 kilograms. She hadn’t seen the Sun in 25 years. Terrified, Blanche, who was found lying completely naked on a rotten straw mattress, was quickly wrapped in a blanket and rushed to the hospital.
Her story sent shockwaves throughout the community as no one expected something like this to happen in a family of repute.
Her mother was arrested but she became ill shortly afterwards and died of a heart attack. Her brother Marcel Monnier, was initially convicted but later acquitted on appeal. They found that a "duty of rescue" did not exist in the penal code at that time. Marcel, would later claim that Blanche was insane, and never attempted to escape the locked and shuttered room but testimonies of several witnesses contradicted his account.
Blanche never fully recovered and continued to suffer from mental health problems. She died in a psychiatric hospital in 1913 in apparent obscurity at age 64.

The worst thing a daughter can have is a jealous mother. Truly pathetic. Most mothers are loving and proud of their beautiful daughters. Jealously was the root of this evil.

@@IrishAnnie it's wasn't jealousy because the whole family including the father mother and brother kept her locked away, it was "honour" that was the root cause of it. She was already mentally ill which was back then considered a social embarrassment, and they wanted her to marry an elite but she fell in love will a penniless lawyer hence to guard the family honour they locked her away. Even though it's 2023, we still see a lot of cases where women are t0rtured in the name of "family honour" smh

maybe they tacle this story to warn us that this should not be happening again.. somebody's daughter might happen on this kind of faith just because you don't like the man that she loves , sorry for explaining it to you, good day.
Her mother has my mother 's exact appearance ,even stranger she tried to do the same to me conspiring with my brother and sister !..I was rescued by mobile phone (I called the police )and good friends ..I am very thankful to God and technology for living in this time ,where you can call for help in tons of ways ..

@@diana457 God created me in an era when that kind of technology was available , and I was blessed also with great friends who loved and helped me through my ordeal ,that lady wasn't that lucky specially with the man she loved ,he would have tried to save her somehow or contact her or investigate the whole situation , report that something was fishy to the police..etc. but he was a coward..Last but not least , WHO you are to ask me that question in first place ??!! ..Stop interfering in others thoughts and beliefs and respect them ..I am not commenting on this tragedy and baring part of my life ,so that you come here and force your religious or thoughts on me in a very irrelevent way.. Go to other channels for that kind of debates and leave people to their own life , they are free and grown enough without you .

I have known about this story for a long time. Blanche's beauty at the time of the photo was breath-taking! In hindsight, Blanche should have agreed to all her Mother's demands just to regain her freedom, and then run far away and finally do as Blanche wished! There is also probably some truth in her brother claiming Blanche had gone insane. If you were locked in an attic, young and beautiful, for years on end, you would probably go insane too! So beautiful! So sad! At least she was found alive and her true story got out!

The before picture is very beautiful. But the picture is not Blanche. The young woman had mental issues. There is much more to this story.
What a terrible fate for this indeed very beautiful woman. I don't know if she was also a good person but no one deserves to be betrayed like this, by her own mother, no less. I think this one will haunt me even more than the previous ones. Exquisite! Thank you.

Sounds like the mother and brother were very jealous, extremely controlling and downright heartless and evil beyond comprehension. To steal the life of another and make them suffer at your hands day in and day out for that long, is extremely psychotic and they should suffer for eternity. You did a beautiful job with the photo editing and it’s fun to watch your process!!! You did her memory well.

Life is so cruel. Such a beauty blossoming in youth. To only to be subjected to such evil. I am deeply saddened by her story. Really touched my heart. I shall keep her alive too, by writing about her in my next book. An incredible animation. RIP sweetheart. You will live again. But in a much better place than this.
I'm always amazed by what a beautiful woman she was. So pure. Surely she was as kind and pure as she looks. It's one of the most disgusting horrible fate to do to someone. Enduring this literally leaves nothing left of you. Completely losing your mind and self esteem. I hope she could flee to beautiful and far places in her mind.

Her story is very sad. I can't imagine how suffered she was. Her story teaches me to be a good father when I become Father after I marry. I will take a very good care to my children. We all have treat everyone kindly because all Beings have right live their life. Thank to this podcaster. Thank from Thailand.
When I think about my own children, it’s shocking a mother could torture her child like this. It’s so against nature. Evil and so sad for a beautiful young girl. She suffered because she wanted to marry for love.
I’ve heard this story before and it always pisses me off just as much as the time before. She deserved better and I hate that nobody came to her aid sooner.

It's a very sad story. I know this story. English is difficult (for me) so I interpreted from memory! She kept her love alive. What happened to him, a poor lawyer who didn't return her love? Why? Did he not help her!? The fact that she looked at me with a happy smile at the end was my salvation... I believe that families are strangers. As individual individuals, we need spiritual independence. It's not the property of parents or siblings, so you shouldn't have excessive ties...
Wonderfull reconstruction, How could you not fall in love with her.....beautifull and loving. Took all she had, all she would have And all she could have been. The older I get the more I am convinced we live surrounded by monsters, unnoticeable, unrecognised, unconscionable.

The picture of the young lady "before" is not Blanche.
Poor girl. I imagine she may have been almost as meek as she was beautiful, to somehow able her own cruel family members to inflict this upon her. Tragically sad.

What this mother and her son did to this beauty is beyond disgusting. They stole from her her entire life. How is it two people can be so evil day in day out knowing she's just above them starving and cold under lock and key as they joyfully live their lives. Mother died, good for her, but it's terrible the son got off scott free. Because of them Blanche lost her mind, forever broken. So so sad.

How sad and at the same time kinda infuriating. Too bad her mother was such an evil person. Too bad she wasn't made to pay for her crimes. There is no meanness behind those eyes. Fresh, innocent and sweet.

How heartbreaking, and her eyes... the smile show the sadness her heart must have felt.
0:12 This photo isn’t of Blanche though lol. This girl is from a German postcard c.1914. You can tell from the fashions and quality of the photo, which is nothing like the 1870s. I don’t know if there is any known public photo of Blanche in her youth. The other commonly believed one to be Blanche is of actress Maude Fealy.

I have tried to do something similar with my computer to no avail. What you do in this video seems misleading. To just click on the image and these effects to just appear, seems impossible at best. It is more likely that you have the completed image below the original and you are just erasing the top image to reveal the one beneath. This kind of work takes hours and 1000's of points of resolution per inch and couldn't possibly be done like you show. Amazing work. Thank you.
