Well mobile balistas are broken unit which can literally destroy anything except horse archers, they're extremely effective against infantry and general units.

With even basic skill they're downright broken. There's a reason the IB mods don't include them except for SAI and RO, and those two have them at only four carts per unit, and even then they still demolish everything that can't outrange them. Especially on bridge battles, they're ridiculous.

They’re nuts. Any of those 2hp units, insanely armored units, and especially those damn Sassanid bodyguards can get shredded by these guys. It’s like beating a chess game by flipping the board.

I love how the WRE Army is not the all powerful force from the first one, you have to be creative, strategic and tactical to win. No urban cohort spam here lol

Exactly, it makes you think about the counter moves and anticipate further. Its starting to look a military genious dream. While the ERE has just powerful units, makes you less think, you just spamm cavalries and rush

Foederati infantry: Useless when the player controls the. ABSOLUTELY OP WITH INFINITE MORALE whenever the AI controls them.

Carriage ballustas is most underrated unit. They are literally ignoring armor and shielding defense, and do such a powerfull splash damage to infantry. Chariots are week against horse archers, and this is only one debilityfor them. So, in my opinion, carriage ballistas is the best ranged unit in this dlc.

Thanks for the comment. I think your argument is solid. Maybe I should try to utilize them more. In this tierlist they suffered from my overall antipathy towards siege weapons in campaign. :)

I found them to be very useful, they kill heavy infantry and cavalry with ease and if you park them behind your own infantry they can take out the Hun's best horse archers

The Limitanei are like skirmishers that aren't fast and also route after a single volley of anything slightly grazes them.

I dont know why but its simpler, faster and more fun that way for sb who doesnt have lots of time like me. Games like Attila or RTW are like work, you need to fight every battle, get used to lots of things...not fun anymore

they are best used for missile support and maybe tanking missile fire, ideally in loose formation. they are bad at doing melee damage and will easily break under pressure. avoid fighting anything significant in melee, without support.

I usually use mobile ballistas against character units. I also consider auxilia palatina very good against hordes (anti cavalry bonus and good armor), especially on bridge battles (rtw ai being what it is ;) ) .

Carriage ballista can decimate everything except the units can catch up with them, e.g light cavalry, horse archers. A unit of it can get over 300 kills if deployed wisely.

I haven't really seen any credible sources on whether morale boosts and fearsome factors stack. Like do you get multiple stacks with the same units? How about different units, e.g. Berserkers and Night Raiders?

I have to disagree with Foederati cav, having a cheap low tier cav unit is just very usefull, they are easily decent tier simply because they are cav, cheap and fairly easy to recruit, sure build Sarmatians if at all possible but Foederati are still very usefull.

they are better than having no cav at all...and are good for hunting down fleeing enemies...but they cannot fight much. they also have significant upkeep for their usefulness. better rush sarmatian auxilia and spam them instead.

People are sleeping on the carriage ballista... Those things are op af if you use them well.

archers kill horse archers kill ballista. 1 foederati cav/general, 2 archers, 2 plumbata, 2 carriage ballista will defeat EVERYTHING on a bridge battle.

Nice video. But unfortunately peasants got a big nerf in the expansion, they now provide HALF the public order bonus they used to, so they are no longer op for garrison duty. For example a 240 unit peasant provides the same public order as a 120 men unit of regular troops. So its better to recruit a 160 men limitanei unit for public order reasons. Also sarmatian aux is SSS+ tier ;) agree with the list otherwise.

scorpion s tier(its anty inf, its geting nice kill ratio), small balistas could destroy gates idk after rework, big baalistas good one cus of fun factor and using it only for taking the city first turn destroy wall then go for tower rest ammo goes for blobs

Sarmatian auxilia only good? they are the most busted unit the romans have, with armor and weapon upgrade they are almost as good as generals bodyguard in a fight plus they are fast moveing, can be recruited anywhere and are available at the start of the game they are S++. foederati cavalry should also be trash tier, its an awful unit and you can get sarmatians easily instead. foederati infantry likewise into trash tier, if you want something that can actually fight comitantenses are just better even with higher cost and limitanei are also better in combat thanks to pila while being cheaper, and speaking of limitanei, they should be S tier, they are vital for public order for any city that needs more than 1 unit.

@@qualityoldgames7721 recruit a full stack of sarmatians with armor and weapon upgrades they steamroll entire armies with little casualties, you dont even really need tactics, just deploy them in a line and order a charge, a full rout follows the charge in my experience. Peasants are great when you just need to avoid no garrison penalty but if you have actual PO issues limitanei are the most cost effective unit

Your opionions are far too extreme man, you simply cannot always have full stacks of Sarmatians and by the time you have, you've already won anyway. I mean you've no unit between trash and S tier... Foederati cav is maybe a poor unit but it's still a cheap easy cav option, easily making it decent just for the added power it gives an army. 5 vs 5 limitanei or 5 vs 4 + 1 foederati is a huge difference. And sure comitantenses fight better but that's just a more expensive and high tier unit. Foederati cav is decent for sure, limitanei and comitantenses are both good, one cheap and usefull and the other more expensive and useful and foederati inf is bad.

plumbatarii have good stamina, not good morale. their many shots for their ranged attack makes them great. Carrage ballista is an awesome unit that can destroy heavy forces with ease, and cannot be touched except by missiles. i really think sarmatian auxilia should be higher ranked. they are cost effective, easy to recruit and are devastating. there is no need for any other cav. they are melee cav with their devastating swords, while also having a good charge, good speed and good armor. also peasants have a smaller impact on public order garrison effect, making them far less useful for that role.

I don't know why but I like the saggitari equites, but you're right they are expensive and there are better mercenary units. I also don't understand why scholaes are so expensive but they are inferior to sarmatians it doesn't even make sense to use them

I agree with you. I think equites sagittarii are decent, but in my playstyle I think I utilize most heavy infantry supported by a few archers and some cav :) However, equites sagittarii are a sort of improvement to Roman roster in original Rome. Thanks for the comment.

The laptop overheated on DOTA 2 too, but these problems occur only in the summer. Predictable... lol My laptop was very decent at the end of 2007 when I bought it... lol I think that my most challenging victory was with Carthage, I've always played on very hard difficulty level (campaign and battle).

@@qualityoldgames7721 Yes, it doesn't have to be winter, but it is still too hot here in Bitola, near the Greek border in Pelagonia. But the winters can be polar sometimes... I use AI only for some insignificant battles or battles where the outcome is certain, otherwise it is very bad, wasting your army... :)

Thanks for the comment. At least nostalgia, hundreds / thousands of hours played, and quality old mechanics for me. Maybe it is a bit more fast paced than Rome 2 or Attila as well. But I agree, the game is quite old.
