I'm glad someone else is using used things, almost everything I'm using to build my tiny house (16x26, 416 square feet) is used. The windows, toilet, Sinks (both kitchen and bathroom) and tub were all bought from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, after a good cleaning and repaint with porcelain paint no one will know they are used, my kitchen cabinets (8 foot lower and 3 double door uppers) were bought from a garage sale for $25, and the 3rd one is going in my bathroom, and they are REAL wood built in the late 50's-mid 60's, once again.... after a coat of paint no one will know. The brick for my foundation piers were used bricks from a house my buddy tore down, I paid a 50 cents per brick, my neighbor was tearing down his barn and I went over and helped and he gave me a bunch of wood that was still good, I have enough for 3 of the 4 outer walls and to do my bathroom and shower with wood that basically a trade for 4 hours of labor, and once I plan it down and slap a coat of paint on it it will be good as new. the 4th wall is going to be the back wall so I'm thinking about just doing corragated metal the same green color as my roof. The flooring is going to be mid grade laminate flooring and my bathroom floor is going to be vinyl self stick tiles and i'm going to put a coat of poly on top of them. I've budgeted 10k for my build.

That’s amazing, should film the process to show that it’s possible to build something beautiful on a budget. Older pieces are built to last unlike nowadays so a fresh coat of paint and a new screw here and there it’ll be just like new. The full cabin build interior and exterior was $5,000 and the landscape was $2,000. So we spent a total of $7,000. We’ve been open with Airbnb for two weeks and have made $1,000 so far. The ROI on this tiny cabin is going to be amazing for years to come!

@@TheDoerDuo I'm not using mine as an ARBNB, I'm going to live in mine full time when it's done. My 10k budget also includes digging a small lagoon and solar power. I've thought about filming it but I've already gotten the shell built, I guess I could film the the repainting of everything and explain where and how I got everything and the after it's built footage.

I wish I can make my wife to help me like that!👍

I love the realism. Most other channels show how the couple gets along and their isn't tense or annoyed moment's. Keep it up!!!!

I was gonna say the same thing! Lol. Reminds me of how my brother and his ex wife talked. They got really short really easily. I do think a lot of those couples who never fight or argue. Really are like that though. Some aren’t of course. But not everyone talks with contempt instantly like they do lol. That’s true life though for some. Some people just annoy each other. Hopefully the cabin fixes everything 😊 Nature’s a beautiful thing!!

This was our first build and we did it as cheap as possible. Maybe on a future build we will add gravel first. Learning as we go.

We didn’t end up needing the middle support because the cabin is so small and yes, we have treated lumber.

I truly don't care. I'm not trying to prove anyone right or wrong but I'm pretty sure not all the lumber is treated. Those 6x6 beams appeared to be pressure treated but the 2x6s (or 8s used at the beginning of framing weren't. I deal with lumber on a weekly basis and treated lumber, whether fire or pressure, will always have a different color than standard untreated lumber. Again, I don't care. I'm not here to critique. Hope the cabin is doing amazing these days.

Really enjoyed this video! We have doing a lot of research on Maine and we will be visiting Southern Maine soon. We are hoping to move there as soon as school is out in May 2022 so we can finally have some land to built a cabin or treehouse with our kids. Any suggestions on areas to look at (doesn't have to be Southern Maine)?

I’m glad you enjoyed the video! We moved to Maine 7 years ago and love it. There is a little something for everyone. Southern Maine is the most populated area and definitely the most expensive so it really depends on your price range. We live on the Midcoast about an hour north of Portland and found 26 acres with a house for a pretty reasonable price. Carrabassett valley area has a lot of land for sale and usually with gorgeous mountain views. It’s definitely worth a look. Good luck, I think you’ll love it here!

I've lived in Maine my whole life,cheapest areas to live, land wise is in Aroostook County, Penobscot County, piscataquis County and some of Washington County everything else is expensive, especially Southern Maine and western Maine near Greenville

Make sure you use structural nails or screws when hanging the joist hangers. I can't tell, but it looks like you used regular off the shelf screws. Regular screws don't have the shear load to carry the weight of the joist. I've never seen a joist hanger screw without a hex head. That being said, I bet you'll be just fine.

Hello, I got the idea from the Bushradical videos also, I have been searching high and low for plans to build this. Did you work from plans to construct the cabin? Can you point me to where I could find some, or would you be willing to sell them if so? Great video, it’s further inspiring me to build my own cabin this year!

I can totally relate! We just wrote down all of the wood that he used and followed the video step by step for the exterior build. As for the interior we watched a ton of different KZread videos for things like the walls, windows and flooring. I wish he had plans too because it would have made the build a lot easier. Good luck to you! We definitely learned a lot and had fun. It’s pretty cool building something for yourself, there’s nothing quite like it!

Thank you! You should definitely film. We loved seeing other KZreadrs build their cabins and we took so much knowledge and instruction from their videos to build ours. We don’t have any building experience and didn’t follow any building plans just KZread videos.

How much snow do you get on a yearly average. What's the frost table there as I see you're building the cabin just on the pads.

It looks like we get an average of 50-70 inches per year. We have a lot of snow on the ground currently and it seems to be holding up pretty well so far. Whatever happens to this cabin will be a learning experience since this is our very first build. Nothing we can do to change it now.

@@TheDoerDuo 26 acres!!! Are you serious?! I think I’ve heard land is more affordable there. I’d like to hear your story how and why you have 26 acres. Both of you look so young. Amazing you could afford that at such a young age. That’s a huge piece of land. Any plans for using it? I’m much older than each of you and can barely afford land in Canada. Land prices have been skyrocketing so much there. I’m looking for my land now, but haven’t made a purchase yet.

It was a mix of working our tails off saving every penny and living way below our means. We were also in the right place at the right time. The previous owner bought another house and had to sell it quickly so he didn’t have to carry two mortgages so we definitely got it for a deal! It’s impossible to find anything decently priced nowadays. We are currently building a tiny a frame to use as another Airbnb and that’s about it. We want to keep the land in its natural state for the most part.

@@TheDoerDuo Thanks for sharing. Definitely, living well below your means is often the only way to get ahead. I know all about that - been living it my whole life. Then, timing can for sure work in your favor if the stars are aligned and luck is on your side. I’m working on timing if such a thing is possible. Most natural is the best way to go. Respect the land and wildlife. It’s my way. Making progress, slow but sure.

We’ve been together 12 years. We are a very real and transparent couple and don’t try to hide the fact that it’s not all butterflies and rainbows especially when building a cabin which is no walk in the park.

I appreciate the concern but working on a project together such as this can be stressful (we’ve been together 13 years) and occasionally we bicker which I’m sure the vast majority of other couples do we just wanted to be completely open and transparent about it. If anything I (the woman) am a piece of work and 99% of the time he’s the sweet one.
