We Built an Off Grid Tiny Cabin: Part 2

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Tiny cabin build (Part 2) TIMELAPSE. The exterior of our off grid tiny cabin is complete! In this video you'll see how we did it from start to finish with timelapse included.
You can find (Part 1) Off Grid Tiny Cabin Build: Clearing the Land, Processing Wood and Finishing Foundation here:
[ • We Built an Off Grid T... ]
As mentioned in the previous video we are total amateurs. We have made our fair share of mistakes but they were great learning opportunities and we've come a long way. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of @bushradical and @girlinthewoods with their cabin build videos. What an inspiration!
Thank you for following along on this journey with us and we're looking forward to getting the interior started!

    On the front of your building, your siding ends above the OSB floor, so there's potential for water to get into the ends of the OSB. One option would have been longer sheets of siding, though your local lumber yard might not have had it. Another thing you can do now is to add some metal flashing. For example, a 4" piece of aluminum flashing slid 2" under the siding, overlapping 2" down on the surface, that would be a great way to protect that area. You can cover it back up with the trim you're using right now.

    Yeah for some reason the siding ended up being too short and all they had were 8ft. That’s a great tip, we definitely don’t want any water getting in! We’re total amateurs so any advice helps.

    You know that sound you get when either the drill is not straight or the bit your using is the wrong one for the screw. Bite the bullet and get yourself an Impact driver. As for that overlap at the bottom of your wall boards you could get a metal flashing which will go under the wall covering and over the wood. Then you will just have to paint the bottom boards. Just a thought. If I remember rightly a normal windowsill angle is 22.5 degrees. that will not only cover the bottom of the windows but also that wall sheeting so it sheds water..

    @@TheDoerDuo Often, the ‘negative’ comments I believe are from people who simply want to be helpful in their own way (?) . Of course, you already know you can study building science and make improvements next time. I wouldn’t let the negative comments bother you at all. Just water off a duck’s back. Of course your cabin isn’t ‘perfect’, but it’s your first one. It’s much better than a tent. Haha. Your goal was to build a cabin, not the Buckingham Palace. Everyone always has an opinion on how to do it better. That’s fine. Let people make those comments. No big deal.

    Désolée d’écrire en français, mais je me pose Une question. Votre Tini-house ne repose QUE sur cinq piliers de bois ??? , sans fondation solide en béton armé. Par contre je salue votre courage et votre détermination. Bravo.👏🏻👏🏻🎄🎄. Félicitations.

  • @TheDoerDuo

    @TheDoerDuo

    2 жыл бұрын

    Merci ! Oui, les 5 piliers en bois reposent sur 59 kg de dalles de ciment. L'habitacle n'est qu'un 10x12 et l'extérieur est fait de revêtement en t1-11 qui pourrirait probablement s'il était placé directement sur le sol. Si nous construisions quelque chose de plus grand et de plus cher, nous le poserions probablement sur une fondation en béton.
