Some great classic rock I hear in the background
it's really amazing, I usually make it in a place surrounded by big and leafy trees, in winter...
That's a beautiful little cabin that you've built there.

Did you insulate the floor? I didn't see that step of floor construction. It's a beautiful location for a cabin. Stone and copper are a gorgeous combo. :) Nice job.
@northofthenotch
Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks! We loved the stone and copper. No we didn’t insulate the floor, I was on the fence about it. It’s such a small space to have to heat so I didn’t think it was necessary, but it might have been a good idea, I guess we will see haha.
Beautiful cozy build and great surroundings . Was it a metal roof, would have like to have seen more on the building of the roof . Great job guys ! 💯👏👏👏

Just an fyi, your chaps are not going to stop that electric saw if it goes into your leg. chainsaw chaps are designed to clog up the clutch of a gas powered chainsaw, electrics do not have a clutch. Also when you're downing a tree, if you're going to run away from the tree, running 10 o clock or 2 o clock are safer options.
Very nice looking

Good job nice cabin. I like the homemade bunk beds, but I am curious about the crank out windows why you put them in upside down cause the crank goes on the bottom. I mean don't get me wrong I don't really see anything structurally wrong with it, I've just never seen nobody do it upside down.. and I'm also curious what did you do to finish your Corners off on your exterior?
@northofthenotch
Жыл бұрын
Good question, I wanted them on top so that I could have a shelf on the bottom. Mechanically they work fine. Also, I didn’t realize that that was upside down until after I installed it haha
Very nice!! What was the mixture of finish you used for the siding? Thank you
@northofthenotch
Жыл бұрын
Equal parts pine tar, turpentine, and boiled linseed oil. I ended up using 3 quarts of each for the siding.

Nicely Done! how do you like the chainsaw? do you prefer electric over gas?
@northofthenotch
Жыл бұрын
I do, but bigger trees, or if I had to do a bunch of work, I’d choose gas over electric.
👍👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷
So the year this was started was 1/1/2000 …. Wow … the camera must have cost a shit load …. That’s very , very good quality … 23 year old video with that resolution is fantastic

LOL they obviously didnt set the date/time on the camera
I am curious as to why you burned the bottom part of some of the logs. Is that to prevent them from rotting when you put them in the ground?
@northofthenotch
Жыл бұрын
Yes it helps with rotting. Partially as a waterproofing agent and also to deter bugs from eating it.
Which Notch are you North of??? Crawford? Franconia?

I was wondering the same. I used to live in Lancaster
When using a chainsaw u don't have to do saw motion like it was a handsaw u were using. Are u quite a novice in woodland?
@jokerswang
Жыл бұрын
I do it to check for binding, if you're cutting a downed log its good to make a sawing motion to check if the log is pinching so you dont get the saw stuck. completely pointless doing it while making your face cuts and back cuts but its a little electric saw so i'd get impatient with it and do the same thing lmao
Isnt the paper suppose to go outside the sheeting on the outside wall?
@northofthenotch
Жыл бұрын
I didn’t do sheeting, just studs, housewrap and siding, so in this case it went on the outside face of the studs.

Bro I think your date on your camera is wrong …. I finally put it together 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂…. I’m sitting hear watching this being amazed at the video quality… but your videos are dated in the year 2000 …. Lmao 😂 … I’m looking at your ATV and I’m like that’s not from 2000 …. Then you pull out a cordless DEWALT CHAINSAW 😂😂😂😂😂 ….. yea they didn’t have dewalt tools in 2000 that I remember
Why do you use electric chainsaw why don't you use gas-driven chainsaw is it because it's environmentally friendly very strange
@northofthenotch
Жыл бұрын
I just find it easier to use electric for smaller jobs. Also it makes way less noise. Nothing wrong with gas though, I have one as well.
Sorry bud! Too amateur for me! Bye
It would have been nice if you installed hardware cloth before laying the deck boards! That would minimize the mice issue down the road. 🤔
