    Always! Be sure to waterproof between the concrete slab and the board placed on it. Without waterproofing, the bottom board will constantly draw moisture from the concrete and become damp, which will cause accelerated formation of fungus and rot, no matter what impregnation this board is impregnated with.

If you see what can be fixed, tell him in advance so that later it won’t be too late. this is physics. physics doesn't give a damn whether a homeowner wants to save money on waterproofing. physics will do its job.

    When i was a boy i used to love spending Saturdays helping my grandfather with various projects, rowboat building, log-splitting, various small carpentry projects ideal for a 10 -13 year old and 70 year old to undertake together. He measured twice, cut once... i had the fetch and carry with the boundless enthusiasm of a child. Covid lockdown allowed me time otherwise spent commuting to work with my 12 year old son. Built a garden shed together, raised brick flower beds, patio, etc. Too many men (and especially boys) have lost the joy of creating things with our hands. I remember my wife telling my son that he'd be better with a hammer if he spent less time on his Nintendo. He went from his nickname 'on site' being 'Lightning' (never struck the same place twice) to 'The Human Rivetter ' in about a fortnight. Great times, real bonding, proud of what we built together and protective of it. We need not to do as much as practicable ourselves to affirm our identities and values.

    Absolutely love the fact you put all this together in one video. It's the worst having to watch several long drawn out videos to see less than what you did. As someone who plans to do this same thing with my house and know the amount of work behind it (I was surprised when I saw you finish that concrete by yourself), this is extremely satisfying to see be done as well as impressive. Great video, great job, super stoked.

    This book was a great resource for ideas, practical advice kzread.infoUgkx-b91_bYU48sOwHX-XC49tRRXRxcnOmZm and pro tips I purchased the plans for the 10'x16' colonial and used them for the basics and made my own modifications. I built my shed for storage and lawn equipment, but decided to sheath and side it in case I ever wanted to add insulation and turn it into a shop or bunkhouse. I poured over this book all winter while I planned and found it to be the all-around best shed book out there.

    Great job on your shed, especially doing the work by yourself. Couple of questions I had 1) square washers on the sole/sill plates, 2) appears rafters are built as trusses (engineered) or a hybrid rafter system, 3)outlooks framed at gable ends appear to be nailed on putting fastened nails in shear, 4) if OSB wall sheathing is for shear value what is fastener spacing (edge & field), 5) caulking indoor perimeter sole/sill plates? Again, props for a great informative video and a beautiful shed!

    Everyone take a moment and think about 11:10. That is the moment of "can I catch it" being replaced with "the ground will" logic. Always remember the ground will catch whatever you drop because it's not worth getting hurt trying to prove yourself. It's saved my family's feet, hands, etc. a number of times. We've also been injured not following that rule the same number of times.

    I’ve been doing construction for 27 years trimmed out houses for 15 years built. Biggest garage was 2800 ft.² attached to a 1300 foot house and the attention to detail on this is very good, only thing I would’ve done different next time when you do, the gable ends on the first sheet horizontal take the second sheets they ended up that way it ties the studs in the wall in with the studs at the gable end and it locks everything together makes it for a much much stronger wall other than that it looked amazing

    It's not recommended to put a tarp under your concrete foundation. Usually, you would put graval or rock down so the water would drain and not bild up. Otherwise, it could compromise the slab, making it settle, making it unleval, or even crack.

  • @doc2nd2

    @doc2nd2

    12 күн бұрын

    Actually, he did right. That was a moisture barrier to minimize moisture seeping up into the slab. The problem was the fill. You’re correct in using washed stone or coarse comparable sand. The material seemed to be topsoil and was very clumpy and not compacted properly. The positive side is it was placed over undisturbed soil. Over time subsidence could be a problem after a couple of freeze thaw cycles leading to slab subsidence. It’s gonna crack. That’s just the nature of concrete, but the major concern is subsidence. We all, however are (or should be) constantly learning, and the only bad mistake is the one we don’t learn from. Otherwise I’ll say it was a fantastic build! I especially love the TV idea!

    Best DIY video I have ever seen. Production was spot on from showing the close-up after each step. Hands down best tutorial I have ever seen. But the music dude....come on. 😂
