Because he had 5/6 good seasons and then went to shite and burnt out by 25 yet was still getting started for England and United when there were better players in better form. He went from scoring regulary outfield to only scoring penalties and being extremely lazy on the pitch. The fans didn't appreciate the laziness only the deluded ones that thought he was the player he used to be. Obviously you don't expect the player to step down to the bench or move on but the managers should have done this at England and United for the last 6/7 years of his carrier. Without the amount of penalties he would have not got near the England record.

Remember the name, Wayne Rooney

No player ever has played so well FOR the team defending deep to poaching goals than Rooney.

Rooney had a brilliant career but I think he could well of been an all time world great with the same attitude as a Ronaldo ! But you can’t fault him all time united and England goalscorer , that doesn’t happen to average players !
