I live in the U.S,& the first time I saw him was when he was playing for England ( Vs Greece or Turkey? In 2003) And I didn't have a clue who he was but he grabbed my attention& I asked a young England fan ( in a Pub) who he was& he stared at me with a puzzled look& said ' That's Rooney' amazed that I hadn't heard of him! And then I saw him playing for United in 2004 ( when I was back in England) and we know the rest! Yep he was a special Talent!

You give him a chance to get past and he’s off. If you hurt any of his team mates, Rooney is in front with hands on you, and a good few mouthful descriptives as well. Beware to keep your feet together after that point. Man! I miss this guy!

@@Phil_Theekrit a scouser is someone who is born in Liverpool and I support Liverpool which is Manchester United’s biggest rivals so I have every right to dislike Rooney, but because he is also a fellow scouser I highly respect him regardless of who he plays for if that makes sense.

Arguably the best player in the world for a year or two. Against Messi and Ronaldo. Really special player.

We haven’t been able to replace him since. I miss those days.

Most people look past Mike Tyson’s transgressions because he brought the world joy when he clobbered his opponents. He was a ticking time bomb in his 20’s. =Total beast from 18-23 before skills started to diminish due to lack of training and having too many distractions in his life along with leeches and gold fighters like his ex-wife. Then was convicted of raping a woman and was sentenced to 6yrs in prison served 3+ yrs. and became a Muslim before being paroled and released. He was a shell of his former self and even the goons Don King lined up for him to pummel on his way back to a title fight gave him trouble before he fought Evander Holyfield for the title and was DQ’d for attempting to eat Holyfield’s ear. He was a deranged madman that need help. Apparently he’s found it and is in a better place.

Euro 2004… if he’d not gotten hurt I swear he would’ve won that tournament for us single handedly.

Rooney was my goat pure world class

Even when Rooney was off his game he still gave everything for the team, played his heart out, something most of our current group should learn from. When he was at his best he was an absolute beast. United legend!

Rooney was underrated. He actually shouldered the burden of the team in order to achieve glory. That’s the reason why Sir Alex was fine to part company with other star players but not Rooney.

You have to put the respect on Rooney's name to get a hat trick on your debut for a club that should hate you, in the biggest club competition in the world at 18 and take the ball of a legend and do something with it was special, i can still remember that night. Honestly he is probably the greatest striker I've ever watched live consistently. Granted, Ronaldo was around Tevez, Torres, Suarez etc but to do it in the most competitive league in europe from 16 and consistently be an 8 out of 10 player every game 👏.

Great work ethic on the pitch. Off it? That's questionable, he was noticeably fatter every time he returned from an injury or pre season. Probably why he faded badly in the 2nd half of his career

He is the epitomy of a born winner, he has thst edge to him that so many players dont have. He can go and win a game on his own. World class to be fair, and thats coming from a Liverpool fan

There were so many versions of Wayne Rooney during his career. The angry youngster smashing ball, players and everything in his path was something special. At one point he was even considered better than Cristiano, as he adapted more quickly to Utd.

I was at this game. Can’t remember many other specific games I went to but this is probably the old Trafford moment I remember the most.

I remember this game like it was yesterday , I just started my second year at college and watched this game on ITV after . I was so amazed by this kid, he had so much natural talent at the time, belief ,strength , determination and aggression. I said it at the time , hes like a region Gazza but could play across the front three of any team . There's not any players that have all that these days at such a young age.

I'll never forget that first match! Talk about Superboy!!!!

Life long United fan 50+ years,I’ve had the pleasure to watch some Truly great talents,but in terms of Absolute Desire to win at all costs Wayne would be in my top three with Keane and Robbo.

I still think he's one of the most underrated footballer of all time. He was unstoppable for years and years. Week in, week out.

For me, Rooney is the perfect exemple of English football ; strong, hard as nails, hard working and fighting spirit.

A boulder shouldered wrecking ball ,who could score any goal ,make any pass ,outpace and outmuscle most defenders ,and rivalled Keane for passion ,Shearer for finishing and Tevez for tenacity. Possibly the most complete footballer of all time,capable of scoring banging volleys ,yet also tracking back for goal line clearances. No 3 in the M10 v CR7 generation.

He got taught to be a team player and it brought trophies. I loved young Rooney who didn’t give a fuck but mature Rooney dragged United to trophies.

I remember that goal he scored against seasoned Arsenal (my team) as a 16-17 year old for Everton.....I had to applaud him....the audacity of it....the pure skill...what a player

I was at that game what a nite that’s when we had a great team ⚽️ he scored a hat trick in his first game at Old Trafford

Some people forget how much of a real talent Rooney was his Utd exit was abit sad they treated him like nothing always a Utd legend

Rooney provided more assists than anyone and still scored over 34 goals. He’s underrated and people need to appreciate how great he was.

Wayne Rooney is basically that one kid in absolutely every school that could just do whatever he wanted with a football and nobody could stop him, except instead of being like every other version of that kid he decided too knuckle down and actually work for it, true talent meets hard work and you end up with players like Rooney.

I always considered Rooney as that baby-face little bit overweight guy being very lucky to score something now and then. Looking back now, he was a monster of a striker both for ManU and for England international.

Agreed that he peaked early. Burnt bright and then burnt out. By 30 he was a shadow of the player he’d been. Apparently he didn’t train enough and never did any gym work, smoked, poor diet.

I remember being 13 watching this thinking wow at that age he was an absolute animal what a legend love Rooney forever thanks for the memories 👊

Man listening to that part talking about how he knew he had to impress really makes one wonder what on earth happened to our scouting post Fergie. Some of our newer signings couldn't look less bothered to impress

At 17 and 18 he was up there with Ronaldo Nazario. CR7 and Leo improved a lot after 18 and surpassed him but Wazza arrived on the scene fully developed.
