Cantona, Keane, Scholes, Giggs just to mention a few are all bigger Man Utd heroes than Rooney.. Some fans never forgave him for holding a gun to Ferguson's head and twice saying he wanted to leave. Was a great player but last few seasons he was very poor.. 300k a week??

let's just not forget if Wayne Rooney was a striker for his whole career he would have smashed that record long time ago he would probably be on 500 goals or something but because he was selfless and played anywhere he broke the record late. I love Wayne Rooney what a legend 2nd highest premier league goalscorer. 3rd highest premier league assists. Man Utd greatest goalscorer. England greatest goalscorer. For me the best Man Utd and England Player I have ever seen. He deserves a statue outside Old Trafford because many players would have left soon as Ferguson retired but he stayed till we was on the up again and I respect that. There's only one Wayne Rooney. Prove them critics wrong wazza and I hope you come out of retirement for England.

I don't think that playing as a striker is what makes you score lots of goals. It's the strikers instinct and awareness which allows you to do that, and Wazza had that kind of an insight in the game. He had qualities of a midfielder with his passing, qualities of a striker with his finishing. He could even play as a half-winger with such abilities. What that means to me is that he would and had preferred a free role in the attacking third with the pace, technique and power he's got. So I disagree that he would've scored more goals had he played as a striker all the time, he could even score less. He needed that free role behind the striker, as a second striker that often drops deep.

@@jafsantos Yeah dude I see your point and his. Obviously, if you're far from the goal you won't be able to score as much. What I mean by the second striker is not the guy who actually does all that "backing up to the opponent" or "asking the ball to feet". To me it gives the sense of a player who wants to help the build up play a bit deeper and with Rooney's game knowledge, perspective, insight, whatever you'd call it, he could set up the play and be in the goal scoring area at the right time to bang it in too. I don't think the guy was ever meant to be the lone striker right up top. Of course he had his games as the lone striker and did well with them too, but where he really stood out was the second striker role that I just described. (But I also gotta say that playing him as a midfielder is really trashing all his goalscoring capabilities too. So what I'm describing is not entirely a midfielder or entirely a striker. He was something in between right on great balance.)

Tribute cannot get better than this. Wayne Rooney through the years at MUFC, seen it all & won it all at club level. Farewell Champ! United Legend. Thank You Wazza.
