Just how GOOD was Wayne Rooney Actually?
Wayne Rooney was a finishing specialist, everyone knows that, but how good was he?
Third episode of a documentary series where I plan to present all the greatest players of all time and then give them a score so a ranking of the best players can be created. In this episode we take on Wayne Rooney, Manchester united legend, among many others like David Beckham, but how does he stack up among the greatest of all time.

Mate, mentality is an easy 12 out of 10!! He was a beast and never gave up! He was a warrior more than every other player! The only way to stop him is to cut off his legs, and honestly, i doubt even that would prevent him from fighting, running and working for his team! He wasn´t a showoff, he was a team player and a hard worker!! He just didn´t give up and helped his team whereever he could and more than that!

I personally think a lot of Rooney flair and street baller instincts were trained out of him. Although 2010 was his best season on paper, as a technical player 2008 was his real peak. If he had gone to Spain at some point in his early 20s, I honestly think he would've developed more. The English fire in his belly would've always been there regardless of where he played.

Was pathetic when the English media tried to blame Ronaldo for Rooney’s red card and the wink was him acknowledging to the bench he understood the new tactics playing against 10 men. Rooney was a great player unfortunately for him he was unfit for both 06 & 10 world cups, so he didnt perform to his potential which hurt his reputation. I thought he played alright in 2014 World Cup but England failed again and Rooney was past his best. Love this series! when I get the chance I’ll watch all the vids.

It was sadly tainted towards the end because of his avaricious a-hole of an agent turning his head and tainting his reputation at the club; but without doubt, historically, one of the top 10 finest *ever* home-grown English footballers.

Rooney had an amazing career by any standard. He could have reached even bigger heights, had it not been for three injuries at key moments in his career, in Euro 2004 quarter-finals against Portugal, in 2006 with Manchester United against Chelsea in one of the last few games of the Premier League season, just before the 2006 World Cup (even though he made it, he was not at his best during that tournament), and in March 2010, while he was in the best form of his career, and a canditate for the Ballon D'or, he got injured in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Bayern Munich, and after that, he still had moment of greatness, but he never reached the same level of consistency after that. Oh, and all his injuries were foot injuries, by the way. Thanks for the video !

@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT He injured his metatarsal in 2006 and was rushed back for the WC, same in 2010 too. His pace and power started to reduce after that and the whole England team was a total shambles from 2012 onwards. He was always decent in qualifying, and the one tournament he played uninjured was 2004 where he was sensational.

Not sure why you excluded Scholes, he had 12 goals that season, he was the third most goal scorer.

I am watching this a year later but I will disagree with some things. For far too long Rooney had to accommodate another player as the star of the team. When he was young it was Ruud Van Nistelrooy, then Cristiano Ronaldo. It was not until Ronaldo left that he took centre stage, only for him have to give center stage to RVP some years later and yet he shined through all of it managing to score high number of goals and make himself useful to the team. That counts as being a tough cookie and will make me give him a 8 or even 9 out of thing. Considering that Ronaldo and Ruud couldn't even accomodate each other. In another timeline with another player, the player would have left to take centre stage at another team.

Didn't know Rooney lost a Puskás worthy Bicycle kick goal to Neymar's solo goal, just like CR7's bicycle kick lost to Salah's solo goal, though it's actually the other way around since Wayne Rooney scored his 1st: just goes to show they value a dribbling much higher than anything else.

Is there a legal/copyright reason for not showing the relevant footage to certain moment that you refer to? Rooney was an early peaker. He was way better than CR7 at a young age. Obviously Ronaldo ever so slightly improved somewhat after 😁. But that youthful Rooney was absolutely devastating. Such wonderful memories he provided us United fans

You've definitely misrepresented Wayne Rooney here mate, first touch and ball control should be 8, trophy cabinet should be 7/10 with 5 premier leagues, mentality makes sense, consistency should at the very least be 6, and he was a much better dribbler than 6 out of ten should be 7, icon factor is 7 as well!

Injury also ruin his career in 2009 2010 2011 2012 he play so many match with injury. So many legend like matthäus angry with sir alex for playing him when he injured. Also he so unselfish as well he play with average player when giggs and scholes retired. If he play for city he will score more goal.

In my opinion, they weren't better players than Wayne Rooney. They just had different styles. Hence different selling points. Rooney could play Defence, he could play 4, 8, 10, 9, second striker position and even fill in as a winger. So Exceptional.
