He was really good when playing with quick and smaller partner for England. Too bad it's almost the end of Beckham at that time, Becks, Crouch, and another striker could have been the answer to the over complication England got from the superstar central midfielders and make-believe left wingers of that era.

Another story about Gazza when he was at Glasgow Rangers. Rangers signed Rino Gattuso straight from the academy at Perugia, he arrived with very little clothes and Gazza noticed this, he took him shopping and spent a £1000 on him and told Reno the money came from the club and he was told to do it, Reno found out later the money was from his own pocket. Asked later what he thought of Gazza he thought for a moment and said brilliant player and also said with the way he acted "crazy bastard" also a heart of gold.

J R6 Massively... Owen, Fowler and Rooney all name him as the best partner. Alongside being the best at what he did (hold up play, assisting partners, working his arse off) he also scored 130 Premier League goals and got 62 caps. He was a big part of that 5-1 against Germany including bagging a goal himself. Shame he’s such a punch line for the fickle among us! 😔

Easy to see why. Strikers are generally selfish, goal scorers always wanting to be top dog. Heskey was the opposite but still a striker, so they basically liked playing with someone who let them be the focal point. They wouldn't like playing with a Ronaldo or Messi because they'd steal the limelight.
