Watercolor and Mixed Media Abstract | 2024 - 23

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video is all about texture! How I create it and how I make it stand out. Beginners and more seasoned painters unite! Let's practice building layers of color and have fun experimenting with both texture and color. But first, let's explore some of the beautiful sights and sounds of nature - is there anything more relaxing? Well, maybe a close second is grabbing your paint supplies and making time some mindful creativity.

Bladderwort bring me so much joy! I often loose myself out in nature. I love watching the Osprey mess with the Eagles along the dwarf pines - it is so silent you can hear their wings. Hi Gabrielle 👋 Thank you for taking us on the nature tour of your beautiful yard! I love all of the different flowers, they are gorgeous! 😍 I can see, and hear, why you enjoy being outside so much, it's so beautiful and peaceful! Garou obviously enjoys it too! The different textures in this painting are fantastic! The different ways you applied the watercolor ground adds so much interest! Of course the gold was the icing on the cake! 😉🌟😊 I hope you're having a good week! I've decided that I spend way too much time on KZread, so I've been trying to be more selective in what I watch. Isn't it just the easiest thing to get swept into watching just one more video?! I get it!! I understand and feel thankful my channel is still one you tune into when you choose to watch 💕🤗 (Ever watch The Social Dilemma? Good food for thought right there... 😉) I've been spending lots of time outdoors and tending to my health. It's so good to slow things down and get offline and more grounded to the beauty of life! I'm glad you enjoyed my little garden tour ☺️ Every day, my plants grow so much it just about blows my mind! It's so exciting to see the progress and I'm having fun connecting with my garden buddies. (Not digging the ticks though 🤪😂). Textures make me so happy!! I'm so glad you enjoyed watching this process too! Do you use texture mediums in your artwork? I hope life is treating you well sweet friend! Lots of love is heading your way 💕🤗

    Thank you so much Claire ❤️🤗 I'm not sure Kremer Pigments ship to Australia, but hopefully the watercolor ground is accessible to you and there are no doubt beautiful iridescent paints available there as well (maybe from CSY Art Gallery?). As for the sand, I would definitely give it a try because I LOVE this idea! 😁 I do think you'd have to either mix it with your wc ground or add on top and then add a wash of gesso over the sand to make sure your paint can adhere to it. I hope you do give it a try and please let me know how you make out. Yay for creative "science" 😁💕🎨

  • @gabrielleannacormierart

    Thank you! ☺️💕 Watercolor ground can dry relatively quickly when it's not applied too thick. But, the way I apply it, I like to give it a good 12 to 24 hours to dry before I move on. This is for once the entire application is complete, not for every new application. What I like to do is get that going and then work on something else in the meantime. I know it's hard to be patient and sometimes we just don't have that much time to wait. By working on something else, I keep myself mindfully in the present moment and next thing you know, I can start working on my textured piece. ☺️

    Hi Linda ❤️🤗 Thank you so much for your kindness!! 💕 And for the great question! Watercolor ground is a medium usually used to make surfaces less porous than watercolor paper act like watercolor paper. I don't really find it works all that well for that purpose, but boy do I love using it to create textures on my WC paper! 🥰 The art stones are something I discovered while exploring different ways I could create textures when I paint with acrylics. They work really well with watercolors too, so I thought why not ☺️ I'm so glad you enjoyed this video! Thank you for being here with me 💕

    Awe 🥰 Thank you so much for making me smile with your kind words and enthusiasm ☺️ I must say, I have never tried to scan these paintings, but I do think taking a picture of the artwork with a good quality camera and the right lighting would probably help to capture what's on the paper and then I'd have it printed. It will never be exactly the same as the original of course, but that's why your original could be worth more 😉 I hope this helps! 🤗💕

    Hey Gabrielle I have a question for you: I'm having issues when I apply white pens onto watercolor. I've used white gel pen, white posca and white acrylic markers and so far none of these have stayed white. They all turn pink in a matter of seconds. I know this is a bleed-through going on and so far the bleed through hasn't been a real problem anyhow. But it sure would be nice to apply white paint pen dots onto watercolor painting and have the dots actually stay white! So, oh great seer of knowledge, can you fill me in on what would actually work great on this conundrum??

  • @gabrielleannacormierart

    @gabrielleannacormierart

    14 күн бұрын

    Hi Jim ☺️ That's a really good question and one that's got a bit of a long answer. The first thing I will say is that your white pens and markers will probably not have this issue will all of your watercolors. Some watercolors are more pigmented than others and this is usually when I see this issue. I also see this issue when I apply a lot of pigment (which is most of the time 😂) on my paper. (I don't seem to have this issue when I apply white ink over my blue watercolors, but it almost is always an issue when I'm working with reds... When I let the paint dry longer before adding my white ink, sometimes this will help. I tend to go over my whites with some gesso to brighten them up, but I know this is not ideal (wouldn't it be nice if we could just do it once and walk away? Yes!! I agree!). So, one thing I think might help is applying a spray fixative over your painting before adding your white ink. This of course would mean you would have to be done adding watercolors or feel satisfied that you don't want to change anything in your watercolors already on the paper. For me, this usually would not present a problem because by the time I started adding white details with ink, etc. I'm done painting. That's the best I can offer and I hope this helps! Thank you for being here with me and making the time to reach out. 🤗
