How to Create Abstract Art Using an Intuitive Painting Process | Watercolors and Mixed Media

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I loved this painting so much, I wanted it to the first class I offered on my website. And then, life asked me to share it here with you instead. There was quite a bit of footage I needed to edit in order to shorten it and I did my best to show you as much as possible of what I considered to be essential parts of my process. I love creating with texture SO much!! And it's fun that I get to share my passion for watercolor and texture here, with you all. I hope you enjoy this process as much as I did.

Here’s a list of the materials I used for this painting: (*** I now have the ability to monetize my site. This means I can include links to the products I use and when you make a purchase using some of these links I will get a small commission. ( This applies only to the Amazon links I have included as I am an Amazon Associate. ) You won't pay extra for doing this and you will help me earn a little bit of money along the way, so I can continue doing this work. Please note that I will only ever add links to products that I actually like and use. Thanks in advance!***)

Your style of painting with watercolor has saved my brain. I have a form of epilepsy that has affected speech area of my brain. Since I was very small my ability to express my thoughts has been slightly difficult. Im now in my 60s and no longer feel like writing so much. Drawing was always my preferred mode of expression. After many off and on classes in art over the last 40 years I felt trapped by all the rules. Your recent videos have brought me back to the natural realm where I feel free to explore again. Sorry if this sounds dramatic but it’s true. Thank you.

That's awesome! I have always felt trapped by the "rules" as well. I am trying to, and hopefully sharing that it's not only okay, but super freeing to let go of those! That is really the way to grow 😉.

I feel very touched and honored that we can connect in this way and free ourselves from the rules that bind us creatively and in other ways. 💕 Art, especially free flowing art , has been and continues to be so healing for me. My heart smiles knowing it’s doing something good for you too. I appreciate and am so thankful that you chose to share part of your story with me ❤️ Thank you for blessing me with this gift and thank you for choosing to connect with me and share time with me 🤗 It means more to me than you could know 🥲

Charity what ever form it takes is an ancient concept. Let's imagine that a blind child is born in a village. If the villagenhas the means the survival of the child and the village will be attended to. The due to its disability the child's activity will be monitored and curtailed during its childhood and throughout the rest of its life. Now let's imagine that the child has a didfferent disability. The child is born devoid of empathy and compassion. The nature explore and discovers the world through trial and error. But it doesn’t have the ability to understand the difference between hurting someone and love. It simply completely outside of the child's ability to comprehend. How might the village respond. Would is differ largely from the care given to the blind person. Modern society no longer lives in villages and survival no longer depends on a village working together. "Progress" has brought government and laws. What those two things look like can differ as much as the infinite colors of the rainbow. History and modern societies have seen people devoid of empathy and compasion come into power. In all cases the consequences are devastating. Because we don't live in a village the disability is not noted until it is far too late. Please note this is an opinion. I am certain there are many views out there and flaws in my story. It is just one thought among millions in our beautiful blue planet. I share mine with great respect for all other possibilities. Let us through great repect for each other build a better village across our beautiful planet. We haven't yet learned to do that but it doesn't mean we can't. We just need a village which understands there is only one basket. It is called earth. We are not there yet. We don't comprehend how the notion of villagewas borne and how it was nurtured into a viable constuct. It must be very difficult indeed to learn. Because after many melania there is always someone intent on destroying it. I guess that gene is alive, well and as strong as ever.

An eloquently and thoughtfully voiced opinion and I am thankful that you made the time and had the courage to share it ❤️ "We haven't yet learned to do that but it doesn't mean we can't." I agree! Having the courage to listen to each other and discuss are important first steps. There is no "us" versus "them". We are all one. I really truly believe this in my heart. And yet, it's not always easy to live up to this belief when fear and other emotions come knocking at my door. Still, every day I feel hopeful that I can be better and that we can indeed all come together. Thank you so much for sharing your perspective and for making the time to connect 💕🤗

Love your videos, they always remind me to SLOW DOWN, creating art is not about getting to the finish line first! Thanks for the content you create, it is treasured. Regarding watercolour ground, how long do you let it dry before adding the first washes?

Thank you!!! This means a lot to me! ❤️☺️ I'm glad my videos are speaking to you in this way! Slowing down is good for mind, body and soul (which definitely also helps with creativity). With respect to the watercolor ground, I let it dry thoroughly - sometimes just a few hours and if I have been especially generous with my application of it, I will even at times let it dry overnight. One thing I've noticed is that the paper tends to be buckled slightly (even though it is taped down) when the wc ground is not completely dried. This is usually when I let it sit longer and when it is completely dry, the paper lays flat again ☺️ I hope this helps!

Thank you for your kindness ☺️ Watercolor ground is a medium that can be used to make non porous surfaces act more like watercolor paper. Since it is relatively thick, I love to use it to create textures ☺️ Many have also suggested that modeling paste could do the same.

I love the colors and the texture. It's a beautiful painting. I think the balance might be off, with everything happening at the top of the painting and not much going on at the bottom. That being said, does anyone else see the face on the bottom right?

Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your perspective ❤️ It seems that you are thinking of ways you could make your own painting different and better for you and that is awesome!! ☺️ I have not seen the face, but I will be checking it out for sure. Thank you for making the time to connect 🤗

I like making texture with light modeling paste wouldn't it pop off the paper if the paper bent accidentally? I ask that because I don't want to make a piece and have it fall apart. Your piece is so pretty. Thanks for teaching us. Have a great day.😊 I have said for many years that there wouldn't be as many people in prison if they just felt loved.

Hi ❤️🤗 I really appreciate this question! I can’t say for sure what would happen with modeling paste on Watercolor paper and painted with watercolors as I have only ever used it with acrylics. The Watercolor ground is relatively flexible on the paper and it does not seem to crack or flake with gentle bending. Of course, I’d be careful not to bend any of my paintings too much regardless of whether or not they have a texture medium on top. I also usually add a fixative over my watercolor paintings and I believe this would add to the stability of your work with texture also. Thank you for making the time to reach out and connect ☺️

Hi ☺️ I'm so happy you're here! By the page, I'm assuming you are asking what type of paper I am using (if this is incorrect, please don't hesitate to reach out again). I am using watercolor paper and I'm creating texture using watercolor ground. I use a few different brands of watercolors and all of them are listed in my video description. In case you're not sure where to find this, here is a short video where I explain how to find my video description: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mq17xq1rg8q6Y6Q.html. I hope this helps! Thank you for making the time to reach out ❤️
