How to Create Abstract Art Using an Intuitive Painting Process | Watercolors and Mixed Media

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I have found another way to create texture while working with watercolors! I guess it's no secret by now just how much I love texture because I always seem to be looking for new ways to create it. I really enjoyed my process this week and I just can't wait til I'm done unpacking my studio so I can play more with this idea. I hope you enjoy watching my process! Let me know what you think in the comments. :)

Here’s a list of the materials I used for this painting: (*** I now have the ability to monetize my site. This means I can include links to the products I use and when you make a purchase using some of these links I will get a small commission. ( This applies only to the Amazon links I have included as I am an Amazon Associate. ) You won't pay extra for doing this and you will help me earn a little bit of money along the way, so I can continue doing this work. Please note that I will only ever add links to products that I actually like and use. Thanks in advance!***)
* Watercolor paper (Canson, cold pressed - amzn.to/46BlhpS)
- For this painting I used three different cuts of paper.
* Paper cutter - amzn.to/46wi4YH
* 0.5 inch Artist tape - amzn.to/3tHr3HO
* Plexi glass or a solid surface to tape paper to - amzn.to/3RYHFVN (I cut my plexiglass from an old window we had in our shed.)
* Water
* Paper towel
* Watercolor Ground - amzn.to/3tFSB0w
* Palette knife - amzn.to/46zHjJJ (My palette knives are packed so I used a plastic knife and it worked fine though I do prefer working with my palette knives when they are available.)
* Plastic fork or any other tool to create texture.
* Fine grain table salt
* Matte Heavy Gel Medium (This is what I used - amzn.to/46AdVCU, but I recommend using this instead - amzn.to/46zDnIL
* Stencil - This one is similar to the one I used - amzn.to/3S0POJe
* Daniel Smith watercolors in Quinacridone Burnt Orange, Quinacridone Deep Gold, Nickel Azo Yellow, Neutral Tint, Phtalo Turquoise and Mayan Blue Genuine - amzn.to/46PKKeY
* Kremer Pigmente watercolor in Star Gold and Tropical Sunrise Magic Green - shop.kremerpigments.com
* In case you can't buy Kremer Pigments where you are, CSY Art Gallery offers a few little set with some good substitutes for Star Gold - amzn.to/3PYaUWc (I absolutely love this little set and their 24k Merck gold makes me swoon just as much as Star Gold.)
* Round brush in size 6 - amzn.to/3tFUvyc (This is the travel kit I own and the brush I used for this process came from this set.)
* Mop brush - amzn.to/45BiCuU (The big round brush from this set is the one I use. I just can't find it individually online. I believe I bought mine at Michaels.)
* Micro mini brush - amzn.to/3tEdjh9
* Black fountain pen by Pilot - amzn.to/49aMfGL
* Pilot Namiki black ink - amzn.to/3QktKbj
* Pentel Slicci extra fine tip pen - amzn.to/3tH9Vls

    Quinacridone gold and phthalo turquoise is such a gorgeous combination. I love watching the way you build up layers of colour as I find this so difficult to do. Great ideas and techniques and another stunning painting, thank you! Glad to hear that you are enjoying your new home, hopefully you can relax and recharge now. B x💫

    Hi Bernice ❤️🤗 yes, I LOVE this color combo so much! It’s neat how colors can almost speak to us 💕 I am so happy to be in our new home! We have family here to help us get settled and that is such a nice gift too! 🥰 There is still not a lot of time to relax, but we are all sleeping much better now that we are here. Thank you for making the time to connect sweet friend 🤗 Your kindness is always much appreciated ❤️

    Hello my sweet friend! What a cool painting! I love the way you did the collage papers with such great textures and I liked the blue, purple and green kind of mixture you got! I so enjoy watching you try new things, and seeing you creatively use them! After your last note to me I was anticipating the snort! 😂 You held it together through half the video, then you kept me giggling after that! 😊 I am so glad the move is over, you survived!! 👏 I hope you get a lot accomplished this week, but don't over do it, it will be there when you're ready! I hope Garou is acclimating more and that you are all enjoying your new surroundings! Much love and hugs! Prayers for a good week ahead! 🙏💖🤗

Yes, amen to being here!!! I'm exhausted and happy all at once. It's such a beautiful and peaceful place for us to be and Garou is appreciating having a chance to roam our yard leash free. ☺️ And we have accomplished so much! I'm slowly but surely starting to feel somewhat settled. Thank you for thinking of us and offering us your love and support ❤️🤗 Lots of love heading your way my friend!! xoxo

    Hi Jessie ❤️🤗 Wow! Well, thank you so much for your kind and generous words! I'm having letting loose and having fun while doing my best not to worry about producing "the right outcome" for anyone else but me. Maybe that's what is making a difference. It can be a challenge at times to not get caught up in "algorithms" and other stats as a content creator. I think I get more rigid when I get caught up in all that "stuff". It's good to just be me, do what I like to do and let whatever happen, happen. I always appreciate you being here Jessie 💕 Thank you for making the time to watch and connect!

    Beautiful as always. Congratulations on your move. I always find it rewarding to set up a studio in a new space. It is so beautiful! In the beginning I was not a fan of the violet center rosette. But the treatment towards the end really pulled it all together. My brain still tries to 'see' something in it although it's an abstract. But I see ancient pottery shards unearthed at an archeological site :-) (can't help it...)

I’m so glad you decided to stick it out so you could get to a place when it started to appeal to you more ❤️ I often have that same doubt you describe as I’m painting and over time I’ve come to trust that I can shift it around if I just stick to it. I’m so glad you also look at it and see what it represents to you ☺️ I love that about abstract art!
