I love hearing that, Phil! Thank you so much!! Funny story: I was uploading a picture to a word document and there was a description at the bottom of the photo. It had descriptive words like art, contemporary art, etc. And the last words were "child art" and I thought, I have arrived!! Yay!

I'm still in the middle of watching this video but two things really stand out to me. Firstly it's so enjoyable and relaxing watching the work evolve and secondly it's so inspiring listening to you explaining your thought processes. I've watched quite a few of your videos and never tire of your positivity ....it's so helpful and encouraging when you also mention your challenges and how you overcome them. Thank you so much for sharing and actually there are of course more than two things! So I'll add that I agree with you on how it really helps when working on several paintings in conjunction because I have done that too. Also I love the final showing when you do the close ups. ❤

I love your art making, Betty. I am impressed with how you keep going and paint over and over. I also want to do that, but I never manage more than a couple layers before I finish.

If you're happy with the way you create, then there's no need to continue adding layers. But, if you want to, try experimenting on a piece to see how it feels. Above all, have fun!
I took your advice and worked on two paintings at once today. I've posted them on your Facebook page. I think I will ALWAYS work like this, because my decision making was far easier and quicker. Also, I tend to sometimes obsess over the detail in certain parts and this helped lessen that obsessing! Thank you again for your incredible teaching.

Hi Nola! The paint is fluid and I don't water it down. I prefer a dry brush technique. Thanks so much for watching from S. Africa!
Thank you, Betty, for your wonderful videos. I wonder if you might explain in some detail or show in a video how you get your drips to run down in many streaks. When I try I get two or three “fat” streaks and I can’t determine what I’m doing wrong. Thanks so much for your willingness to teach and share.
@BettyFranksArt

If you're using a spray bottle, spray really close to the paint. If you're using a brush, add water to it. I hope that helps. It takes some practice to get the drips just right!
Betty - I have watched this video twice and loved it each time! Thank you for your inspiration! I LOVE bright colors, circles, and lots of crazy marks, but I “overthink” about it, worrying what others will think. I love my art, but the people pleasing in me seems to keep me worrying about what others think. Any help on stopping the crazy, negative thinking when it comes to our art? Thank you! Again - LOVE your art and loved your class!

I totally understand the people pleasing thing. A couple of things might help. 1) Create, but don't share. Just create for yourself. 2) Listen to podcasts/audiobooks while creating. For me, it helps turn down the volume of the negative self talk. Hope that helps. Keep on creating, Leslie!

Hello again... I am enjoying this video... And I see that you have a glass pallet, but that you have put white paint on it or something... Is that so that you can clearly see the colors? The white color on your piece of glass acrylic paint? Is this done so that at some point you can scrape the whole thing off reuse the piece of glass? Questions questions!
@BettyFranksArt
Жыл бұрын
It's not a glass palette. It's a canvas board wrapped with 4 mil plastic (that's why it's white). I have several of these to use when I'm working small. Thanks for watching!
Hey Betty, how did they manage to choose from the three? I loved them all equally! Never mind having to be lighter in certain areas to allow for their black text. The end result is very uplifting and cheery. This is actually the content I needed to see today, because I really need to get creating and have been thinking about doing magazine covers for some time. ❤ Still waiting for the video on how you frame these. Do you think your process would work on all neutral colors, or do you think your “style” would not be the same?
@BettyFranksArt
Жыл бұрын
Hi Sherrie! I haven't had the opportunity (or need) to frame any pieces lately. When I do (which will be a while), I'll create a video of my process. Thank you for asking! I have created using mostly neutrals in the past (not very often). It doesn't translate as well. After giving it a try, I realized that I much prefer my brighter colors.
I’m impressed that the paper didn’t buckle at all. I’m sure you knew it had good performance and it’s why you picked it. But I didn’t know Bristol would stand up to acrylic THAT well. I usually stick to canvas paper when I’m not using a canvas, but this might be a good alternative too. Do you know what the weight is??

And oh my gosh yes, overcoming perfectionism is so hard! A few months ago I was on a mission to challenge myself to work faster, have a practice (not masterpiece) mindset, and not attempt to be perfect. It worked for a bit but I quickly found myself reverting back and getting more nit picky and lost in the details again 😭
@BettyFranksArt
Жыл бұрын
I love working on Bristol paper! You can find it on my favorite art supply list: www.bettyfranksart.com/my-favorite-art-supplies I'm not sure what part of the world you're in. If it's an area that has a lot of humidity, paper may not hold up well. Try it out! Overcoming perfectionism is an ongoing struggle for me! Try working faster for only a short period of time. Set a timer for 10 (or 20 or...) minutes and see how much you can get done without over-thinking. Then go back to slowing down. Have fun creating, Jane!
Do you ever change the orientation of your boards?
@BettyFranksArt
9 ай бұрын
Good question! I don't! I was once told that you SHOULD rotate your paintings. I tried that and it doesn't work for me! I have found over the years that I prefer the portrait mode (verses landscape). Because of that, I have a hard time with landscape mode paintings. I need more practice!
Im currently working on a very large piece but struggling to make it cohesive mainly for that reason, my biggest struggle is with the color choices. Do you have any advice?
@BettyFranksArt
11 ай бұрын
I hear ya! Sometimes I put out way too many colors. That's when I realize I need to limit my colors. That usually helps. And, seems like adding a neutral color and white (think values) always pulls it together. Good luck to you!

@@BettyFranksArt Thank you!
I have a question. I often hearI people say that their painting is overworked. Can u please explain what that means exactly? Does it mean you had something good and u ruined it? O r does it mean it’s too detailed and can u univerwork a painting? Can u do a video abt this and like how you know to stopi
@BettyFranksArt
11 ай бұрын
Good question! I believe that it's something that each artist goes through and learns on their own what they consider overworked. I've had many folks comment that I should have stopped sooner. However, at that stage of the painting, it's just not "me". Yes, I could stop, but I don't LOVE it yet. Each artists figures out through practice when they're done and when they're gone a little too far and overworked the painting. I hope that helps!
