Thanks for demonstrating why I won’t attempt this myself. My local mechanic thanks you!

Great video Gary very thorough , well filmed and a well executed job . If I had a mechanic like you I’d be happy to pay to have it done , alas that’s why I’m going to give it a crack myself . Can you remember the brand of the aftermarket new strut you installed and if the driver was happy with its performance . Did you change the left side too ? All the best nick

@@Secularworld60 Hi Nick. Thanks for your kind comments. I don’t recall the make of the strut. They were supplied by the owner. He is happy with the performance. You can get Sachs (my personal choice) from Rock Auto but there are lots of quality options for your car. Good luck

Good Video Gary. Why not just undo the 6 axle flange bolts? Would that make this job easier and quicker?

That main bolts for the strut: didn’t you initially say it was 52 foot pounds? Then later you were mentioning 90+ foot pounds. Which is it? And by the way, what was that specialty tool that you had put on the control arm to lower it? It looked like a pipe, but it was going through some sort of a metal “loop”. I found a video to be very helpful. I’ve got a 2013 Jetta sport wagon and I plan on using the Bilstein B6 with the 2” lift springs . Don’t they recommend replacing the hardware bolts as well? By the way, what tool was that that you used to pop off the axle spindle (after removing the 24mm bolt)? And what weight brass hammer did you use? Great video!!

Hi John, thanks for your comments. Torque is 52ft lbs +90 degrees. Sorry I may have misspoke. I will need to review to answer your other questions.

@@garysgarage2118 By the way, I noticed you had to go to a three-quarter inch breaker bar to get that 24 mm 12 point bolt out. I have a half inch breaker bar but I just went out and bought a three-quarter inch breaker bar. I have to order the impact sockets. Should I be looking to get regular depth impact sockets, or deep?

@@johnforsyth8414 if you are only getting one set, get the deep sockets. The will do 99% of what you will need.

I also noticed that you used a Milwaukee battery powered tool for one tight spot. Which tool was that? Then later you used a ryobi 90° cordless tool on those three top strut bolts. Can you provide more details about that tool? I want to make sure I have everything covered before I tackle this project. I am planning on doing this with some Koni special active struts. I will be also buying the new bolt and nut kit. Unfortunately, I will be doing this from Jack stands. I already have a 1/2” breaker bar and a 24mm 12 point impact socket. I also just bought a three-quarter inch breaker bar and a 3/4” 24mm 12 point impact socket. Just in case of half-inch breaker bar does not loosen That center hub/axle bolt. I also ordered the spreader tool for the stut pocket. I’m probably going to have another pair of hands to help me put it all together again. I was thinking of changing the control arms as well with a new one that has the bushings and ball joint already assembled. If changing the control arms would the process, be any different? Thanks for any more information on those battery power tools that you used. The video was very well done !

I used a rachet wrench to get at the back bolts. There is not much room without removing the plastic cowl. And to remove the cowl you need to remove the wiper arms. To much work and risk of braking rusty parts. Thanks for watching.

@@garysgarage2118 Is that one of the Milwaukee M12 ratchet wrenches? You used that one on one of the bolts near the strut. Then you used the Ryobi for the top bolts on the strut. I’m assuming they’re both 3/8 inch drive? Any practical differences between the two of them? Thanks!
