Volkswagen Rear Coil Spring Replacement: The COMPLETE Guide!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The complete guide to replacing rear coil springs in a Volkswagen Passat, Jetta, Golf, and lots of other models. This How To guide will show you everything you need to know to safety and easily replace your Volkswagen Rear Coil Springs at home. Broken coil springs is an extremely common VW failure, but it's not a difficult fix. I'm specifically replacing the rear springs on my 2006 VR6 4-Motion Passat, but the suspension setups are extremely similar for most modern Volkswagens.

I watched this video and changed my coil spring in 20 minutes what a lifesaver it was watching this first
I was able to replace the rear coil springs on my 2007 Passat with no issues. The trickiest part was getting the bolt back in the lower control arm. The rear of my car now sits at the proper height again. Thank you very much for this very informative video.

Thanks for this, saved me the cost of a spring compressor. Just did my Tiguan and worked a treat. The only issue I had was aligning the swing arm when jacking it back up but got there in the end with the help of a lump hammer. 👍🏼

Great Video! I had a question, My 2010 Mercedes CLS 219 had both its rear coil springs replaced recently as they were fractured. Following replacement, the rear ride height seems to be a few centimetres more than it was previously. Is this normal? In time, will the rear ride height go back to how it was on the old springs that were replaced? Many thanks in advance.
Thanks man - going to attempt Eibach lifting springs in my Škoda Yeti 🎉

I have a hardrop 2006 beetle that I tow a teardrop trailer with that's sitting a little low in the rear ever since I put new struts in the front and someone said that the springs in a beetle convertible are a little heavier duty and was wondering if you know anything about this or some other was to make the beetle and little firmer? Thanks
Thanks for the video. Very well done. One of my rear springs broke and need to replace them. I feel I can do this on my own now and save a lot of money. Thanks!

What kind of lubricant did you put on the bottom of that spring? I’m thinking of changing my original rear struts and front struts and adding a 2 inch Bilstein coil spring kit. I’m assuming the installation would be the same?
Always wondered how to put a stand in the same spot you need to use the jack
Great video! I’m going to try to replace the rear passenger spring on my 2008 2.5L Jetta. Is there anything else I should think about replacing? I checked my car today and noticed how low it was to one side. Took off the tire and realized the spring was broken lol

There's not too much else that you'd need to do with the rear! It's never a bad idea to have new bolts ready in case some break though

Grade instructional video. Can I perform this spring replacement job on my own or do you need two people? Do you have to replace both Springs at once or can you just do one spring that's broken?
@MrTurboDima

Its easy to do by one person. You MUST replase both of the springs

Where do you recommend buying the springs? Being quoted at 481 dollars to replace the rear coils on my 2015 Jetta and think I should just do myself.
Replacing rear coil springs on a 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen TDI SEL. Both rear springs broke at the base and still provide support. State Inspection caught the broken springs. Springs on order. Thanks for the video. Hope to do it myself without compression tools? Any guidance would be appreciated!

Hi. Was reading your reply and was wondering if you were getting any metal to metal rattling noises coming from the back of the car? Any vibrations? TIA!
@peblum
Жыл бұрын
@Mark B No. Nothing. Was a straight forward replacement. Both sides must be taken apart at once and once the entire axle is lowered the springs can be removed easily. The level sensor also needs to be unbolted.
Good video but there is kinda issue. Please tighten the nut only a little thight, and apply the final amount of torque when the car is back on the ground and at final level, because it can happen, that you "turn" the bushing out of the rear shock. Greetings from Germany !
Well I hit the like 👍🏾 button for good luck 🍀
Where did you find the spring I can’t find it no where
I was wondering if you could use a spring compressor or a couple of them to do this without disconnecting the arm ?
thx for the tips, you saved me like 210$ :D
How do you know which spring to order if there are no colour markings on your existing springs
My golf has a rear sway bar, should I unbolt that as well?
2:19 What size socket is on that air gun may I ask?
My back rear spring just broke, but I’m unsure if I need to repair the entire assembly or just the spring. Do springs usually fail before shock absorbers? Or should I replace it all just to be safe.

Are VWs known for having bad springs? My 2012 Jetta Sportwagen's rear passenger side spring broke. Part of it exited the vehicle. Do you think the Sportwagen will be the same procedure?

Hey yall just did this on my golf. For the mk7 golf, you must also remove the lower shock bolt and swaybar bolt. Its slightly more work but dont let it discourage you, it was still very easy

Update… would have been harder to replace All 4 tires. Start to finish about :25 minutes with a cordless impact and standard floor Jack. I have 2013 Jeta wagon TDI.
My local gatage wants 2 hours labour for dping both sides. At £60 an hour plus 20%vat i will do it myself in 30 mins. Ty

Hi , I drive VW Golf 5 1.4 patrol engine and 80 ps . My RPM goes over 4000 when I am at 140 km in 5th gear . Is it normal? Thanks.
@CashedOutCars
3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like it’s probably okay. It’ll depend on gearing. If your speed corresponds to RPM I wouldn’t worry about it, if your RPMs jump and your speed doesn’t then you may have problems
how important is that little plastic piece that fits in the bottom of the rubber gromet on the bottom coil LOL leftover part on the ground
Anyone else hit the like button cuz they didn't want to risk bad luck on removing bolts?
