I collect Keyes jewelry and you have a lovely example! Keyes Jewelry was a Canadian mid-price jewelry company that was in competition with Continental, another Canadian jeweler. Keyes did a lot of maple leaf brooches. They aren’t talked about as often as Sherman, but as far as Canadian vintage jewelry goes, they’re beautiful!

I'm only beginning to collect vintage rhinestone jewelry. My prize piece is a beautifully sparkling Jay Flex art deco style necklace with pink, blue and clear crystals. Jay Flex, I'm learning, was a Canadian designer based out of Montreal. I also have a perfect two strand gold tone bracelet of gorgeous aurora borealis crystals with a very fine security chain. It isn't marked and so far I haven't been able to identify the designer. It looks brand new but I know that it's not.

I love vintage rhinestone jewelry. It’s always wonderful to run across a piece in like new condition. It sounds as though your necklace is. Some pieces weren’t stamped but instead came with a paper tag. Many of the De Lizza & Elster (D&E) also know as Juliana were not signed. Have you look at the is it Juliana website? The site has many examples. It would be wonderful if your bracelet turned out to be Juliana ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The Rhine river only runs for a minuscule length through Austria. It mostly runs through Germany and only in Germany does one find Rheinkiesel or true Rhine stones that are comparable to Herkimer diamonds, an American quartz, both are real gemstones. Austria, however, is the home of lead crystal that we now call rhinestones.

I just love jewelry marked Austria. The quality and design are among the best out there. The Austria brooch without the pin is easily repaired by adding one from another. I’ve done it often with brooches I have found.

Thanks for the info on Juliana. It is hard for me to determine them. I have one piece that looks a lot like the teardrop one you have, just a different color. Are the navette stones the more narrow marquise shaped ones? And the term marquise stones used for the little fatter/wider ones? Thanks for sharing.
@VintageVariety
2 жыл бұрын
They’re pretty much the same. Some people call them marquise, some navette. Sometimes they’re wider. If your brooch is the same then it is most likely Juliana. They made some in different colors. I do hope this helps. I too have a hard time despite studying and knowing the construction plus what to look for. I’m always reluctant to say a pieces is unless I see another like it that has been verified. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love brooches! You have beautiful pieces. I always hear people say you can sometimes tell Juliano by the puddling. Have you got an example of what they are talking about? I think I know but would like to see for sure. I saved your vid and the website. Thanks for always having great content!

Thank you Teresa. I didn’t show an example of the figure 8 puddling. If you examine the back of some pieces, you’ll see where it has been put together/ or soldered. It’s smooth but it will be reminiscent of a figure 8. Have a great weekend! 😊

@@VintageVariety thank you very much,
Another attribute of Juliana is that they always have a pin stop. If it doesn’t have one, it’s definitely not D&E. I love your brooch collection! They’re gorgeous!

How did D&E and other classics stack there jewelry for such dimension I’ve seen pieces that were stacked on top of each other and it was very beautiful do you know how they stacked it together

It usually has to do with the configuration of the construction. For example Juliana used a figure eight construction of the actual brooch and then the stones were set in.

Oh yes figure 8 mudding , so the do the mudding in the area and place it on top as it’s being heated , like ( do the 8 and than add some solder to the area going there and heat it and set it in a secure position? On what else besides solder do they use , I’m so happy I found your page
