Court TV is evil and *greedy* for hiding all of the footage from the trial (which SHOULD be public) behind a PAYWALL, so public court trials now require paid monthly subscriptions to watch.
All I have heard in this trial is how everyone was there for the defendant. I didn’t see or hear anything or anyone speaking on the loss of the mother. She got her justice today. RIP.

No tears. Just drama. She is finally held accountable for her atrocious choice and behaviour. No matter how much her mom’s family support her. The fact is that she killed her own mother in the most brutal way. Everyone says that her mother would not want her to be punished. We will never know what her mother’s wishes were because she actually killed her. Imagine her mother’s thoughts when her daughter is stabbing her in the neck 30 times. What a horrible way to die. Sydney didn’t even try to help her mother as she lay there dying. Instead, she decided to stage the scene by breaking the window and telling the police that her mother had been attacked by an intruder. That is not mental illness it is is callous and criminal at another level.

State's expert was NOT a psychiatrist. She was a psychologist. The state couldn't find any psychiatrists to testify for them, because all the experts agreed Sydney was insane. The state's "expert" was not board certified, had never testified before, had never published, had minimal experience, and conducted NO psychological testing on Sydney. There are emails showing the prosecutor told their expert what evidence to focus on. State's expert was a joke. No one agreed with them, and all of Sydney's treating physicians (who were not hired by the defense) agreed with the defense's experts (who included psychiatrists). Exactly - that is why her mental illness was explained but most people don't understand it unless they have seen it first hand. This girl was an honor student living a great life and over her freshman year her brain started to malfunction. She was probably confused as hell as why she couldn't memorize things and perform like she always had. Most of these mental illnesses present in their late teens for the first time. That's what happened to our family member and it devastated her and our family. We all have memories of how hard that time in life is trying to figure out future careers, dating, etc. - someone with mental illness doesn't stand a chance without help. As the mother of a son who was diagnosed with schizophrenia aged 18 (he’s now 30) I can categorically say that the defendant was not mentally ill at the time she killed her mother. She immediately lied and attempted to cover up her actions. A mentally ill person would not have the capacity to do that. She simply blew up in a murderous rage the moment her mother was about to discover her lies!

@@Popitlikeitshot My daughter jumped on my back once when I was putting stuff into the laundry. By the time the ambulance 🚑 got to my house she was back to normal. One time I was driving on the freeway and she grabbed my steering wheel. That time she wasn’t able to get it together and was held. So yes I’ve seen it both ways. When they said she had an incident where she would lose sight it’s in the prosecutions closing statement I knew she has schizophrenia. That’s something my daughter describes. When it happens it scares me. The doctor said it’s part of having tactile hallucinations. My daughter has auditory, tactile and visual hallucinations. She is also autistic. I see a lot of similarities when I was watching this case. So to me it was heartbreaking.
I'm relieved with the verdict but it's bittersweet 😢 If you stab someone in the throat you want them dead. I think she just was filled with so much rage. You don't know what goes on behind closed doors. My heart breaks that a daughter could do this to her own mother 😢

Agree! 👏🏻
The thought that she could snap and kill again is terrifying . The fact that she lied and attempted to cover it up shows she understood what she did . This case reminds me of a childhood friend and neighbor who shot and killed both of her parents . When we heard about it we all knew which of their kids did it because she had always been strange and was medicated for most of her life . She was sentenced to a state mental hospital and was gradually released back into society with continued supervision .
Good verdict. Even her reaction is an act. There are no tears. She is simply holding up a tissue and pretending to cry. She got a huge break being out of jail for three years. It's time for appropriate punishment for taking Brenda Powell's life. ❤

I had a schizophrenic family member. She had symptoms from the age of 6. She became violent as she aged. From my personal experience you don’t all of a sudden become schizophrenic one day out of nowhere and kill someone. There are multiple signs and symptoms. She probably was suffering mentally and feeling pressure to perform or measure up and couldn’t bear her family knowing the truth. This story is not so unusual. Allowing her to be out on bond for nearly 4 years and live with granny to play with the animals all day, did her no favors in preparing her for prison. She's a young woman, and her family don't want to see her behind bars. That, unfortunately is their problem that they need to work through. She murdered her mother in such a horrible way and just because she has followed the rules while out on bail does not change the fact of what she did. Brenda was murdered by her own daughter. Her family are not their for justice for Brenda breaks my heart. The way her father and her grandmother answered some of the questions was obvious that they wanted her off the hook from going to prison. Does this family know how many other families feel the same way when their child went to far and they to will use everything they can to keep their child from prison? Brenda went through a hell of pain leading up to her death, at the hands of a little monster. If people can forgive her that's great, but it dose'nt change what she did to her mother and that is not acceptable and is highly against the law.
As someone who has mental illnesses, I'm glad the jury called it right. Those of us who struggle with mental illness often wrongly assume most of us are dangerous because so many people try to get off on an insanity plea. There are very few cases of people who comit crimes due to strong mental disease.
These were actual tears. Finally. Unfortunately, they were for herself, not her mother. Justice was served for Brenda. ⚖️ 🙏
Hats off to this prosecution office for not caving in to her family delusions. They clearly believe Sidney and they are being blinded by the tragedy and selfishness, while not thinking about how easy she can snap again and hurt another innocent victim or even themselves!

I think it is time we all thought about a certain generation of children/young adults who do not know or care how to control emotions. She is no psychopath, but in the moment of a huge brat attack did the unthinkable. That is not mental illness and does a disservice to those people who genuinely do suffer from mental health issues.
