Sydney Powell's Teacher Testifies in Mother Stabbed Murder Trial

#SydneyPowell's English teacher from high school, Kathryn Milligan, says Powell was a good student who cared about her grades, but did not recall her having a severe mental illness. Powell is accused of killing her own mother. She pleads not guilty by reason of insanity.

I was about to say the same thing. She appeared defensive … her entire demeanour changed. I feel like Sydney wasn’t prepared for the test and therefore used this teacher to get her out of it for now so that she’d have more time to study. To say that it was inappropriate to contact an administrator isn’t correct. She should’ve sent her down to see an administrator to discuss the situation instead of making another teacher ( colleague) feel compelled to move the test for her and to speak on her behalf.

This is such a weird trial to watch. I find myself feeling even worse for the victim than I already felt. To me it seems as though none of these people seem to understand that you can still love someone while also holding them accountable for their actions. She brutally killed her mother, right? Even if mental illness was a major factor in what she did ~ it still happened, so why doesn’t anyone seem to care that she take some accountability here?

@@smiley9872 in this instance the family was involved in strict Catholicism not that there's anything intrinsically wrong with being a Catholic but in this family's case they're in deep denial I think a good example that I could provide would be that there are two different kinds of priests some are actually psychologists themselves and have an understanding they need to take responsibility for their actions they just can't say five Hail Marys and Jesus will take the wheel okay other priests who have no moral responsibility and expect but they will automatically be forgiven with no accountability and no self-exploration these are the ones who become the pedophiles and the sexual abusers within the church and again it has been permitted because of the extreme denial existing in the church many priests were prosecuted decades after their crimes because of this pervasive belief that All Is Forgiven. Why did the English teacher get involved in resolving the student's problem with the Chemistry teacher? It was none of her business what was going on in the Chemistry class and she should have let the Chemistry teacher handle it. Very likely the Chemistry teacher saw the situation for what it was - the student had not prepared anything for the assignment and was looking for a way out.

My English teacher was my protector, my de facto counselor. She was my safe space. I suspect Sydney felt the same way about Ms. Milligan. And chemistry was my nemesis. I’d speak to my English teacher frequently about my dread of chemistry, my inability to comprehend it, despite hours of study. To suggest that Sydney hadn’t prepared for the exam is ludicrous. It doesn’t fit with her personality type at all. She would have overstudied, not “slacked.” And I suspect her friend suggested they go to Ms. Milligan’s office and Sydney just acquiesced. We view the world and the things that happen in it through highly personal lenses. I can’t understand your observations and I’m sure you can’t understand mine. But I think we can both pay attention to the MMPI-2.

Or this girl was in psychosis with schizophrenia, as diagnosed by a qualified professional, and the family could see and believe that. I'm shocked at how obviously unwell this young lady was (currently medicated, and will likely never be as she was before schizophrenia took hold), and yet how many people here don't get it or understand schizophrenia. Its very common for stress reactions to trigger the first episode of psychosis in schizophrenia at around this young ladies age. To kill her mother was totally out of character, yet very much in line with what a psychotic individual with paranoid and delusional thoughts would do. I wish more people understood the array of mental illnesses there are and how they can affect people. This case is absolutely tragic.

My family never gave me that kind of support about anything. I guess I didn't have a good family. None of us ever killed each other. I just walked away and got on with my life. It must suck having a high GPA and being in prison for the rest of your life.

When she got to university people stopped coddling her and she freaked because she couldn't hack it, couldn't lie / manipulate her way out of it, and the result was lashing out when faced with consequences.

GREAT COMMENTS on a web site I just found: WEB SITE: Websleuths; Brenda Powell 50, stabbed to death by daughter Sydney. . .CLICK this subject in BLUE. READ COMMENTS from Teachers from High School and COLLEGE. Comments state LIKE YOU'VE STATED; "she was used to being SEEN as great and successful and when SHE couldn't DO something SHE MANIPULATED "PEOPLE" INTO "HELPING" HER FIX/GET AROUND IT". One Teacher states he/she does write Recommendations for College Students. They NEVER know what happens after that. A College Students needs 3 recommendations and they are written "generically" because they don't KNOW the student/family, very well? ? College Teachers :) :) :) :) tell IT like you stated in your comment and WHAT THEIR COLLEGE DOES FOR NEW STUDENTS and SUGGESTS to go to community college. . .that may be EASIER. . .than COLLEGE COURSES that are more difficult for a person like Sydney Powell. "Interesting" comments and "INFORMATIVE" to HELP Understand Sydney Powell TYPE of student(s). The College Teacher DID STATE. . .Sydney Powell Type of student(s) SHOULD BE "INVESTIGATED" IN HIGH SCHOOL and parents TOLD. . .before going off to College where these Types WILL REACT like Sydney Powell did.

I’d like to know from the shrinks, how it is she murdered her mother in a schizophrenic episode and then invented an alternative story about an intruder, broke glass, told her dad the story (all evidence of knowing what she did was wrong), and then lapsed into a catatonic state when the police arrived. Totally contradictory. Wouldn’t she have remained in a schizophrenic break throughout?

Looking at more facts of the case, in my personal opinion I believe that she didn’t plan to kill her mom but rather went into a rage about the situation that was transpiring and snapped then didn’t know how to handle it so she staged a break in. That is what I personally feel. This case is absolutely heartbreaking and I can’t even begin to imagine the physical suffering her mom endured being attacked with a cast iron skillet and knife attack. It’s gut wrenching.

Asking the teacher to go and talk to the other teacher to me shows a lack of accountability. She’s felt pretty comfortable getting other people to believe and do her bidding but when it came to discussing that directly with the teacher and being responsible in taking action she makes another person go and do it for her. This is interesting, in that one she can be manipulative, but I think she has deep rooted self esteem issues and a very low image of herself.

Lied and pretend to be her mother when the Dean called back after 3 times, lied to her father when he called to speak to the mom, broke out the window, lied to police when they arrived. Doesn't sound like bi Polar-Schizophrenia disorder to me, just a lier and a murderer in the middle of rage!

She was „distraught“ for the upcoming chemistry test…. Was she ever distraught about having butchered her mother? This episode of the chemistry test is emblematic. For whatever reason she was not ready to take the test and promptly resorted the her tried-and-true strategy: whining in self-pity, expecting and demanding others to solve her own problems and take responsability for her. It is disconcerting that the teacher accepted or - even worse - suggested that she would talk to the chemistry teacher so that this privileged brat could take the test another day. Weird that she recognizes that she „wasn’t the person in charge of the test“, but - all the same - she felt entitled to help her protegée. This fact alone is enough to make the teacher an unreliable witness. Too biased, not at all objective and she didn’t even try to hide her disdain for the prosecution. What a deplorable bevahior on the witness stand!
