Vax Power 7 torture test

Ойын-сауық

The Vax Power 7 is a dry vacuum cleaner. It's not for sucking up liquids, so what happens when it does?

You should send the part of the vid with the water pumping to Vax, tell them you really like the wet capability of their (model number) vacuum cleaner :D

Brilliant execution and flamethrower at the end. That motor did well during the watercooled episode with the magic smoke puff and spark in between the recovery.

Wow that was a hard little vacume cleaner, it even gave a beautifull lighthouse on fire impression at the end :-D :-D. A typical looking engine, ive repaired henry vacume cleaners with similar style motors, reminded me of the old old hoover hovering ball type of my youth. Next time, try a pint of petrol he he :)

It’s been a few years, but... isn’t rainwater almost non-conductive? Having been evaporated and all... So if one were to limit the current to the motor - one could make an emergency rain water pump. Or am I missing something ?

At least it pumped out the water. If anything, covering the electronics board/controller with dielectric paste would waterproof it, and it could effectively be used to pump water out of anything without being cooked. I suspect an upright could do about the same.

With the EU ban on vacuum cleaners above 1600 watts, I forgot just how high wattages manufacturers went. For example, most hammer drills are rated around 600 to 1200 watts, which is not surprising given that it takes quite a lot of energy to drill through concrete. So why does a vacuum cleaner that lifts dust off the floor (e.g. after using a power drill) need 2400 watts of power!?

bagless vacuum cleaners use a vortex, this has more resistance to the air flowing than a bag, so you need more power to pull it, and then you have the overheating issue as it relies on that air to cool the motor, so a bagged 400w machine can do what a bagless 1600w does, but with a lot less heat, and doesnt tend to overheat, bagless is the real issue, it saves nothing as you also have loads of filters you have to clean everytime and cost more than bags too. bagless tend to overheat before you get a round of the house done, so they are super annoying.

That probably explains why our current bagged Henry vacuum cleaner has a 600 watt motor. We previously had a Dyson bagless that had to be emptied every 2 to 3 uses and its filters washed every few weeks. We didn't have any issue with it overheating and the suction seemed fine, but after just 2 years it started falling apart, first with the dust container button snapping off, then the hose kinking and finally bits chipping off the hose connections, so it looked well bandaged from the duct tape holding most of it together! When deciding to replace it, I was initially put off by the low wattage of the Henry despite the good reviews, but after trying a neighbour's Henry, I couldn't get over its suction. So we got the Henry and had a rather interesting experience with its first use - The incredible amount of plinking from all the stuff it was pulling out of the carpets (that the Dyson left behind), considering what seemed like a puny 600 watt rating. That was also before the EU ban on 1600+ watt vacuum cleaners, which made me realise just inefficient those 2000+ watt vacuum cleaners are. We now have the bagged Henry for about 4 years and just need to change the bag every couple of months. No bits chipping off, no hose kinking and suction seems as good as new. We since got a compatible turbo brush (half the cost of the Henry brand) for vacuuming up cat/dog hair and don't one bit miss our previous bagless vacuums.

yh my hoover bagless sounds 4 times louder than my bagged one and causes more hassle with clogged filters than its worth ,bagless can fuck off

  • @jusb1066
    @jusb10668 жыл бұрын

This is why i avoid these bagless, all they do is overheat and lose suction with a tiny amount of dust in the box, and you spend 10x longer cleaning filters than you do if you had a bag

I can relate to that, the filters have to be very clean to have a good suction. I may go back to a bag based vacuum cleaner when this one kick the bucket. Cheers :)

it works with cars too, cars that had a slow head leak from water to combustion, when you take them apart, you find the valves etc all spotlessly clean, no carbon

How does a thermal cutoff trigger when the thing is getting water pumped through it?! Surely the water was pulling the heat away.

  • @AintBigAintClever

It may not have been the cutout after all. There's a speed controller in there that was also underwater.

Ok, that makes sense, though I have to wonder how it continued to work, well I also wonder how it worked at all. I was kinda joking about water-cooling, I do understand that water and electronics don't mix (especially when it uses mains). I do understand that the water could have caused heating that would trigger a thermal cutoff.

By the way, when you connected up the motor and changed the fuse for something else, the fire and sparks made it look like something straight out of Ghostbusters.

It doesn't take much to trigger a triac, and the trigger pin would've been right next to the other pins so could easily pick up from there. Also, they can fail short-circuit which would cause the motor to run at full power. I've seen DJ lighting controllers where blown triacs cause channels to jam on.
