Ok ...how many times do you think you farted in one of these stores?.....I can think of 4.....
I practically visited most of those supermarkets with my father when I was quite young. We shopped at A&P, National, Dominick's, Jewel, Omni & Cub Foods. Good times. 🛒
Not only is Guido's in Hillside gone, but so is the whole damn Shopping Center
I never knew Pick N Save ever had any stores in the Chicago area other than the one in Waukegan that closed in 2008. In fact I read when Roundy's announced they were coming to the Chicago area the article said they had never been in Chicago before. That is of course when they launched Mariano's.
Back in the days when my dad would buy a new car, and it took 3 days to make the deal, unreal....
I think we used to call the National store "National Tea". Anybody else remember that or were we nuts?

The JEWEL Store is the one from 53/54 S. Pulaski Rd. It's been ages since I've seen the Bazaar Sign next to JEWEL. I know someone who has a photo of that location and she showed me where this location is at. There's no doubt about the location! At 1:13 - That's North Avenue up on the north side of town. At 1:39 the A&P Store is by the Redline or Greenline L Station, so that would be up on the north side. So far, the majority of the food stores in this video are located on the north side of Chicago Only one I know of was located on the south side was the JEWEL food store.

when my dad saw the word Bazaar, he would barrel thru people and the front door like a running back for the Bears, the ass
I remember National and Dominick's. Had a Dominick's just down the street on North Ave. I remember my grandmother always mentioning something that she bought at National's.
Thanx 4 the trip down grocery store memory lane.
Great videos. Go Bengals. I was in class of 77. Your stuff is outstanding.

Not a chain, but The Model on 147th street, Dolton. East of Arts Roller Rink and Watson Oldsmobile. It was a big day when it opened, had a bakery, snack bar and a liquor store, had free babysitting. I worked there from 1967 to 69
1:31 Hey! I lived just a short walk from there!!
IN MY DAYS IN THE 60'S AS A YOUNG CHILD IN CHICAGO, WE HAD A&P, HILLMAN'S, NATIONAL, DEL FARM, HI & LOW, KROGER ETC. NOW ITS JUST JEWEL, & THIS ITALIAN GROCERY CHAIN & A FEW FOOD 4 LESS, THAT WAS STARTED HERE IN L.A. & OWNED BY KROGER, WHAT ELSE IS NEW IN CHICAGO GROCERY LAND?

I've never heard of any of these stores, but then again, I've never been to Chicago. The A&P stores I've heard of. There used to be one on Central Avenue in Yonkers, N.Y., where I spent most of my childhood, all of my teenage years, and the first eleven years of my adulthood (ages 18-29, from 1978-1989).

I grew up in Richton Park. My family shopped at A&P and Garafalo's. My oldest sister worked at Korvette's in Matteson, which was down the road from Venture. A&P became National Foods, and then they built an Eagle's across the street. Ahh, the great memories!
Looks like you got all the ones I remember. Is that Jewel-Osco Grand Bazaar the one from 55th and Pulaski?

My dad would hear "bazaar"and be there 2 hours before it opened to get a cheap frying pan, prob wasted half his life in lines.....unreal
If I recall correctly, A&P stood for "Atlantic & Pacific"?
