Oh! We went many times to Adventureland. My parents taking me as a small child; later as a teenager, hanging with my friends. One memory stands out: I spied Cindrellas coach parked off in a corner -- I wandered over; only to see the lady dressed as Cinderella having a smoke and a cold beer. ....understandable, seeing it was an incredibly hot summer day -- lol.

I remember hitchhiking there from Bolingbrook when I was 15. My dad said if I got a ride there he would pick me up.

Class of 1980 Lake Park HS. Last time I was there was summer of 76 with 2 friends Dave and Kyle from Westfield Middle school (Class of 1976). Later on after it closed we would “sneak” in and get high and walk around.

Thank you for sharing these photos. I remember going to Adventureland a few times and it was so much fun. But so far away from where we lived on the Southwest side of the city. We went there more often after Riverview closed. And Santa's Village. And Fairyland, too. And Kiddieland. I went there since I was a toddler. My grandma and uncle lived on the North side so we would go to Kiddieland pretty often, too. I took my kids there, too, and also my grandchildren, until they closed, too.

Hearken us back to when the world was a much better (and calmer) place and transport us back to when we were young. Ahh...the 70s! Adventureland always seemed to be soooo far away from where my family lived on the southeast side of Chicago. I was there once as a youngster and rode all the BIG rides - Super Italian Bobs, the Himalaya and the list goes on. I remember how much fun the Hofbrahaus was and the Parashoots felt like the car was going to disengage and fly away! Thank you for this fine nostalgic look back at an era gone forever. God Bless The United States of America!

Thank you for sharing. I have driven by the intersection of Lake Street & Medinah Road literally hundreds of times. It's sad that little to nothing remains of Adventureland.

I was born in 1961 and was one of the very few who never went there. I do remember asking my mom after seeing the color ads in the Sunday comics section of the newspaper but to no avail. Kiddieland was much closer so we often visited it back then.

Kiddie land was good, my dad used to pretend to work there so he could pick up cigarette butts off the men's room floor and smoke them, one day he came home, mouth all red, full of canker sores, I said dad that's what you get you might as well eat off the bathroom floor, one week later he came home wearing a different pair of pants, I said where did you get these, he said the garbage can in the men's room, he said they looked ok, but said his legs were it by, well he took them off and they were loaded with diahrrea and crabs,my God when will this end

Thanks Pete, I loved this place. There wasn’t a picture here I didn’t recognize. There’s a strong chance my mothers car was in that parking lot photo I made her take us so often.

Thanks Pete! Wonderfully nostalgic! My mom filled the station wagon with my pals and me once every summer for my birthday in the late ‘60’s. I’d forgotten some of these rides and the big shoe and mini bike ride. Great background music too.😊❤️

In the far south suburbs we would cross the border to NW Indiana and visit Saucer’s Kiddieland on Rt. 30

In 1977, I remember my dad "pretending" to work here, he'd work in an office during the day, and pick up cigarette butts and assist with hot dogs at the park on weekends, one day he found a pair of courdoroys in the men's room, he put them on, and a half hour later we were like dad something stinks, so a few hours later, dad found diahrea in the back pocket....moral to the story....leave the pants alone

I heard violence and gang activity. I went once in 76 or 77. Had no idea the place was 97% black. Had a guy approach bully and threaten me in the funhouse. I was a real young white girl there w my friend and older sister and her friend. I was about 11. My sister had went off w her friend. So me and my friend were scared especially after funhouse incident. We finally saw a white family there. We latched on to them. Stayed close to them til I found my sister. Then we got out of there. It was scary even walking around there. Found out later they were bussing in tons from the South side of Chicago.
