USS Enterprise C Analysis Review Retrospective

Ойын-сауық

This is an in-depth analysis of the USS Enterprise C ( NCC 1701-C ), the Ambassador Class starship from Star Trek First The Next Generation's "Yesterday's Enterprise." It covers:
- The production history behind the USS Enterprise C
- Filming model breakdown
- Evolution and modifications to the ship's exterior and interior
- Random tid bits
Star Trek Futures: / startrekfutures
This video is possible because of the individual work of fans around the internet. I'm basically just pulling together random articles and picture collections, then packaging them in the form of a video, so thanks to all you wacko internets out there for sharing your material.
Therapy is a video series that’s part review, part retrospective and most just stuff… like random background information, trivia, mistakes, observations, etc. Hope ya enjoy!

@Voltaic Fire Ironic because it's a one off. Some designs, like the Excelsior, are used over and over again. They changed it up by sticking something on it, like they did with the Enterprise B. But the C, which was never really seen again outside of that episode (unless it was in a battle sequence that I'm unaware of), was really good in its own right.

The best thing about the Enterprise C is that it manages to harken back to the look of the Enterprise A while being a perfect intermediary between the Excelsior and Galaxy class ships that came before and after. I think making it overly organic would have make it look more like the D, but less like the B, and since the Galaxy was supposed to be the revolutionary class, better to have the intermediate class looking backwards than simply being a slightly smaller Galaxy class. Kudos to the designer. It is a real shame that the model was destroyed. P.S. You also missed one modification. They added an excelsior rear shuttle bay upside-down and below the aft shuttlebay.

Personally, I quite like the Ambassador class design, it looks like it was built for hard work unlike the cruise ship Galaxy class. I think it's a pity they didn't use the ships in the battle scenes in DS9, instead of the ancient Miranda and Excelsior classes.

The Ambassador class was already on it's way out of the fleet by the time Wolf 359 happened, plus there weren't all that many built in the first place. It was being supplanted by the Galaxy class. There were already a BUNCH of Excelsior and Miranda class ships in the fleet and in mothball. The Dominion war was a good chance to clear out Starfleet's war closet. Just like the Klingons did with the old D7s.

That's a farily long run when youd consider what Starfleet was wearing in the Next Generation and what they had at the end of DS9.

The Ambasssdor class / Enterprise C is hands down my favorite starship design - far better looking than both the clunky, disproportionate and overly top heavy Galaxy and oddly asymmetrical and bottom-heavy Excelsior, with a very appealing and somewhat retro look reminiscent of the classic Constitution class profile. A gorgeous, perfect design in my opinion.

01:40 If we look at the designs -A through -D, it's immediately obvious that the -D is the only "organic" design. The other ships are far more geometric, and in the case of A/B rather featureless. The -C has lots of features while still looking geometric and easy to build, a "plan B" should the Galaxy class not work out. The one issue with the -C design is that it starts the "stunted nacelle growth" trend. Its warp nacelles are about the length of both the -B and -D (within 10%). That trend peaked with the Voyager, which doesn't look the "warp 9.975 max speed" part at all, and was finally abandoned with the -E, which had nacelles I always thought looked like a straight evolution of the A/B ships, as if C/D never happened.

It's...fitting, though I'm pleasantly surprised that you didn't subscribe to the camp of "Guile's Theme Goes With Everything" (cuz it doesn't). Back to the original timeline (as in BEFORE the events of "Yesterday's Enterprise" altering things dramatically), you may be right, Captains Garrett & Picard may have actually known each other when he was on the Stargazer. That, however, is something that I guess we'll never know for sure.

Great work, man, just fantastic. I enjoy all your videos. I have done a little video editing (nothing that compares to your work, but...), and also have conducted many of my own research projects, so I can appreciate how long it takes to gather, compile, organize, etc. in order to achieve the result you want to publish. People should expect to wait for high-quality work in all things, and what you create is no different. So you need not apologize for the delay, although was nice to see your preview vid. I believe if you set out to do so, you could create a stunning documentary at 60 minutes run-time or more (I don't know if brand licensing is an issue with Paramount, my understanding is that so long as it is non-commercial, they are fairly lenient with fans and fan fiction and so on due to the enormous cultural buzz which always helps their balance sheets into the billions, and they might grant a commercial doc too). Your observations of the odd details other well-known documentaries fail to mention entertains me. And it is refreshing to see Star Trek documentaries that combine fun, edgy, observational humor, and cultural cross-reference humor, with more info about the Star Trek fiction itself than the usual documentaries about Gene or the fan-culture phenomenon. Your viewers are genuinely laughing along with you, and many of us learn new things too. I think that is a special talent you have so I hope you continue to enjoy making review/retrospective/stuff videos! Two Thumbs way up!

Out of all the ships that have been named Enterprise in the series and movies I love the designs of the B and C the best. For some reason the Excelsior refit and Ambassador class just look great to me.

Loving that Italo Disco music! I'd like to imagine that was what was popular in the 2340's when the Enterprise-C was around. The C is my favorite Enterprise of all time, the last one to have a proper circular saucer instead of an oval or triangle or something, and I'm glad it didn't end up being the original design which I thought was hideous.

I actually like the spherical shape of the deflector dish and Boussard collectors. It looks like a legit transition between the Constitution refit and the Galaxy class. I imagine the Starfleet engineers trying out different shapes and configurations to maximize warp bubble efficiencies or something, and the Galaxy was a refinement of the changes made in the Ambassador class.

I never took to the Ambassador Class. It admittedly has lineages in both the A and B and ultimately leading towards D but too much of it had that whole “it’ll do” feel to it. ST has produced some absolutely stunning pieces of design work over the years (USS YEAGER ASIDE) and probably had just as much time to come up with the Nebula Class as they did the Ambassador yet the quality between them is stark.

One of the better TNG episodes giving Guinan legitimacy and leading to the Klingon civil war episodes, possibly the best overall arc of TNG with Worf's discommendation and the treason of the Klingon high council... and Gowron, one of my favorite TNG characters, establishing himself.
