I think it’s good that they prioritize in state students because UW is the only good school in Washington state so If UW is too popular among out of state students then it wouldn’t be fair for in state students. Other states have more competitive schools and so it’s more fair for them. If not everyone can get into UW but people want to attend a prestigious school in state there isn’t another option.

wow this is so helpful! thank you!! can I ask what the student environment is like? I want to go to a school where people love learning and aren’t going to crazy parties every weekend and I’m just wondering what UW is like. also, I too am mainly considering UW because of the beautiful library haha

You’re welcome! UW is by NO means a party school, so if that’s something you’re concerned about, don’t be! It’s super dead in terms of party life unless you actively seek it out and/or are involved in Greek Life (which in that case, you can find a party whenever you feel like going to one). There’s a lot of students here, so you’ll definitely find some group you vibe with, though, I’ll be honest, I haven’t made a lot of super close friends here. I recommend checking out the Student Activities Fair at the beginning of the year and looking at some RSOs (student clubs) you might be interested in joining! This school is very research-focused, so everyone here cares a lot about that. As for learning, well, it kinda depends on what major you’re in. Sometimes, with some of the really difficult STEM majors, it’s about passing rather than learning, but I don’t think that’s the students’ fault, but rather the way UW’s classes are designed (especially the prerequisite courses). Hopefully that was able to give you a bit more insight into what the school is like, and let me know if you have any more questions! Keep me updated on your college decision journey :)

so im from Miami and i fell in love with this school, but im applying for comp sci and the combination of me being out of state + comp sci being the most competitive major really scares me lmao :')

If it makes you feel better, a lot of people feel the same way, so always remember that you’re not alone! Also, there’s the possibility that you aren’t directly admitted to the Comp Sci major but are still admitted to UW, and in that case, you can always apply to the Comp Sci major again later! You got this, I believe in you! :)

Hey I love your videos and I want to go to UW too I was wondering if all majors are pretty competitive or just specific ones I really want to major in either biochemistry or engineering

Thank you so much! Welcome, future husky🥳Not all majors are competitive, but the main ones that are are definitely in the STEM field (or business). I would say the most difficult one to get into is computer science, but engineering and biology are also pretty competitive as well. Here’s a link that shows all the majors at UW and those that are capacity constraint are usually more competitive: www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/degree-overview/majors/list-of-undergraduate-majors/ Hope that helped!

hi I just got admitted to UW, but I’m out of state lol so I’m worried about the cost. Do you have any tips/ suggestions on helping pay for tuition. I didn’t really think I would be admitted since oos and my gpa was lower than average lol

  • @jessicastarsinspace2563

Hey! First of all, congratulations for getting into UW! I am also an out of state student and cost was a huge downside of attending UW. I tried applying for in-state residency within my first week of being at UW, and the requirements seemed super impossible to complete (like they expected you to work a huge amount of hours AND be a full-time student???). Anyway, I’d suggest seeking sources of income, like a job or other side hustles (but don’t prioritize it over school). Personally, I’ve been selling a lot of stuff on Mercari, and I’ve been making a considerable amount of money (obviously not a pay for tuition, but it’s a start). Other than that, you can try to look for other scholarships or contact the Office of Financial Aid and see if they have any suggestions for you! Hope that helped! Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Im a bit worried about the crime rate there that you mentioned… honestly, I’m from Canada and I don’t even live in the safest part of my own city so I don’t go out at night too. But does that part of Seattle feel fine in the day and everything? Also, are there bus stops etc nearby so I don’t have to walk far to take transit home ? I’m just thinking about a situation where I’m studying late at night and have to get home.

Hi! Your videos got me really interested in UW but I’m worried about whether my grades can get me into the university. I have a 3.5 weighted gpa and was in the badminton team for my 9th and 10th grade. I also did 2 years of community service in school (I couldn’t do anymore school community services since my school closed due to COVID) and other volunteer work outside of school (a non-profit organization and the union election committee in Myanmar to name a few). I took 3 AP classes last year where I scored a 3 in one subject and did not take the exam for the other two (my grades for all those AP classes were B and above at school). I am also currently taking 3 AP courses this year in my senior year. You mentioned that college essays are the most important part of college applications and so I’m hoping my grades won’t be the defining factor. Do you think I have a chance at getting admitted to the school?

I totally get where you’re coming from. As a first-year student at UW, I can confirm that weed-out classes suck, but that’s because they’re meant to be extremely difficult! On the bright side, everyone’s in the same boat as you, and if you find yourself struggling, everyone else probably is too! Persevere through the challenges and it’ll pay off!

It depends on what you plan on majoring in! For example, I had to take certain prerequisite classes my freshman year so I didn’t really have a choice on what classes I took. I will say, don’t overload yourself on too many classes from one area of study (e.g. don’t take all STEM classes or all English classes, etc). VLPA classes are usually fun to take if you wanted to do that your freshman year. Lmk if you have any more questions. Hope that helped!
