‘Unfortunate’: Pauline Hanson has become almost the 'face’ of anti-immigration push

Sustainable Australia Party founder William Bourke warns it is unfortunate that One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has become almost the face of the anti-immigration push.
Australia’s immigration intake hit record numbers in January, with a net increase of more than 55,000.
Migration is fuelling demand for limited housing supply as One Nation leader Pauline Hanson called for a plebiscite on immigration.
“I am pro-immigration and I think that extreme should be not dominating the debate like it does,” he told Sky News Australia.
“I think we need a rational and mature discussion about this.”

I don’t think Pauline Hanson is dishonest, far from it, I think she genuinely loves our country and has our interest at heart. I do however think her positions are at times not sufficiently researched and don’t involve a broad range of viewpoints. I’m certainly not against immigration, nor do I think Pauline is, but I agree that the people of Australia need to have the Government’s view as to why it needs to be ramped up explained to us, as well as some background into the sources of these views - after all, we wouldn’t want government policy driven by the Immigration equivalents of a Bruce Pascoe The idea of establishing yearly caps is simplistic. Immigration should be driven by amongst other things, the number of skilled migrants required to fill shortfalls in certain sectors of our society that were unable to fill internally. The idea of a plebiscite is equally unnecessary. Our government wasn’t founded on the basis that we have a referendum or plebiscite every time there is a major policy change. If the government can’t achieve bipartisan support for a major policy, then it should educate us on why it wants to do whatever it is they want to do, have it in black and white, have the opposition explain their position, then us the voter share our view with our representative in government. We the voter are quite capable of sharing our views - just see Twitter and KZread. I’m f-ing tired of money being wasted on unnecessary initiatives, and referendums / plebiscites always turn an issue into a black and white response which is never what policy is about. I’d also like to understand the real impact of recent increased immigration. I fully appreciate that I am privileged and may live in a bubble regarding issues such as housing, but there is a much bigger issue that is driving the housing problem. Equally I’ve never lost my job to an immigrant so maybe I’m blinded to the concerns of other less fortunate Australians.

For about a third of the time since roughly 2000, immigrants are the only factor in Australia's economic growth. Every rule of capitalism tells you growth is vital. Included in the arrivals are our quota of refugees and also many of the skilled trades we need. Every arrival becomes a consumer- of food, clothing, electronics, entertainment and for many, education.

What Stephanie doesn't understand is federal government is the currency issuer. 400 million spent in one place does not stop you from spending another 400 million to build a local hospital. In fact most of the population is just like Stephanie. They know federal government prints money but they don't fully understand what it means - it means money is not the issue, the real issue is the resources this money will be chasing when it's created !!

Why successive Australian Governments keep allowing the worlds misfits into this country is beyond me. The good immigrants have always been welcomed here, but those who come with hatred in their heart and often end up in prison for committing heinous crimes should be stopped before they get to the border.

William Bourke's opening lines misleading straight away. Pauline Hanson did not say halt Immigration forever as he alludes too. Stephanie (a product of Immigration already) seems to overlook the fact that the Voice referendum wasted more money and resources which could have been used for any of a number of far more important issues including Immigration levels. Of course this signifies these peoples thought patterns in pushing their own political agenda's. Unmonitored enforced Immigration will be the ruination of Australia as can be seen in Western countries world wide. Do we want to have societies like them just to support the retirement packages of nefarious politicians at the expense of the common people who actually built this country up, no matter where they were from.
