As a fellow Indian immigrant, I fully agree with you. The present Labor government is doing what was wrong with Indian government policies since independence, in terms of reservations and quotas. Meritocracy has no value, if one is indigenous or an illegal refugee, then they can put their feet up for life as we taxpayers will be footing their bills throughout their existence. There's a lot of factors. More migrants places downward pressure on wages, which is better for business owners (for example, if Aussie workers organise a strike, migrant workers can replace them which leaves unions with no bargaining power to fight for pay increases in line with inflation). Left wing governments say they want "multiculturalism" but in reality, they want to keep wealthy business owners happy with a constant supply of cheap labour, hence why the working classes always get poorer under left wing policies. This is why Gina Rinehart and other rich Australians keep getting richer under left wing governments.

New Zealand has the same problem. We wanted the doctors, surgeons and nurses, but Jacinda's woke government kept granting entry to unskilled people instead who can't speak English, so they can't follow instructions or pass their health & safety sessions to get a basic job. Then the government offered 'free' English courses because we now have thousands of unemployed migrants, and by free courses, I mean millions of our taxpayer funds were used to pay for these free courses. New Zealanders are struggling to find minimum wage jobs, so why let in thousands of unskilled workers?

We have a real problem in regional/rural areas just trying to get a plumber or electrician. I called 7 fencers to repair and install a new fence, two came, had a chat and left, two retired, two didn't return calls, one admitted he was booked out nearly 5 months in advance. Insurance companies demand that houses be kept in good repair. Considering the 69% increase in premiums you'd think they'd be able to make recommendations for tradesmen. I want local people to help with maintenance, it stimulates the local economy. A rarity the other day was an electrician who actually employed an apprentice. Hats off to him.
