UNC AFSA Presents An Evening with Douglas Murray - Free Speech in the West

It is no secret that free speech on college campuses is under attack. Students and professors alike experience pressure to either avoid or hyperfocus on controversial topics with limited room for honest and rigorous debate. What does this tell us about the future of Western civilization? Is the university no longer a marketplace of ideas, questions, argument, and discovery? Are the more difficult topics only an opportunity for complaint, or do we have something to be grateful for from our inheritance? Where do we go from here?
UNC Alumni Free Speech Alliance brought best selling author and associate editor of The Spectator, Douglas Murray to the UNC campus on February 23, 2023 to discuss this and more with UNC Chapel Hill students. Please enjoy the Zoom recording of UNC AFSA's first event.
The UNC Alumni Free Speech Alliance, Inc. is a North Carolina Corporation that has been granted designation as a nonprofit, 501(c)(3).

Douglas's whole profession is based saying things which most people find offensive. And yearly he gets dozens of invites, a nytimes best selling book and probably millions of dollars for saying things which many people don't agree with. So, it is a bit rich, coming for a person like douglas to say he or views like him are "silenced". LOL All he is complaining about is people not liking him for his views. Well, if people dislike you for your views, maybe onus should be on you to figure it out. But if he is trying to sell that he doesn't have "freedom of speech", Nah, he is just spinning it too much. If people dislike him, it doesn't mean they are silencing him. He can speak and he does speak wherever he is welcome. He is literally crying about why people are not liking him. Nobody is silencing him, people just are not interested in his views. So what should douglas do ? Get mega loudspeakers and start shouting at people who don't want to listen to him. Same goes with sam harris, he gets buckwild when people criticize him. Still, he gets hundreds of invitations and millions of dollars. But somehow he still doesn't have "freedom of speech" because people are criticizing his view.

These talks need to be happening everyday on every campus and on every news show. Thank you to Murray for shining a light on this bastardisation of facts and history; it is a deep perversion. When Murray read the actual quote by Jefferson at 26:55 it blew my mind. The fact that anyone could use that to suggest Jefferson was racist is just ridiculous (moreover, even if he was, that is to be expected in his time!). Jefferson was also, by the way, homophobic, sexist, transphobic, etc. haha The uninformed in society need to stop engaging in Presentism. Full stop!

  • @unisophia

the claim that was based on that misquoted line shows everything that’s wrong with modernity: somehow people ignore the fact that in order to count to 3, you need first to pass through 1 and 2, while each of these steps brings something new that allows progression, without which no progression would be possible. therefore, even if someone was a racist, but managed to push the discourse even just a baby step forward towards abolition, that person and his contribution should be celebrated, not denigrated. but people are looking at the past with puritane eyes, expecting revolutionary reforms that couldn’t be made at the time, because history doesn’t work this way, it doesn’t progress by leaping from point 0 to point 10. if it did, tgere would be no such thing as history. it’s like getting out of the womb as an ancient old man and right away dying from an old age, while calling it life :) lol

Watch Barbara learner specters a video on multiculturalism in Europe. She claims that she and her tribe are flooding Europe with immigrants. And that’ll be good for Europe. (it is not) In fact, these people are doing this across all white countries and only white countries. The “anti-racists” are doing this to disenfranchise Whites in the countries they built. They want Whites to be the minority. They want revenge. Remember the founding fathers were clear in 1790. Immigration act stated only free whites of good character could be naturalized citizens. A Jew, passing as white and Zionists unraveled the immigration law that protected whites in 1965 with Hert Celler Act. Over 60 years Whites have become the minority in the cities they built and will be a minority in leas than 15 years in the USA. What do you think will happen then?

Ironically Douglas is the public intellectual that he laments are shrinking in number. Would only that other American Universities had orators such as him or at the very least invited them to speak on their campus and protect him while doing so. A good start would be having their students read his books, then discuss and debate if necessary. Douglas has never shied away from a debate unlike the charlatans he quoted in his speech.

Universities are much different now than what they were 30 years ago. When the USA was a majority White country we went to the universities for solutions. On 1965 a Jew passing as White and Zionists opened the US borders to everyone unraveling the Founding Fathers’ 1790 immigration act that said only “free Whites of good character” could be naturalized as citizens. Now anyone from any country can live in the USA based on Hart-Celler Act. Add affirmative action meaning the smartest Whites were passed over for grants, scholarships & admissions to Universities, higher learning is filled with low IQ diversity. Diversity under a democratic republic means each group is fighting for resources for themselves rather than what is best for the country what is best for the majority. So racist antiWhites are not required to defend their theories. These same people are also in media & government. No longer working on truth and facts but emotion, demanding rights are restricted or eliminated. It will get worse, Whites are minorities in 9 states & the District of Columbia. In one more generation whites will be a disenfranchised minority in a country they created and built. Search “kill YT” or “all I want for Christmas is Wh ite g3n0coD” on Twitter if you want to see the future. Now, Watch Barbara Lerner Spectre’s video on why she and her people are forcing diversity only into White countries. Whites have a right to their country, to not share their inventions and to live with and protect only Whites. Whites who are the only race in human history to end legal global slavery & who built the modern world are forced to share everything they invented their countries their universities everything with NOTWhites. At the determent to their own children & people. Yet all other races have their countries protected from ethnic cleansing.

that moment you realize these historical fallacies we keep hearing about, are coming from a place of utter confusion about the world, that history happened in a different time to the present, with totally different access to information. This is made concretely hard by the fact we no longer teach objective history, but political theory, which is shoehorned into every subject and conversation.

I don't believe a single thing this man says. He makes assertions about the enemies that they haven't made and is therefore much worse than he makes his enemies out to be. Murray is a ridiculous figure and this is the main reason the people he accuses of not debating him and his cohort is because it would be complete waste of time because Murray et al know nothing except he hates his enemies and will say anything to discredit him. He and his cohort would be undertaking a debate in the worst possible bad faith. Why would anyone want to engage with that? Listening to him lie for an hour and a quarter and merely to attack his enemies if extremely painful but one must find out the detail of his drivel.

He didn't lie. Where did he lie? I saw none.
