Douglas Murray and His Continuing Fight against the "Madness of Crowds”

Recorded on November 23, 2020
A little over 18 months ago, we interviewed author and columnist Douglas Murray about his then new book The Madness of Crowds: Gender, Race and Identity. That show was one of our most-watched interviews of 2019, so we thought it was time to sit down with Douglas again and get an update on where things stand with regard to, as Douglas describes in his book, “the interpretation of the world through the lens of ‘social justice,’ ‘identity group politics’ and ‘intersectionalism’ . . . the most audacious and comprehensive effort since the end of the Cold War at creating a new ideology.” We also discuss European politics, examine Boris Johnson’s tenure as UK prime minister, and take a sobering look at American politics from the perspective of a very sharp observer.

Frankly most people think reasonably or somewhat moderately like this. We are talking about political minorities that control the media, and corporations that bend the knee to communist Chinese views for money, and thus control the perception. It's reaching a boiling point where more and more people are realizing what this is, I feel, but a lot of damage has already been done/continues to be done. Many people have left the woke movement and continue to do so in increasing numbers, after they realize it has become a pseudo-religion (and especially after their city gets burned down).

As an American living in France for several years, the only time I've been proud of Macron was right after the beheading of the school teacher by an extremist. Macron stood fast in the core beliefs of France and the EU and in the traditional values of France and the EU,. For once in these last long decades, a politian has stood up for his people instead of cowering to this madness like all the others. Macron said he would not back down on this. I pray he continues to think and act this way. He cannot let this go, even if he has no support from other politians and EU countries, he must not back down.

Jobs that will absolutely get you into the six figure bracket in a decade. I have a young immigrant kid across the street from me who is balling out working construction. His parents still can't speak English but they did well after immigrating and there kid has pandemic proof employment, a house in his early 20's, a nice truck, etc. He's doing better than some people almost twice his age nowhere near paying off school debt while justifying an $1800/month one room apartment in a declining city.

The idiotic thing about this revenge is that these individuals never suffered the things they are seeking revenge for. So who are they seeking revenge for - because it wasn't them that suffered. It's an imaginary feeling that they are sating because they have no right to seek retribution often on the behalf of people that are no longer alive and didn't bequeath their feelings as a legacy.

It is a joy to hear someone present what is so obviously true so eloquently. I'd consider a counter-argument here. Ever considered 'they' don't consider themselves as fighting against any fixed 'truth' but rather they may be coming from the point of view that the 'truth' they are being fed is a creation of systems/hierarchies/people over time and are subject not only to change but should be reset and reinvestigated in a 'progressive' manner? Its not a new thing, itsa pretty old concept going all the way back to before the Bolsheviks but here it is. It's that process is actively taught in the Universities at the undergrad level and given terms like 'post-modern' and 'progressive' and young students with very little grasps on the traditional concepts they have just been exposed to are then told to deconstruct them and subject them to dogmatic screening for acceptance into the good graces of their peers.

Whenever I listen to Douglas Murray speaking about the current state of America and the West, I am reminded of the words of author Theodore Dalrymple (a.k.a Dr. Anthony Daniels): “Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.”

Isn't is interesting that "conveniently" just when people were getting along, certain "fragile and volatile groups" have been spurred to action and the coals of discomfort have been stoked into flames of dissention? Those who believe this is happenstance are confused and those that think it is the natural order are truly lost.

Very good. I loved this. I was, and still am at age 52, a real tomboy. I have a very masculine outlook and way of thinking. Never felt comfortable being 'girly'. I 'grew up' to be bisexual and clearly physically female. Growing up now, I am horrified to think that some boyish girls will be convinced by peer groups that they are in fact trans. It's absolute nonsense. No one can be 100% sure of their sexuality and gender until much, much, MUCH older

Tomboys are simply girls who enjoy the company of boys and young men as well as the sports over dealing with gossiping drama addicted girls. They usually only have one or two female friends that can easily relate to them and that are not like the other girls. Tomboys don't all want to be boys, they simply enjoy their logistical mindset, their fun personalities.

Fantastic interview. I am not afraid of my woke family calling me horrible names after having sacrificed all for them in the name of unconditional love. Even after 35 years of marriage my husband is lost in their disrespect by keeping silent. My faith in Jesus Christ comforts me. Thank you.

Several thoughts on this interview 1. Peter Robinson's preparation for these interviews is outstanding. He actually reads the books, asks great questions and has the perfect mix between speaking/listening. 2. Douglas Murray has the magical ability to take the issues that we know are wrong but we don't have the ability to accurately articulate the problem. 3. In this Woke world of cancel culture, you have to give Murray a great deal of credit for speaking out. His harsh views on BLM, George Floyd and big tech companies takes a tremendous amount of courage. 4. The only issue I have with Douglas Murray is latest conversations are too much on LGBTQ. I want him to speak more about US race issues, biased world media and the wokeness of major corporations.

We have to start doing things ourselves and not waiting for a sort of hero, a leader, a messianic figure, whatever you want to call it, to come along and save us from ourselves. Another great interview of Peter as always! I love the Peter and Douglas conversations the most, very insightful and interesting.

Douglas Murray is a true intellect and his depth of knowledge gives him a legitimacy that not many have earned. It's not just his depth of knowledge, but also his wonderful ability to communicate, that puts him head and shoulders above many current intellectuals. I really enjoyed this! Well worth watching!
