The first scenario involving the Jag is the ford into our village (Naunton Beauchamp, Worcs.). The gentleman drove through despite 'Road Closed' sign placed at the egress from the village and Warning and depth indicated signage at the ford. He had medical issues which is why the ES were summoned. A kind fellow villager took him in to dry out and warm up. It is also deceptively dangerous in the summer when the ford is low due to slimy algae growth when just a few inches deep. A cyclist came off and broke his femur in the hot spell last year. Fortunately there was a couple with a RV parked there to help him, as the ford is about quarter mile from nearest residence. Dog-walking along there, we often warn cyclists to use the footbridge even if the ford has little depth, who sometimes retort in a rude manner. One such tosser came off after shaking head and tutting at us...oh the karma
@engineeredlifeform

Many years ago I tried crossing a weir that was in steps, that only had a couple of inches of water flowing at each step, and I slipped on the algae, got absolutely covered in the stuff, and stank.

It's a curious thing to be ignored when giving advice as 'a local', I was ignored despite saying I'd lived in my area since I was 3, when a holidaying couple asked for directions and I directed them back in the direction they'd just come. I don't know how else I could have communicated I knew what I was talking about other than saying how long I'd lived there? They completely ignored me. 🙂

@@timothydraper6626Astonishing how important it is for some people to be "right" even when they clearly are not! Why? I remember once seeing someone on a train completing a sudoko and furiously writing in numbers - many of which were clearly wrong! I remember thinking - what's the point - it's all wrong! Strange. I know a couple of people who "get things done", and think they are efficient, but badly - and don't take any notice of others who know better. I don't get that mentality at all!

Normally I'd laugh but I felt sorry for that old boy in the Jag 😢 Stones on you filming all these poor buggers though regards 😂
The first clip - that of the old guy driving into Seaford ford - baffles me. He can only have come from the village of Naunton Beauchamp, there is no such thing as "through traffic" on that stretch of road. I do not understand how he could have been unaware of the risk given how often that ford floods. Trust me on this, I've driven through (and turned back from!) that little ford plenty of times. I even tried to ride a bicycle through it once. Never again. It is unbelievably slippy! I fell off as does everyone else daft enough to try it.
Great content Ben - great that the little early 1930s Austin 7 RP saloon wasn't fazed at all !.

Clearly driving in at 40mph is the best way to hydrolock your engine. That mini is an example of that.

The depth board is clear obviously the on switch for their brains isn’t!😊

This is my weekly meditation
There are clear markers indicating the depth of the water!
Stupidity will never die...
Why would you attempt to drive a car through 3 ft of water? Ah the Austin 19 inch wheels are a good start!
Depth markers both sides, should have got to spec savers. Always good to know how much water your vehicle can swim in.
the little ramp at each end of the ford could of literally of solved the problem of the speeding idiots at rufford ford....they should just install some humps.....problem solved

The good old Austin had no problems :D
I was in a car with a friend and water was coming up the bonnet but we made it through then for miles after the engine coughed and he asked if he should stop and dry the plugs. I said it might be best to keep going and let the engine heat dry things out. Don't forget to dry off the brakes after or you won't be stopping.
What are these people thinking 🤣🤣🤣
Those depth indicators are there for a reason.
The salesman at jag needs to stop selling these as submarines
I've been Jonesin for some Flooded Fords!
WAWAW!
I once had to drive through something worse than this. Not by choice. It was at the tip of Windermere and the road was flooded. There were cars behind so I couldn’t go backwards. In front of me was a 3 series BMW which had flooded sat in the middle of the road. I prayed as I went for it. Miracle that I made it through but it left a hell of a mess.

Sorry for the question. What are the hourly rates for car repairs in the UK? I assume something like 1.2 British pounds an hour?
