@@glowiever I don't know what is there. The police carry signs and cones in the traffic cars. The normal temporary sign is white letters on a red field measuring about 1m (3 ft). But areas that often become impassable can have permanent signs that can be switched on. Some are just signs so could be overlooked, some put a gate across a road. The road obviously can't be completely closed because the nearby properties need access. So I suspect the previous junction has a sign saying 'road closed ahead, flood, access only'.
@awindup

When the police car was in the middle of the road I can 100% confirm that they "flipped the road closed signs" (ALL 4 OF THEM) look above the police car in video they are hardly subtle... to say "FLOOD +road closed ahead" instead of "ford" and that they had put out traffic cones across the carriageway a quarter of a mile each side of the Ford blocking the road off to make it safe for the recovery. There were at least two cars that went through the Ford, trying to sneak past cops, and maybe a couple more who came up to the Edge and were told to turn around. At least one car had to drive round the recovery truck putting emergency workers and police at risk... yep they are that stupid and deserve a fine.

I've been in a vehicle driving through that ford, and had the water come up the windscreen on entry, and through the doors. The idiocy of some drivers is amazing. The area I live in used to have floods in low spots in the main route in/out of town, we used to cope with this stuff every winter, often with longer flooded stretches. One thing I learned driving vehicles with drum brakes all round was the importance of drying brakes afterwards, even with disc brakes it's of no less importance to check the brakes after fording the stream, so many don't seem to do that as they drive away 😳

Drying your brakes is not going to help, your brakes warp when they are hot and suddenly get cooled (water). No amount of drying your brakes is going to undo the damage also, the brakes will dry themselves as soon as they get warm again. PS not drying your brakes is not part of the driving test.

@@joelmartin2549 Who said anything about damage? If I pressure wash my car and jet the calipers and then drive it afterwards the efficiency of the braking is greatly reduced for the first couple of applications, this isn't about damage, its about expelling the water lying between the disc and pads. The DSA and other motoring organisations all give the same advice. Although the discs are rotating, it often doesn't clear the water until the brakes are applied. If you need to stop suddenly after driving through deep water you may well find your stopping distance greatly increased.

Mercs and BMW's tend to have the air intake lower down the engine bay in order to give the bonnet a lower and more sporty looking profile. @@glowiever I don't know what is there. The police carry signs and cones in the traffic cars. The normal temporary sign is white letters on a red field measuring about 1m (3 ft). The road obviously can't be completely closed because the nearby properties need access. So I suspect the previous junction has a sign saying 'road closed ahead, flood, access only'.
