You are correct ..The speed some of them attack it at is mental water everywhere .wet electrics is the least of their problems .as you say hydrolocks and that usually ends up with bent conrods ..If not to deep slow and steady like the merc with its boot open.If deeper ,you need to know where your air intake is and create the bow wave ..Some vehicle should get through it easy ,but they don't due to the driver

The disadvantage of having an electric closing boot, you press the button and don't look back to make sure it's actually closing! Saw someone do it in a supermarket car park - they did realise before they got to the car park exit, this Merc driver must be particularly unobservant.

A good tip for anyone contemplating crossing a Ford who doesn't want to risk their car: open your drivers door, and go SLOWLY. If it doesn't get deep enough to come into your car, it Isn't deep enough to hurt anything else.

Back in the mid-70s, at a ford now long gone (Summer Road, East Molesey) on a summer's day when the water was still a few inches deep I'd stop in the middle, open the door - both if there was a passenger - and sit there until the next vehicle came along.

Pretty much every single US built truck has the filter inside an airbox at the very top of the hood, you don't worry much about hydrolock. You worry about water getting into electronics of newer vehicles and about differentials getting water in them cause they're usually mounted to frame rails. So you have to extend them and pipe them into the airbox.

@@RigepFroggit the electronics are waterproof enough to get soaked for a brief moment, as long it's not under water for a long period. I clean my enigine bay 2 times a year with a pressure washer, and no electronics ever broke down.

@@ronniedoorzon1576 Some of us aren't just dealing with a quick dip in a fording. The region I live in gets frequent tidal flooding and you sometimes have to drive for miles through a couple feet of salt water.

The "free recovery" will be to a specific garage that will insist on doing the repairs and will include the cost of the tow in the repairs.
