DEEP Water KILLS Cars Who Dare to Cross the Ford!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
MERCH: adamc3046.com
After multiple requests, I re-visited the infamous Rufford ford to capture the scenes that happen there on a daily basis. Various KZreadrs use it as their base to capture cars attempt a ford crossing, and on this particular day the ford was quite high, after a couple of days of a lot of rainfall. Resultantly, quite a few of the cars who carried even the smallest amount of speed died on the spot.

Keeping the revs high is what kills the motors. Airbox fills up with water high revs create suction water gets sucked into engine. Simply idling and burbling through at very low rpm is the best way to cross

@@edknight5888 if any water, regardless of revs, gets into the airbox the motor’s likely to stop. If it does, just take out the spark plugs and turn it over to eject the water, then back in and off you go. Simples. However, if it ingests water and stops, and you’ve got a good battery and starter motor, then they will turn the hydro-locked engine over, bending your Con rods. Then off to the engine builder you go.

@@Marcke-tb1hb airboxes have drains. They are NOT 100% sealed pre-filter. This is a design feature to allow things like…water to drain out. Notice how cars that creep then floor it suddenly ingest water even though they have already crossed? Idle/low rpm, the system will drain. You comment is absolutely false. The only way the motor will stall/hydrolock is if a large amount of water makes it past the throttle body and sits in the intake manifold waiting for the driver to floor it and ingest it. This is why low engine speed is key. It allows to air box to drain after crossing too. You can’t just floor it as soon as you cross. The rods are already bent. Remember, these clowns are flooring it. It is possible to hydrolock without bending anything.

Best vid i've seen this year, so much fun!
I think I saw a snorkel pipe air intake sticking up above the windshield on one of the LR products. A Datsun 4 x 4 I used to own had vents on the transfer and final drive units attached to pipes that extended up high on the firewall and then turned down in a sort of gooseneck in an attempt to keep water out. Also even if the water level is lower than your airbox intake, wave action at certain speeds could cause water to splash up into the airbox and kill the engine. Possibly in some poorly designed cases hitting as little as a few inches of puddle at high speed like 70 mph or 90 km/hr could cause a fatal hydrolock by throwing water up into the airbox.
I went through one of these in a 2005 royal mail Vauxhall Combo van after the most recent storm at 60mph. Went clean over the bonnet and it coughed and just carried on! Got a standing ovation from the locals. The strikes may stop us delivering but a 3 ft deep ford won't 😂

I must say it's interesting how fragile engines can be. These cars are largely breaking down due to becoming hydrolocked (i.e. the pistons can't move against the weight of the water in the cylinders - and sometimes the rods bend hence the knocking) or the water pushing the radiator in. I've seen a lot of these clips and in many cases the electrics survive and you can still use the lights and infotainment.

Have been there, done that. In my local area I got taken in by someone successfully negotiating the other way and giving me reassurances. The flooded area was long and not totally visible from the starting point. In a 5 series BMW I set off and it was a lot deeper than I had given it credit for, a lot deeper. My headlights were under water and the level was nearing the glass at my shoulder. I thought the car would float never mind stop. I did negotiate the flooded area and my carpets were not even wet afterwards (well done BMW), a 4X4 stopped at the other end of the flood and said his was going to try until he saw me and then thought better of it. Not a situation I ever intend to get into again.
@markwright3161

BMW, dry carpets, a working engine and water that deep doesn't add up. Cars are extremely buoyant when sealed. The full weight of your car and then some will have been completely displaced in less than 18 inches of water, that's true for even super heavy Teslas. Over the footprint of a 5 Series water that deep would probably weigh over 2'000kg, maybe even over 2'500kg, so you should definitely have been floating in water deeper than that where the body of the car is 12 inches below the water line. You saw the fiesta floating here at a shallower point in the ford to where the depth sign is measuring, so even with the wave peak it was probably barely 2 foot deep there. The intake of BMWs of most more recent models are all extremely low from what I understand and therefore would have been underwater even in standing water of a depth nearing door handles, nevermind the wave from pushing through. If you're recalling those details accurately, it was a miracle you got through and even more of a reason to not repeat it that you maybe even realise.

@@markwright3161 The headlights effectively going out because they were underwater, with water coming over the bonnet, and the water level approach the height of my drivers side window are vivid in my memory even now. As I said the car remained completely dry. The car floating was very much at the forefront of my mind and perhaps it did a some point though I was never conscious of that. Something I left out was there was a turn in my route that prevented me to see my exit on entering the water and on that turn was a farm gate in the Cornish hedgerow. That was the source of the water and it was flowing through there like a river, and I mean by that it had flow and it had depth, that frightened the life out of me realising I would need to pass by it. The possibility to stop, or go back given the depth I was encountering at that moment, did not seem open to me.

@@Roskellan The weight of water on the bonnet could have reduced the buoyancy, but I didn't imagine it was possible for a BMW to make it through water that deep. I'll stick by calling it a miracle myself. :)

Hydrolock. Engine buggered. These people are bonkers.🤣
i could basically watch this for hours
The passenger in the Audi was just along for the ride the look on her face she couldn’t give a damn whether the car survived or not and Adam said the water feature for the Audi only cost 5K add extra 2K and you could get yourself The dolphin water feature lol
Something about an Englishman doing some wholesome commentary of people hyrdolocking their engines makes your morning better. ☀️
The funny part is that everyone assumes Insurance will cover this but it won't. LMAO
3:02, he'll have a nice brake shudder after this - rapid cooling is bound to warp the discs.

My thoughts exactly
it depends on how high is the air intake, above the water line (good), preferably go slow

Some cars have it incredibly low, my old 1990 Celica had intake piping go to the bottom of the bumper. Almost had her die in a flooded street once. She did start after a while and was fine tho. Its was mostly becuase of a moron making a wave from opposite side tho.

Also you can see most drivers splashing the water hard, which depending on air intake position can choke even a high car. It is also important to drive on low gear with high revs. Otherwise exhaust gets clogged. Additionally automatic transmissions and 4x4 electronic hubs need oil change after being submerged in water. A lot of things to consider.
That was quite entertaining. Thank you. I think I saw at least five engines go away especially that silly Audi.
I fell in love with the Fiesta…such a beauty.
dzięki ludziom podejmującym ryzyko jest ciekawy materiał :) pozdrowienia z Polski.
I quite like these vids
wow what a good outdoor activity this is. I wish we had one of this here.
I'm not from the UK but I love Rufford Ford, but I have no idea what it looks like other than at the bridge, I don't know what the road looks like beyond either bend, or the area where the crowds were or anything, a short tour of the area would be nice.
