Spike has made some muddled shitty films but has been a millionaire since 25 Tyler makes warm films which appeal to family and kinship. No reason for Lee to attack the man who portrays the black family in a real and affectionate way Screw spike lee

There is room for both representations. Sometimes people just want levity and to laugh at themselves and each other. Other times people desire introspection and gravity. There’s a time for everything. The debate was, is, and always will be welcome. The best truce between these two will be for the (now) billionaire Tyler Perry to fund Spike Lee’s films.

Spike was right about black images on film and how they have been used to harm black people ie "Birth of a nation" 1915. it is very important maybe most important to be careful about the images we allow to represent us. Like it or not Tyler Perry's images has harmed us and disgraced us. His negative images are having a more lasting impact than all the positive images going back to Paul Robeson to Lena Horn up to Denzel and Spike.

Tyler Perry is complexly wrong about Italians and Jews not being critical of work about them. I have many Italian friends who hate what the Godfather represented. As a Jew, Seinfeld has Jewish culture in it, but did not have Jews all looking like rabbi's eating corn beef. How a black person feels about it is subjective. Jews and Italians also have many similarities.

Also... as a complete outsider who has had a similar experience. .. this kind of reminds me of the infighting in feminism between very hardcore feminists and women who embrace motherhood and stereotypically "feminine" roles (I am one). I caught a lot of flack for "embracing the oppression"... but I actually ENJOY being a wife and a mother, and while I fully support women being able to choose their path in life, I actually WANT this. I kinda see Tyler's struggle with Spike like that. Spike is going "You're representing all Black people poorly" and Tyler's going "Dude, can't I just represent MYSELF?" Tyler's not saying "this is EVERY black experience" he's saying "this is A black experience".... although when he points out that white cultures don't police ourselves the way black people do when it comes to representation in the media.... he's kind of glossing over the fact that black people have only gotten control over how they are represented within the past 50 years,so of course a there's going to be a certain expectation of responsibility some people are going to weigh on those who have that platform.

I think that "in a nutshell ", what he is trying to say that any comedian or comedic actor could have made or come close to making the money Tyler Perry has off of the Madea character & franchise. Any African American would have no problem getting all of those type projects "greenlit". Whether it was Nutty Proffesor, Big Mamma's house or any other role with a man dressed as a woman, the creator's of the aforementioned could continue to make content under those franchises but made a conscious decision to stop. Tyler Perry, like Oprah (Winfrey), has created an ATL media (tv show/film) studio empire. Different Strokes (with characters like a "Madea") for Different Folks: it is like a Menu at a Restaurant. 31 Flavors (of Ice Cream) for everybody; it depends on what you like (preferences). To each his/her own. There is room on the dinner table for both of these cats. Spike Lee's "Bamboozled" (2000) and/or Robert Townsend's "Hollywood Shuffle (1987)" both comes to my mind; on the latter, I was thinking about the realistic "Black Acting School" skit.

But, as a director, his concentrating ingredient is black. The art is the challenge and the beauty. Perry? Outside of the Madea, he has hurt black america. Madea was just stupid fun with an honest message. "Why did I get married," says it all, and did so much bad. It confused the already confused...which is us. Spike never confused us.

Tyler Perry made better movies than Spike Lee.

I never thought Tyler Perry stuff was funny or lessons within it. It's stereotypical. Spikes stuff is like The Cosby's , Different World, classy and hits upon real issues... only Spike needs to be mad at black folks, not Tyler. This is America, it's about the mighty $.I could never finish watching a Tyler Perry movie... it's obnoxious! Go figure!

Tyler Perry was known for acting like a woman, Spike Lee was known for exposing Rosie Perez breasts.
