How about updating the software on a barcode scanner in a major multinational company automated warehouse and shutting the whole site down? Luckily you have the option to make it temporary or permanent, it was a given that you always chose temporary and if it worked then go permanent. As my phone was about to burst into flames I backed out and it all booted up again! I lied through my teeth and told the warehouse manager I accidentaly caught an e stop. Oops.🥵
I used to have a tuning company and wrote my own maps. I still have a lot of old equipment. I spent a lot of time unbricking ECUs had tried mapping. If you need any help or have any questions I'm happy to help you. I'm guessing that the sw number didn't fully match if it's a Bosch edc15 or 16 it'll start 10373 but all numbers have to match and the same with the HW. Also on some French cars you have to take a separate read of the injector codes and reprogram at the end.

Let this be a cautionary tale to anyone out there thinking of buying a rolling road, a laptop, and a 512,000-mile Citroen Picasso. We've all been there, standing on the edge, credit card and spare pantaloons in hand. You, sir, have saved us.

It's a familiar set of circumstances, I agree. I bet I'm not the first.
After the excitement of the rolling road, this was almost too much, now subbed. Brought back not so fond memories of bricking a Pug 306 ECU within my first week at a dealer, only to be told they were properly sketchy anyway. A mixture of kinship, comedy, sympathy and the desire to prevent me literally pissing myself laughing.
“One pair of pants later”…….😂😂😂

I've bricked one Smart Fortwo... the owner bought a zip file of tuning files off ebay for like 6€ and wanted to try them out. None of them worked right and finally "let's try this one and if it doesn't work we'll put the stock one back" bricked it 😅
This channel is amazing! Subbed! love a high mileage hero
Great vid and channel. When you started the second flash and started rotating the laptop I couldn't look! Proper brown trouser moment.
As someone who's also mucked about on a laptop with an old PSA car, i can fully relate basically shitting myself trying to activate cruise control and then my instrument cluster having a mental breakdown, if anything went wrong, i just assumed I'd fried it and the panic is real. Please try to remap it again, perhaps with a different map or going to a remapper or something but fully understand if not after that experience

send the downloaded\backup file to a tuner\map supplier. they will then modify that file a send back, rather than sending a generic one which wont work on modern cars if the bin contain immo data.

This map is actually for a Picasso HDI with that ECU, it's just that it was written specifically for my old car, and I suspect there's something in it preventing it from being used on other cars. Either that, or the ECUs aren't actually as identical as I thought!

Feel you Dude...we've all been there.
We were all bricking it with you!
I watched this with bated breath - I've done many firmware updates to kit both personally and professionally and the sheer tension whilst you watch that progress bar is ALWAYS like this. To me, it's a poor design of software that doesn't offer to back up the existing firmware before uploading the new version, so kudos to you for making a backup prior. This also resonates personally because at the moment, my BMW is having its CAS cloned, having been identified as the source of intermittent shutdowns.
Ive been there, while trying to remap my own car. Ive successfully bricked two ecu's. Did manage to learn it, eventually :D
Panic is brown, and all the more brown when it’s not your car. What a lucky boy, your backup saved the day.

In other news, I see someone at NASA JPL has accidentally uploaded the wrong command to the Voyager 2 probe (current location: outside the Solar System). This has caused it to point away from the earth, and it will now be impossible to talk to it, until (possibly) October, when the spacecraft *might* automatically turn itself off and on again. Just saying. Dunno why that sprang to mind...

I had a similar issue years ago trying this on a 607 2.2 HDi i tried to use a 406 2.2 remap file assuming since it was the same engine and bosch ecu the maps would be the same but sadly no. Not sure if there are further subtleties in the code that forms the file to differentiate it between the two cars but just had to upload the standard file back on.

Yep. Leave that to specialists.
If you remapped it when new it probably wouldnt have reached 512k.... I'm speaking from experience! Ex Aston Martin, Prodrive and McLaren engineer speaking as well as a history of road vehicles I've tweaked. Remapping can work very well and feel fantastic to drive but the vast majority of the time there are unwanted feedback effects in the long run. A period of time where it feels fantastic and you wonder why the OEM didn't make it this way to begin with. You hear bullshit stories all the time. But the number of remaps I've seen blow turbos, gaskets, burn piston heads and valves after 50k miles is unreal. I won't type and essay here but some engines take it OK, others less so but if you want maximum mileage, leave it stock. That's the best advice I can give! One of the most robust and reliable engines I've worked on is the Toyota 1KD-FTV (3 litre diesel, used in older Hilux and Land Cruiser models). Some 30 to 40 horsepower less than equivalent sized engines from competitors like Ford and roughly the same output as the higher spec VW Amarok on only 2 litres., A full 1,000cc less than the Toyota. But from experience it will outlast all of them. Comfortably. If left alone and well maintained. That said, the Taliban and ISIS use these engines in their Hiluxes with 50 cal machine guns on the back through the hot dusty desert (you never see them using Defenders or Rangers do you?!) and I'm pretty sure they're not respecting the manufacturer's service intervals.....
If you have a good copy, that means you can try another frash 👀
